I recorded many songs using a regular mic(nothing expensive) and i just put it on top of my bass amp and record it using cool edit pro 2.0
I mostly now use Fruity Loops to create drums for my songs
the problem is that sometimes my recordings sound like they are not combined together with the drums and they sound like they are not connected to the drums. its weird and hard to explain but i think its a mixing problem. Sometimes it works though but i don't understand why(like in the song "rhcp improv").

Sometimes I have the song in my hend and i can hear it in my head and i know how i want it to come up, so i have the bassline i made and i create the drum line that i want and when i put it all together it doesn't sound like I had it in my head even though when i seperate the drums and the bass, each sound exactly like it was in my head. in other words it loses the energy of the song and it made it seem like the drums aren't "connected" to the bass, and so i think its a mixing problem. Also when i record everything sound fine when i'm playing it but then in the recording it doesn't come up well.

Again its hard to explain but is there any information that would be helpful for me? any mixing tips, is there a guideline for mixing?, or just general tips that would help my recording quality?

there are my songs:

ok, so you record your bass with cool edit, and do your drums with frooty loops. How do you combine the two?

no no
i know how to put them together
but when i do that, sometimes it doesn't sound right

that's not why i asked, there are a couple of ways to do it, and the one you are using might be causing latency between the two programs. does cool edit have sync options?

i don't think its latency because the tempo is fine and the bass comes up when i want it to come
i think it has to do with the mixing and the levels but i don't know how i need to set them up i'm not sure though if i'm right

Are you starting w/ drums?

That's my suggestion. Start with drums and play along to the drum track. That'll help you feel whatever groove you can get the drums to work up and also let you work more naturally than with a simple click track.

In terms of mixing, that's a stylistic thing as well, so please provide more info.
