I am playing the Toccata Op 7 by Robert Schumann, and in that peice it constantly requires you to play 9th and 10th chords, now i dont have a problem reaching them its just when im done playing the piece my right wrist always hurts on the right side. What would be causing this, and what is a possible way to stop this from happening?

Most likely it's incorrect technique. I'm not sure what advice I can give besides, maybe seeing a doctor.

That's a likely possibility. It might also be that you're not used to playing chords that require you to stretch that far that often. I'd follow Speedy Fingers' advice first though, you don't want to wait so long to get used to it that you hurt yourself.

Someone i know online suggested that what most pianists are told to do is flatten their hands (Horowitz style). Ive tried that and the pain has lessened, although I still have it some, i think thats just because im still recovering from what made it this way in the first place.

What you'll want to do is go to a chiropractor. Get him to look at your wrist. He'll probably click it (at least what I call the little gadget he uses). My wrist was killing me for weeks, got my chiropractor to check it out, and no more pain.

one other thing i did notice, toccata in italian means to touch, the idea is to touch the keyboard i wasnt doing that lol. i was being too stiff.
