Thx for posting the zip, Stormrider :)

Now listening to AQOH.. It does indeed sound strange.. I think Barlow did a much better job at this. I hope Travel In Stygian sounds better, which I'll listen to after this. Hansi is a good singer, but I guess this is not his style.

No problem guys. Got it from the BG forum.

The first verse to Desert Rain owns my whole life.

Stormrider
03-10-2007, 01:37 PM
 ...sweet song. That riff int eh beginning is so crushing.

I'll say it again, that whole album owns everything.

Darkness
03-10-2007, 01:38 PM
The chorus doesn't compare in terms of quality to the crushing first 2 minutes... to bad.

Stormrider
03-10-2007, 01:41 PM
True. But the chorus is cool anyways. Best chorus ont he album though is Travel in Stygian by far IMO.

Darkness
03-10-2007, 01:42 PM
I'm listening to that now.

Stormrider
03-10-2007, 01:45 PM
I came to notice, that on the album, I think both voices in the chorus are Greely and not Schafer Greely. They sound VERY similiar at one point. Hmm..

Btw, I heard a couple of paryts of the orignal release of the album...and for example, in Before the Vision, theres a spoken interlude that the remaster doesn't have, haha. I had noticed that the lyrics were there ont he official site, but I never hearfd anything before the singing on the remaster. It';s cool listening to the versions. A ot rawer, the vocals especially.

Darkness
03-10-2007, 01:58 PM
I'd like to hear those... what did the spoken thing say?

Stormrider
03-10-2007, 10:23 PM
Umm, I don't know by heart. It's on the IE site. Just go int he releases section and check up the lyrics.

bought the AiA DVD yesterday. Pretty sweet performance and production. Still doesn't compare to my beloved Rage dvd however :)

Stormrider
03-11-2007, 01:13 PM
When I watch it these days, I only watch certain songs and stuff. I havn't watched it all in one shot since hte day I bought it. That'll change in the summer time though, heh.

CaptainWaits
03-11-2007, 01:34 PM
Which DVD do you prefer. BG or IE??

Stormrider
03-11-2007, 01:43 PM
Hmm, I don't know. I'de probably say IE. As I...dunno why

I guess, the BG DVD is pretty sweet and all, but Blind Guardian songs are 'average' live when you're not there. As in, you have to be at the show to really appreciate everything live IMO. Because at home on your couch, then I'de say the IE live DVD is more enoyable.

Now now, don't take the average to harshly.

what about you ?

CaptainWaits
03-11-2007, 01:47 PM
I'd have to put forth BG. I'm aware that actually live probably both of those shows would slay harder, but I like the filming, sound, footage, and song selection of the BG DVD more. Plus, I think it's done a bit better production wise. Also, I like BG in general more, so yeh :)

All aside, that Iced Earth DVD is still pretty sweet.

Stormrider
03-11-2007, 01:57 PM
Oh for sure that the production on the BG DVD is so much better. There's no doubt about that, heh. The sound on the IE DVD is awsome though.

I'm looking foward to when IE come and tour. There's going to be a live DVD from that too. But production as good as ont he BG DVD. But, tbh, I';m more anxious for new material, heh.

Darkness
03-11-2007, 02:28 PM
The IE DVD slays the BG one. The BG one was so boring, I had to turn it off half way through. IE I've seen 3 times now and love it.

Stormrider
03-11-2007, 02:37 PM

Well, it's scheduled for around Late May early June.

Yeah, I never understood why people bash on it so often.

Just because Barlow's gone?!

Stormrider
03-17-2007, 11:21 AM
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's why. They were pissed and couldn't accept the fact of a new singer ? Meh, Barlow's my favorite singer, but you don't see me bashing on TGB because he's not on it anymore.

Deth

That's probably the reason. It happens with just about every band that loses a main member really.

ArcLite

I've been listening to TGB a lot in recent weeks and love it more with every listen. I can't think of anyone I'd rather have replace Barlow than Owens. I think he's just an awesome vocalist.

Stormrider
03-17-2007, 01:00 PM
Owens voice goes really well on most of the tracks on TGB. Stuff like Declaration Day. I think his voice fits perfectly.

