Drummer here. I recorded my drums to the guitar track of one of my favorite songs by Incubus, Nice To Know You. If you're able to record your bass and you think you'd be able to play it, record your bass over the song and see how it turns out. I'd love to see some of the results you guys might be able to come up with! Thanks in advance

The guitar track is the ripped hard left+right from the original track. While mixing, guitars (espcially distorted) in contemporary (A band that doesnt do this is RHCP on Californication; almost everythings in mono) songs are almost always panned hard+left right to leave the center for bass, snare, kick drum, vocals, etc..

well the beggining kinda suck though, i had no click nothing so i didn't know the tempo. so it's kinda chopy should have take more than 2 takes hehe anyway good time we should do more

Yeah, I rushed a bit. This track really wasn't intended for playing with other people. I just recorded it really fast to have other people criteque the drum sound. Along with the intro, there's other slight timing issues during certain fills throughout the song.

btw dwjk, do you have any other tracks like that ?

I'm going to go record Incubus - Pardon Me in the same manner. After this one, YOU tell me a song and I'll do it. But we gotta do Pardon Me. It happens to be one of my favorite songs as well. I'll post it when in finished

EDIT: I'm going to do Rage Against The Machine - Bulls On Parade, too. If anyone's up to this (including treize), please post something! I love this

tr3ize
08-10-2005, 07:19 PM

Well if no one else is I'll take a stab at it. This took way too many takes. That bass solo to guitar solo transition is tricky. I screwed up on it 6 times in a row before finally breaking down and editing in a good transition. I'm going to mess around with different settings tomorrow. I've never really recorded myself so this is a good opportunity to hear what I actually sound like.

This was fun. Keep them coming DWJK.

I'd also be very interested in doing some tool covers if you can do the drums DWJK. I obviously can't reproduce chancellor's tone but it'll sound good nonetheless.

Nice job wickedstylez. I really like the distortion.

I second the request for Born of Broken Man. Actually, any RATM or Audioslave for that matter. Maybe Hush for a Tool song?

(Eagerly awaits DWJK's next upload)

AWESOME job Wicked. I'm considering a few bands for the next one: Tool, 311, Audioslave, RHCP, or Metallicas 'Enter Sandman'. I'm working on Schism.

thanks man. any of those would be good except audioslave (not a big audioslave fan, which is weird because i LOVE RATM. guess i just don't like chris cornell:) ) another good tool song to do would be Crawl Away. awesome song and fairly simple. or you could do stinkfist, my all time fav tool song :thumb: anyway, i look forward to adding bass to whatever song ya wanna do. :)

Listened to Schism for the first time seriously (I've always heard the riff and other parts @ friends houses, just never all the way through.). I have no problem with verse, the chorus is bitchy as hell though :-/ I'll work on it as soon as it's early enough to play, heh

Oh boy. Time to relearn all the parts after the interlude of that song. In the meantime I learned Nice To Know You. I'll try recording that sometime tomorrow as I'm going to be out of the house all day today. Thanks for this. I was in the middle of a bass slump, but now I have something to strive for.

Glad I could help!

Schism's going to take a bit of non-stop listening to learn. In the meantime I recorded Incubus - Circles

You should give the song a shot even if you don't like Incubus, @ 1:06 is one of my favorite musical moments... ever.

Here's my Nice to Know You. I couldn't get the timing down for the intro to save my life, plus there's some other mistakes scattered throughout :) Still fun though.

I'm going to learn Circles now. I'll see if I can get it down enough to record it before I go out tonight.

Like I said, keep them coming! I'll learn any song you record as long as I can find a tab for it.

Reviving this thread. This time up it's 'Bombtrack' by Rage.

As far as my drumming goes, I coulda played it a little tighter, but there were parts during the solo I really liked so I didnt retake anything. The snare wasn't loud enough in the mix, but what can you do

Post something. I love hearing this **** guys!

But I saw the threadstarter tried to revive it, so I figured I'd lend a hand.
