Wallmart slaps an unsurprising price-tag on the 360...

Unconfirmed reports stemming from Walmart employees have today suggested a North American retail price for the Xbox 360 and its launch titles, allegedly set to arrive in shop stores on November 4th.

Naturally a smidgeon of sceptism should be maintained until Microsoft makes an official announcement, however the $299.99 price point hardly appears to be out of the bounds of possibility and suggests a pound/dollar equation when Microsoft's next-gen format is launched upon UK shores later in the month. As widely believed games appear to be slightly more expensive then many would hope with the likes of Perfect Dark Zero and Project Gotham Racing 3 marked at $59.99.

We'll have further information soon.

You're a bit behind on the news there buddy.

Today at the Leipzig Gaming Convention in Germany, Microsoft announced that their latest Xbox360 console will be released in two models. "Xbox 360 Core System" directed at the mainstream audience and the premium "Xbox360" aimed at their hardcore fanbase. The consoles will be sold at a price of $299 and $399, respectively.

"The Xbox360 Core System" will not include the much anticipated 20GB hard disk drive. Instead the $299 core system owners will receive a wired controller (sorry, no wireless here), a detachable faceplate, standard A/V cables and Xbox Live Silver membership.

"The Xbox360" or lets call it the premium $399 version of the new Xbox will include the 20GB hard disk as a standard and bundles with a wireless controller. Other luxuries of owning this pricey Xbox are getting a limited time offer remote control, Wireless Xbox Live headset, High-Definition A/V cables, an Ethernet cable, detachable faceplate and Xbox Live Silver membership.

Speaking with the press, corporate vice president, Peter Moore emphasised that the Xbox360 console is slated for a simultaneous release in North America, Europe and Japan.

Here is a list of Xbox360 accessories that can be purchased seperately at the time of launch. The owners of the $299 Core system can always upgrade their Xbox360 console whenever they want using the following accessories.

* Face Plate ($19.99 / 19.99 Euros / 14.99 pounds)
* 20GB Hard Drive ($99.99 / 99.99 Euros / 69.99 pounds)

That price seems a bit cheap compared to the prices of their current system when it came out. It was like, what, $600?

Very doubtful, are you sure you're not thinking in terms of Australian dollars, New Zealand dollars or some other currency?
