So I thought there hasn't been much tennis discussion lately and the U.S. Open is right around the corner so I thought 'why not start a thread?' Any way who are you picks to win. I'm going with who seem to be playing the strongest so, Federer and Clijsters.

Where'd all the tennis people go? :upset:

Sorry for double posting but...

If Davenport makes it to the final, she'll get the number 1 seed overall and for the U.S. Open.

Federer is number 1 in the men's for those who don't know.

Get This now. Clijsters wants to retire in two years. She'll only be 24! Must be nice.

My top 5 for each are:
Federer
Nadal
Blake
Roddick
Hewitt

---------------------

Clijsters
Davenport
Henin-Hardin
Mauresmo
Sharapova

IMO, the men's singles are going to be really closely contested by only 2. the two being federer and roddick. lets face it, heweitt is good. but hes inconsistent. nadal is one for the future, but hard courts arent his strengths. :thumb:

So, Davenport took the #1 seed back yesterday night, but no real surprise for me there. It's funny how Sharapova didn't even get to play as the #1 seed.

sharapova someday will get it back IMO. shes still so young, unless she goes on the decline now

Yeah, I sort of don't think that she won't get back to number 1. The only thing that might get in her way is major injury IMO. At the same thing you have to think there are also alot more up-and-comers now who playing well that will definatly challenge Sharapova, Davenport, Mauresmo, ect. Right now I think its Clijsters turn to be #1 and if she gets it, she'll probably have it for a while, unless another injury happens.

On the mens side, my guess is that it is going to be a tight race for #1 between Federer and Nadal. I also believe that Blake is coming back and going to challenge them both, even though he has been out of the spotlight for some time.

So to sum up, IMO it looks like Federer and Clijsters are going to be both #1 in their respective standings for awhile now.

Nadal?

that man is overated, he has only played in two grand slams, one of which he did win, but, remember he got knocked out early in london, i give nadal two rounds, if that in this tournament.

he is a natural claw courter, very long, low stroke for a slow surface, this is the u.s open, hard courts, not clay.

Federer is just too dominating. I think he will win the US Open. What ever happened to Roddick? He was suppost to be the next great American player. He's just too overrated. He hasn't been able to beat Federer in the last few matches, and he's only won 1 major title.

I was watching the Federer match on USA network, and man those announcers can't praise him enough. Still good match though. He went up 5-0 in the first set and took it 6-1. Now they've got a different match on. :upset:

Federer won 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, but I guess thats a big surprise. The match was only about 1 hour.

Thats the way I feel about Sharapova, but everyones like she was #1, blah blah blah. I just can't stand her.

On the topic of Nadal, I don't think he's over rated, I just think he gets a little too much praise.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was looking at both brackets and I think its going to be:
MENS:
Federer over Hewitt
Blake over Gasquet

Federer over Blake

WOMENS:
Clijsters over Mirza (yes I'm picking Mirza to beat Sharapova)
Davenport over Henin-Hardene

Clijsters over Davenport

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

So anybody see any the Blake/Nadal, Sharapova/Mirza, or Hewitt/Dent matches? I didn't get to see the Blake/Nadal match because I was working. :upset:

Federer. He is so advanced comapred--sorry Nadal fans--to the rest of the tour, it's not even funny. 69-3 this year. He might just be more advanced than Sampras at this stage of his career. Roddick is so mediocre and fukking overated! All he has is a hard serve, a half-***, two-handed backhand, and an alright forehand.
It must be nice to be an average tennis player and have Lexus as a sponsor!!

For the womans, probably a hot russian. Don't really care about girl's tennis. Too slow!

I'm thinking that it'll be the best final since Agassi vs. Sampras a few years ago.

I think tonight's match is going to be viewed as a passing of the tourch really.

This is an incredible match. Some of the best tennis I have ever seen. Federer won the 1st set, 6-3, then Agassi won 6-2, and he's ahead 3-2 in the third set. Some match. Incredible.

He's up 4-2 now.

Federer won, but what an effort from Agassi. He played amazing, but still came up short. He really dominated the 2nd set, and he was dominating the 3rd set, up 4-2, but then you could see his back was flaring up, as he could barely move. I guess old age finally got the best of him. Great match though.