ArcLite
03-17-2007, 01:20 PM
Not to mention his awesome screaming. The one's in Attila, and of course my favorite from The Reckoning, "...of your devastaaaaatioooooonnnnnnnnnnn"

Stormrider
03-17-2007, 01:22 PM
Atilla's chorus is my favorite chorus on that album. Maybe not by far, because the one in Declaration Day is pretty close but still.

Though my favorite vocal moments of the whole album are probably in High Water Mark. There's 2 sections which are just downright amazing.

FatalEnergy

Mikesn

Owens is great. Declaration Day and Atilla were the first two Iced Earth songs I had ever heard, and Owens in particular got me hooked.

Grumma
03-17-2007, 09:12 PM
Attila was one of the first I heard and it remains my favourite.

The only concern I have for Owens is that in songs like Melancholy I'm not sure his voice will suit the song

Most of the time I'll do the whole Gettysburg suite and that'll be my fix for TGB.

I listened to them so much for a whole year, it's incredible.(IE I mean) Now, for the past year or so, I havn't been listening to them as religously as I used to. No need to really, I wouldn't want to burn them out now would I ?

Darkness

Stormrider
03-18-2007, 08:24 PM
Yes, that's for sure. I definitely need more material, and I'm pretty sure that's the case with a lot of the regs in this thread, heh. I'll put myself in an Iced Earth mood a bit before it's released, heh.

Though, new material or not, I don't need to listen to my favorite banbd every day, just because they're my favorite band. It would just come off as force listens these days if that's what I did.

Darkness
03-18-2007, 08:27 PM
Yeah, I don't listen to Tool every day. Sometimes I don't for a whole week.

Stormrider
03-18-2007, 08:31 PM

The only "gay" part of Owens singing is in the beginning of Hold at All Costs, probably because the lyrics suck there.

Other than that he's just fine.

The Fate Of This Nation
In The Balance It Will Hang
Consumed With The Pain
The Courage Of The Blue
The Valor Of The Grey
So Very Sad But True
Consumed With The Pain

The Slaughter Now Ensues
Bodies Fall Like Rain
They Valiantly Pursue
Yet Doomed To Remain
At The Double Quick They Charge
The Canister Rips Through Them
To The Mouth Of Hell They March
Glory, The Only Gain

?We?re Almost There My Boys
I?ve Never Served With Finer
We Must Push Forward Boys
And Bayonet The Yankee Tyrants
To The Copse Of Trees We Charge

And When They Turn And Run
An Open Road Leads Us To Freedom?

A day with 2 pieces of IE news!!! They are opening for Heaven and Hell in the UK. Unfortunately Lamb of God has the support slot, playing after IE. But still, HaH and IE in one night would be amazing.

And second,

"I regret to inform you that Tim Mills [guitar] will not be able to continue working with the band. As you may know, Tim is the founder of Bare Knuckle Pickups and that is his main business. He's had recent employee problems and has now found that his main worker, his right-hand man as it were, is terminally ill with cancer. So, he will not be able to do the record and tours that we had planned on. I knew it was risky bringing someone in that had an established business, I know exactly how hard it can be to be involved in multiple businesses, but we both felt that we'd be able to pull it off. Of course him living in the U.K. and the band living in the States makes things more challenging as well, but these events were completely unforeseen. I really feel for him and his employee and wish them the best through this difficult time.

"I know this lineup situation has become a familiar issue with ICED EARTH but please realize that it will have little or no effect at all on our plans, recording, touring and otherwise. The core is solid, focused and ready to kick some serious ***.
As has been the case since the first ICED EARTH CD I have played every rhythm and lead, every clean and acoustic guitar track that you've heard, with exception of the solos, and I even did a few of those in the old days. This will not cause any delay of the recording or any shows to be canceled so don't worry about a thing, we're right on track as planned.

"Tim played the guitar solos on the re-recording of the 'Something Wicked' trilogy, that appears on the upcoming 'Overture of the Wicked' four-song single that's due to be released in early June. Unfortunately, this news just came up and he's really sorry, as am I, that he won't be able to continue on with us. Also, I think there is some confusion as to what 'Overture of the Wicked' consists of. First, the song 'Ten Thousand Strong' is the single track, and it will appear on 'Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Part 1)', albeit a bit different than the single version. Second, the 'Something Wicked' trilogy that is comprised of the songs 'Prophecy', 'Birth of the Wicked', and 'The Coming Curse' has been completely rerecorded. From the ground up this is a more vicious and more atmospheric version of the epic piece. I played all of the guitar tracks with a baritone guitar and Brent [Smedley, drums] and I are locked up like a machine gun with the double kicks following many of the detailed picking patterns. This makes for a more intense- and wicked-sounding rhythm section. All of the vocals have been redone, obviously by Tim Owens, who did a masterful job at retaining the passion and honesty of the original, and still put his stamp on it and made it his own. We also put in some teaser atmospheric things that will give you a hint of things to come on Part 1. But just a hint... we don't want to spoil any surprises.

