This one is fairly subjective. I would want to run the subs off the mains, but for it work the best, you'd need a crossover and another amp in order to drive the sub.

Explaination:
The main out's on the mixer are going to have everything you want your crowd to hear, so that would be the source of choice.

The signal would then go to the crossover, where you could split it a number of ways, but you'd want it to be mid/high in your two mains, then the low output would drive your sub-amp.

You can set the mix of sub/mains really easily, just hook up a cd player to your mixer and play some really well produced music, some U2, or something like that. Then adjust the sub level until that sounds good. Then your music will sound it's best.

However, if a crossover and/or another amp is beyond you, I'd try to see if you can run the mains off one side of the mains amp, and the sub off the other side, read the manuals.

You can buy powered sub boxes. Which are completely self contained subs that are more than happy receive a full range audio signal, they've no need for an external crossover.

So you could just run one of these off perhaps a spare Aux output, or even directally in parrallel with the mains.

To run a sub the tradional way you would need a crossover. And do what diesel said above.
I have seen some EQ units around that have their own dedicated sub output. Which which function similarly as using a crossover, but just with obviously less versatility.

The simplest method would be to go with a powered sub.

Although another viable option would be to buy one of those EQs that have the dedicated sub-ouputs. Run it off the main outputs of your mixer, and run a poweramp (bridged) for a sub off this.

The powered sub or a crossover is the best method ..but a BBE maximizer or a peavey kosmose (sp*)will also work ... my bass bins run through a crossover then off of a giant (3000watt) QSC amp bridged and the bins are daisy chained..very low and loud..
