What does operatic vocal training offer than normal vocal training?

Very proper technique.

So you might would not be using falsetto, but you would be helping out your truevoice. Depends though. You might could ask a teacher about these things before hand...or just call around and talk to them on the phone. Countertenor is usually when the male uses falsetto, so if youre interested in using falsetto you can ask them about that.

All vocal technique is either correct or it is bunk. Opera singers are taught the same basic vocal technique as any good voice teacher will give you...BUT they also get training in STYLE. As you can imagine, the style and desired sound for opera is quite different than for other types of music, and will not serve you well if you want to sing something other than opera.
