I've just bought an Xbox and I've been playing this game a lot lately, and I found something I thought I'd share with you all.

Though it is by no means the best game I've ever played, it is definately one of the most fun and I'll tell you why. For those of you who don't know, Jedi Academy is part of a long-running series of FPS games that started of as Dark Forces and is now called Jedi Knight. I kind of missed out on the games in-between the first one and Jedi Academy, but this game involves the regualr use of a lightsaber which switches the game to 3rd person view. So I'd describe this game as Action/Adventure, if I had to pidgeonhole it.

Up until about 2 weeks ago I was a regualr PS2 user and even though I had a lot of action games, there weren't many that really did it for me. Jack & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank and Kingdom Hearts were all fun games but there was no escaping the fact that they were kid's games, really. (I'm 19, by the way.) Medal of Honor: Frontline, Conflict: Desert Storm and Splinter Cell were all very realistic in terms of attention to detail but they took themselves way too serioulsy, as did the Metal Gear games. The GTA series threw a whole world in your face that would take a very long time to get everything from. Don't get me wrong, they're all fantastic games and some of them I stuck at and even finished. But they were all missing something, I guess.

And I've now realised what it was, although I can't really give it a name, I can only describe it. Firstly, Jedi Academy is Star Wars! Stay with me here- a fictional universe people actually care about, extravagant creatures and races that were always just good/evil/comic/terrifying enough to do the job they were designed for, and worlds that are near enough to real environments to give us something to relate to, but not so real that we'd dismiss it as a parody of any real-life society. Secondly, it's fun! No sneaking around trying to get Stealth Kills, no puzzles you have to think too hard about and also it's one of the most hands-on approach to using the lightsaber I have ever seen in a game which can only be a good thing, really. Finally, there's a choice in what levels you actually play on to stop the game seeming too linear, but not so much choice that you wander around hopelessy lost and confused. And then there's the fact that it's broken down into levels in the first place; it's no bad thing that you can do one section and be able to say: "Right, I've done that bit now, let's stop and come back to it later." Other games do that, of course, but more subtley and I often find myself being drawn into the next section if it starts straight away.

The game isn't perfect. I think the presentation of the game was a bit rushed, for a start. And the fact that you could customise the appearance and lightsaber of the lead character would be much more rewarding if what you chose actually made a difference to the game. Also, though I don't claim to know how the Star Wars saga proceeds after the events of Return Of The Jedi, (the game is set 10 years after that,) the inclusion of the Imperial Remnant to me just seems like a crap excuse to put Stormtroopers in the game. But the difference between this and many other games I have owned or played is that I've actually really enjoyed it. That makes up for its imperfections.

I'm not recommending this particular game; how you feel about action games or Star Wars is entirely up to you. What I'm saying is that this title reminded me why I got into games in the first place: Because they're fun!

Yeah, I think you made a good point about this game. It's not the best, and it's not really in-depth with the storyline or anything but it is a fun game. It doesn't make you think so hard about a certain puzzle to the point of frustration. And it is a really easy game to pick up and play. My brother (just turned 7) plays this game all the time and has no problem with it; however, most of the games my brother plays I have to help him with, and it gets annoying after a while.

In all, the only things that could be fixed for this game is the graphics aren't great (actually there horrible) and they could have let you customize your character a little better....

I like that point about your brother! I think the golden rule is anything my sister can play is an easily accessible game. But then again, she loves Star Wars. Before I got my Xbox, I couldn't keep her off Battlefront.

I loved this game. I played it twice and beat it on both light on dark. Favorite multiplayer character is Boba Fett, and the fact that he can have a light saber is pretty sweet. Glad to see other people like this game.

I liked it alot, but I have to say I liked Jedi Outcast much more. I'm not sure why, I just had much more fun with Jedi Outcast than with Academy. Both are great though.

I'm hoping the next one will have much better graphics, then it'd be the best star wars game!

dual lightsabers > all

the force powers are **** cool, espically grip...but some are too powerful and can hurt the gameplay. i defeated a lot of jedis in the game with grip, the opponets are very weak against it. if they dont counter, throw them in some pit .. if they do they will get stunned for sometime, where you can kill em with a speed combo or just cut them up

yea i used the grip a lot on the last boss....

i love how you can actually grip up people, move them over ledges, and just let go

Can you? Not done that one yet. My favourite force power is Speed; there's nothing like dashing at an opponent when he's throwing his lightsaber at you and cutting hm to pieces when whe's completely defenceless! Yes, "That's Not The Jedi Way," but that's his problem. He shouldn't have thrown his weapon at you, should he?!

It's one of my all time favorite games. Incredibly fun and deep.

you think speed is un-jedi...try grip. you can toss anyone around, throw reborns into pools of lava...etc...without even using your lightsaber! then if they counter it , they get stunned for a while and you can rush up and own them. the best part is that it doesnt use that much force power and its harder to counter then the standard push / pull

I think thats why most people like the game: it's really easy to figure out, and is really fun, so you can feel like your actually an awesome jedi with cool powers. However in other games (some of them fun, some not) they make it so you actually have to work at it...which gets you frustrated and then you hate the game (but for some reason I usually keep playing it).

i still prefer the original one though, the game was far better. the graphics suck compared to now..but it owns, i hope they remake it

Jedi Academy had a pretty lame single player, the online play is bloody awesome though. :)

If anybody wants to have a duel post here and we can head over to a good server.

Not on XBL unforntunately otherwise I'd gladly duel you. Still, I suck at online games, so it's probably for the best.