"For those of you that aren't familiar with the old version or the 'Something Wicked' story at all, you should check it out. The original trilogy is just an overview of the story that begins 12,000 years ago and leads us to modern day. You should look at the trilogy as an introduction to this whole epic. What is coming next in the two parts is a far more in depth look into this very tragic, heavy and apocalyptic sci-fi/fantasy story.

"I can't give anymore away at the moment, but keep checking the IE site for more updates.

"Further announcements will be made in regard to the guitar player spot in the very near future."

Have you got a link saying IE are supporting H&H?

I'm not really a big Sabbath fan, but I'm a big enough IE fan to see them support. Seeing them at Wacken as well. Just to rub it in.

I wonder if Jon will go back to the style of riffs that get IE lambasted (gallops in every other riff, etc), or if he will continue down the path away from that, like on TGB. Either way will be very awesome.

Stormrider
03-29-2007, 12:56 PM
Yeah. I'm not too sure what to expect tbh. I'm not convinced it'll be like TGB, since that's a special album anyways...but at the same time, I don't know if we'll have another Night of the Stormrider in our hands as far as riffs go, but I'm sure it'll be awsome either way.

So apparently Barlow is making a comeback?

The new edition of the magazine Rock German Hard, made an interview with Matthew recently Barlow (former-vocalist of the Iced Earth), and in this interview it was confirmed that Matthew Barlow is coming back to the metal, as vocalista of band PYRAMAZE.

Many years if had passed since that Matthew Barlow left the Iced Earth and Matthew never in showed its point of view to them. For Rock Hard it made an exception. Optimum E is: it is not only speaking of new, but also singing! Surprising total, it joined itself to the Danish group of prog-metal Pyramaze.

I entered in contact with Matthew ace 7 of the morning. in Delaware, where it deferred payment now with its wife and its son of one year and way of age and working as policeman. Matthew is very calm and chooses the words sabiamente.

ROCK HARD: Matthew, the one that point you, for the first time, had the feeling of that being the vocal one of the Iced Earth it was not what you wanted for its future?

MATTHEW: Iced Earth was not the problem. Not even the 11 of September was the reason for my decision, but a signal, the “drop d´água”. It was at a time where I thought about what making with my life. I find that all have a period of training in the life where they think about everything. At this time I had 31 years, I was married, but he did not have financial security. The years in the Iced Earth had been excellent. The turnęs and the experiences with the fans perpetual go to be a positive memory. But it did not have firmness in the career with the Iced Earth, I really I did not have financial security, because I never had a parallel project, as the Jon, where I could make money. I had a long colloquy with my brother, who also work as policeman, and I I was certain that to become me a police age what I wanted. All that knows me can say, this is not so improper pra me. I never infringed the law, I not even I was fined by speed excess. I was never imprisoned. Others, that knew only the side cabeludo rock musician mine, perhaps had not understood. But the majority of the metal fans is very respectful. The only crime of them either to perhaps smoke one established one.
It was at the time to sign the contract for “The Glorious Burden”, when I hesitated and counted the Jon as I imagined my future. This contract would more moor me to the Iced Earth per many years. Jon and I decide that I would make the vocal ones of the “The Glorious Burden” and I would make turnę with the band, there later I I would leave. When the vocal ones had been ready, Jon one more time talked with me, and said that she was not happy with my work. Moreover, Tim Owens had left the Judas Priest and I perceived quickly what the Jon had determined with Tim.
Six months later I was for the policy academy. To leave the Iced Earth was very emotive, because Jon and I had passed for many together things. It was not easy for none of us.

ROCK HARD: It seems then that it did not have much colloquy between you and Jon. He himself finished not very saying legal things, as for example that you never if it strengtove 100% for the Iced Earth.

