I'm just wondering if that's safe to do... it feels comfortable doing it, so... just wondering if anyone know about doing something like this, lol.

I've never really heard anyone professionally try to do that. It does sound quite interesting tho. I'm pretty sure that continuously doing that will hurt your vocal chords tho. Screaming normally will not hurt you, as long as you do it loud, the way your voice naturally intends it. Remember this tho. One of the worst things you can do to your voice is whispering, so just becuase it feels ok, doesn't mean it is :)

Okay, thanks. Yeah, it most likely will hurt my vocal chords. Weird thing is, that's actually a lot less painful (it isn't) for me than screaming low (which only hurts after about 5-10 minutes and comes easier)... so... that's the only reason I asked.
^_^
And whispering's bad for your voice?

yeah, it is. crazy huh? the reason the screaming hurts you after a while is probably because you are doing it with your throat closed. when you warm up, just think about opening your throat and screaming loudly, but not so loudly that it hurts, try it and you'll see what i mean.

Okay, thanks, I'll try that.
And I still don't get how whispering is bad for your voice...
If it really was, you'd think everyone would've lost their voice by now, wouldn't you?

yeah, it's not bad for the general public, because the general public aren't singers. The more you whisper, the faster you will lose your range while you age..... I read this in a vocal training book, so i guess it must be true.... unless the author was an idiot.
Rats!

I used to do that and my voice got real ****ed up and I didn't even hold it that long. Don't do it.

Is that you trying to do that? I have to ask...why would you want to sound like that?

I wasn't actually trying to do that. I was practicing my inhale scream and that just came out.
EDIT: And thanks for the advice, everyone.

How exactly did your voice get messed up? Because I just recently learned how to do both low and high pitched inhale screams.. and it doesn't hurt at all. I've only been doing them for 2 days, but if I knew for sure that they would mess up my voice, I wouldn't do them anymore..
Plus, if Cradle of Filth started in 1989, and assuming he has been doing the inhale scream since then or before then, how can he still do them?

How do you know he inhales while he screams? I'm not a fan, but I do listen to alot of metal, I also produce and engineer metal. I've never heard ANYONE do that. I can't see why you would, if you practice you can get any tone you want while exhaling...... like your supposed to.

No, you can't get any tone from exhaling. Don't get me wrong, I prefer singing clean or with rasp over anything else. :) But, I also love different kinds of screams. Doing low inhale screams gives a competely different tone than exhaling, alot of bands seem to do it (you can sort of tell by the airy quality of it), and you can hold it out a LONG time. Doing the higher pitched ones makes your voice much higher. If I do a high pitched inhale scream, it sounds incredibly crazy and does not have a similar tone to any other scream, and it's waaay higher than the highest falsetto note I can hit as well (which is a very high A).
I wouldn't even do the inhale screams often, I just like knowing that I can do a variety of things with my voice. But anyway, I'm 99% sure he's inhaling because you can tell by the tone of it. It has an airy sort of effect, something you can only really understand if you can replicate it. I didn't understand a thing about screams, or singing for that matter, until I learned to replicate it--and I learned the terms, the techniques, and how it was actually done. Besides, there's no way a falsetto voice can go THAT high without going inward.
Listen to this.

It's the 6 different screams I can do.. and pretty much the only types I have ever heard. Some of them might sound the same but are done differently. The low pitched and higher piched inward one could qualify as the "same" scream, but those are even done differently. Took me a bit of work to figure out each. The two falsetto ones could also be considered the same, but the second one (4th in the list overall) sounds completely different because the "real" falsetto note is shining through. The first falsetto one and the one using the tongue sound similar, but are each using a different rasp. :thumb:
Sorry.. I'm such a music/guitar/vocal/bass/drum freak... :upset: haha.

ok, it does sound different. I guarantee I could do all of that without inhaling tho. You guys would be so surprised what some good reverb stacking can do for the "airy" quality in a vocal.

Thanks for the reassurance.. I hope it's safe because I like doing them.
Although I'll probably lose it's charm after a week or so of doing them  I just figured them out, so I'm havin fun with it for now. :) Just like when I first learned falsetto screams... I was so excited, haha.
I did "research" it a bit though. If you make the "clicking" sound with your false cords, like hit your lowest note... then try to go lower. You're not really using your cords, it's just.. low, false cord clicking. Well, the lower inward screams kind of sound like that. Also, Dani Filth does alot of the exhale false cord stuff I was talking about, like in the background he'll have his own backup vocals doing that for a lower, ambient effect... while he also does inward lower stuff. The two seem to go hand in hand.
Also, if I do an exhale falsetto note, then keeping my throat the same and inhale, what comes out is the really high pitched inhale scream. I can breathe in and out real fast, outwardly falsetto and inwardly high pitched crap. Haha. I also noticed that I have to breathe in quite hard to get the same raspy effect that Dani Filth does, and to get volume too.. otherwise it's really quiet.

Alright then. Let's hear you hit pitches that high with rasp, and hold out a guttoral scream for at least 30 seconds.

I never saw any appeal.
I had to stick it in the "why??" pile along with Scouse House and 3/4 of Punk....
