Hey. After I criticized the member beyondtheblueprint for calling Blink182 hardcore punk, he went and voted against all of my reviews on sputnik. I used to have a perfect 1.0 rating and now it's a 7.1. It would mean a lot to me if you guys go to my page and vote up my songs to return them where they should be. I don't think an idiot like this guy should be allowed to romp around the forums as much as he pleases.

If anybody wants to contest that, look no further than these lines: “The more I make myself available/The more I tend to push her into oncoming traffic.” I feel the hurt in those words. And that’s something that has been seriously lacking from these challenges: feeling. Plain and simple, I felt the emotions you were writing about as I was reading it, and that is the most important thing a songwriter can do. Even if the idea isn’t incredibly original, the sentiment more than makes up for it. (This is the exact opposite of super_d’s in that respect.) I’m not trying to be a kiss ***, but I really just loved this song.
I'm glad I could make you believe that I'm actually a father.
If you want songs with insane emotion go to the Hardcore/Emo forum. There's no beating that.

#4 - ATC – Another song dealing with death…how unusual for that to happen in a challenge.
What made you think it was about death? Just curious.

I guess I took the lines "I'll take this to my grave" to literally. But overall, I thought that this was a song about lamenting over a lost loved one. Maybe I was way offbase, in which case let me know, but that's what I took from it.
Nahh, it's not a lament. At least, it wasn't intended as one. It's more a singer-songwriter fingerpicky song.
It's about a friend (almost goth) who doesn't like to smile etc. Though I can get her to smile and blush and do other emotional things that she isn't very fond of normally. She's all happy these days with a nice boyfriend and stuff to do. It's meant to be a tongue-in-cheek song about her. The cremated part is basically just a promise to not let her softer side become public knowledge.
But then, whatever you take from it is alright.

Thanks for the help on that ATC. After seeing that interpretation, I have to admit that I like the song a little bit more now. Not a lot more, but a little bit. I may/may not change your rank. But thanks again for laying it out for me.

Well this is different and I commend you for it. What is the fascination with ten? Maybe I'm not reading deep enough into it because I'm tired but an explanation would be nice as I'm curious and intrigued.
Brief explanation...
The reference to the number ten has to do with hands
# fingers = 10
We (humans) are facinated with blaming everyone else. Always.
The end part about ten digit roots and twigs is that sinful human flesh gives birth to only sinful human flesh.

Okay, everybody is done voting except super_deluxe who has an extension. The only problem is that P. Rocker and Wannabe Steve Harris' votes are illegal in more than one way each. You a) can't vote for yourself and b) if you're going to just list the people in an order, you need to show which is best and which is worst so there is a way to read it. Most of the time you're expected to crit and give rankings and maybe ratings for the pieces you read. How bout you do that or else get banned?

DFelon, I think perhaps you should listen to the song that I have given credit to before you make judgments about how my song is indeed related to it. In fact, the only part that is related (and taken from it) is my title itself- it is a line in the song 'Night'. And from that, I personified the "Reason" on my very own. The "uniqueness", as you call it, was absolutely not lifted from the band A Perfect Kiss. It's perfectly fine that you have your opinion about my lyrics, but please don't make assumptions. Especially when the only reason for them is because you don't like the name of the band. That is foolish. My piece is not written as a continuation or "re-arrangement" of the lyrics to 'Night', I was inspired by the one line. I'm sorry for the confusion.
Also, I certainly didn't expect anyone here to know this, but this song is the 'part one', if you will, of a two-part piece. This song stands alone musically- and lyrically- but it is followed by another piece.
By the way, I'm glad to see that you picked up on the annoyance of the ten fingers.

Hey. I implied the disclaimer that I was assuming that the uniqueness was lifted. What was the word I used, "guess?" I was only making an assumption to log a complaint about that crappy band name, and I didn't linger on the idea of being inspired by that song for too long did I?

Wannabe Steve Harris - 3.2 - This is far too boring and trite of a subject to be written so prosaically. If you want to make a storyline lyric, you should combine a story that is original (yours is old news) and make the details of it exciting enough, or the language with which you convey those details exciting enough that you inspire the reader to follow the story (which you definitely haven't done). It's all rather boring and uninspired
I have certainly been critical of others on this forum and always appreciate any constructive feedback, but I have to question this. Are you telling me you think the majority of subjects covered in this forum are generally less boring?? If so, I am perplexed, as I would love to know how many tunes we can rate that are anti-war, anti-religion, suicidal and about unrequited love before we get bored? I have searched the forums and have yet to find one about my subject yet. But, I do understand that each person has the right to be "bored" by whatever they wish to be.
Also, my other issue is that it seems to me that the majority of "Songs" that are praised on these boards are very un-songlike in structure. Poetry, maybe. Eloquent, sure, many times. Excessively wordy and over the top, often. But not songs, or words that would lend themselves well to music, at least in my opinion. Finally, I have to disagree with this particular piece being one that doesn't "inspire the reader to follow the story". The general feedback I got from this song doesn't support that, but if it's your opinion, great. To each his own.

Listen to something by a band that isn't Iron Maiden and you'll see complex style. We are judging lyrics, not the song. You can have brilliant lyrics in a boring song, look at some of Elliott Smith's stuff.

In case you didn't notice, the highest rank I gave in this comp was 6.2. That's pretty low. The highest I've ever given is around an 8.5-9.0. I am very picky and critical. Get over it. Your subject is more boring than most I've read around here, particularly in this comp. Dude, I've been here for 4 years and my time here is only a limited exposure to my overall interests in lyrics, poetry, and other written arts. Your crap is trite. Once again, get over it. I'm jaded because I've read far better. If some of the churls in LC have praised your piece, that's great. Your piece appealed to those people. My tastes are much more narrow and carefully defined than others around here. That's one of the reasons I've been here for so long, won more challenges than anybody else here, and am the mod. Sorry to be a wanker about it all but it seems you're complaining in a vague way for being my least favorite. It's not a big deal. This is one song in what should be a growing number of pieces. Maybe you'll write one that I think is better next time.

Hey man, whatever you say. As I mentioned you're free to have any opinions you want. However, I think assuming that most of the others on here are some kind of idiot and not the "lyrical God" that you feel you are is pretty juvenille. It's one thing to have "narrow tastes" but to just call someone elses stuff "trite crap"(especially when you have read maybe less than 1% of all things I have written) is pretty weak. Even though a lot of Jazz music bores me, I realize there is talent behind the music and can rate it objectively.
Listen to something by a band that isn't Iron Maiden and you'll see complex style. We are judging lyrics, not the song. You can have brilliant lyrics in a boring song, look at some of Elliott Smith's stuff.
Yeah, you got it right bud. All I listen to is Iron Maiden...cause we all know these are the kind of lyrics they write...LOL. I have over 2500 CD's and FAR more of them are non-metal than metal. Don't make assumptions based soley on a Screen name. Am I going to assume "Dfelon" is a career criminal? No.

I think that this song is trite crap, not your whole library. Obviously, I can't make that distinction. Your point is wack. If you want to reply to this do it in the new thread.