MATTHEW: I am certain of that it said this soon after the separation, when we are with the very strong emotions. I do not blame it. Since then in them we find some times and he does not have nothing of bad between people. I until talked with Tim Owens some times. It loves being in the Iced Earth, I love my I work, and all are happy.

ROCK HARD: As policeman, you it has a well dangerous work. How it was the reaction of its wife with its decision?

MATTHEW: Ah yes, it was worried. Especially when I was in the patrol. But we policemen well are trained. Beyond, my area is not so dangerous, exactly having places that are better you to prevent. I am not running behind criminals the time all, I I try to help the people. It is clearly that, if necessary, I would enter in one fight, but for most important me is to help the young in my area and to give they a perspective.
With certainty it has moments where I feel homesickness to be in palco, because he does not have place some where you he can feel as much adrenalin. But what I more feel lack is of being creative. It was therefore that I was interested myself in the invitation of Michael, of the PYRAMAZE. It wants to record music of high quality, but on the other hand, he does not want to be in turnę for months. I had many offers of bands, but I do not want to be in turnę for an eternity. Some festivals and shows in clubs are perfect and I can keep my job.

He also had a small interview with Michael Kammeyer of the Pyramaze in the magazine. They confer below:

ROCK HARD: Michael, as you obtained that a new and almost unknown band obtained a singer as Matthew Barlow, who already had given up the musical career?

MICHAEL: , We have some experience with American musicians well, because our tecladista lode of U.S.A., and vocal the previous one also was of there. I admit: the idea of Matthew to enter in the Pyramaze was absurd. But later that I fired Lance (former-vocalista), I had time to think regarding the substitute. My favourite person or thing in absolute was Matthew Barlow, because I am a great fan of Iced Earth, since whom vi the band in the Wacken festival. E I knew that Matthew I had a job, as well as the remaining portion of the Pyramaze, and that it does not want to know of turnęs long. Then I decided to call it, because I did not have nothing to lose. The maximum that would happen was it to say not.

ROCK HARD: But vocal the previous one sings well different of Matthew.

MICHAEL: When we made our as record, I asked for Lance to sing strong and aggressive more. I was tired of vocal clean and high tones. I want to say, we make music for we ourselves, and was clearly pra me, that ours third record would be powerful and aggressive.

ROCK HARD: You it will have to change the style to compose to incase itself to the style of the voice of Matthew?

MICHAEL: I find that not, therefore Matthew is a professional, being able to sing any sound and to give a personal touch. We do not want to seem the Iced Earth, and nobody wait that obtain. We are the Pyramaze and our new singer is Matthew Barlow, is this.

The next record to the Pyramaze will leave in the spring of 2008. Later, the band will make some shows in festivals. Before they will have that to find a new recorder, what it will not be problem, considering the new formation.

Well, he explains about the touring factor...But damn :(

I'll check out that album though :p ...It will still be cool to hear something new with Barlow on vocals.

Lance King is a good singer, but his replacement rapes the **** out of him. Can't wait to hear it.

Well a short version of the news is also on wikipedia ^^ Anyway, I hadn't heard of Pyramaze before, but I have become very curious now :P But I'm even more anxious to hear Tim's performance on the new IE stuff!!

Well then my question wasn't directed to you, and thus didn't require an answer from you. :D

So that's how you have the most posts in the thread... you reply to things that aren't directed to you.

Eh, how was I supposed to know it wasn't to me  ?

Don't you question my posting in this thread !

And yeah, I have a lot of posts in here. I had a tendency of replying to everything I could in here. 90% of the stuff was IE related though.

:p

Yeah, I remember those too. If you ever noticed, a couple of months after, I went to edit all my spelling mistakes and delete some of my tripleposts and stuff.

Darkness: When did you become so mean ?:(

Besides, I have a gf which I see very often. /own

Darkness and I have always hated each other. I think it has something to do with me burning his house down.

I remember trying to go back and post your first post to lol at you but you edited them. Proves just how little of a life you have.

I donno man... I seriously apologize.

There's no way in hell Deth has more of a life then anyone.

Edit: Except for when he burnt my house down. That proved he had a wild side.

I remember the good old days in the Opeth thread which was basically just us insulting each other for pages on end.

Good times.

I'll readily admit I have no life btw.
