I'm planning on getting a PodXt (not live), and I heard that its not good to put in an effects loop and plug into an amp. Is that true, will it not work if plugged into an amp?

Yes it works. It's also the best to put it in the effects loop. Read the manual when you get it or just go to the line6 forums.

Whoever told you that has no idea what they are talking about.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm glad it will work. I don't have the room or money for the live. I just heard from people that it was more of a preamp, and that plugging it into another amp would sound bad.

It will make a s.hitty mc**** amp sound good, i plug it into a little 16 wwatt amp and it sounds alot better. and i MEAN alot, its a ****ty *** amp too

Not doubting that it sounds good, but someone can easily fool themselves that something sounds good when they spend a substantial amount of money on it.

i tried putting my mt-2 in my effects loop on my Hrd and it sounded really bad. I also have a me-33 by boss, will that sound better in my effects loop or should i not bother getting it?

I suggest you go research what an FX loop's purpose actually is.

So it works better in the loop or in front of the amp?

A modeler will sound best through something like a PA system with full range speakers. But with a guitar amp, it will sound best in the effects return (with the preamp bypassed).

Plugging Guitar > PodXT > FX Return of Amp will yield a good sound. I highly suggest getting the PodXT Live really, it's not too fun switching stuff with your hand.

MIDI is more versatile though.

PODxt = $300
PODxtl = $400?

PODxt + Behringer FCB1010 = $450
PODxt + Rocktron MIDI Mate = $450

It's only $50 more than just getting an xtl.

Is it worth $50 more though?

What exactly does the footcontroller do that the podxt live doesn't do? I'm thinking about getting one soon.

Well you can use your expression pedal for more than wah, volume or tweak. You can also have 10 patches at your feet or 5 and how ever many control changes depending on the controller you buy.

Go used and its probably cheaper still.
I swear MetalJonus just got the FCB10101 for like $101USD.

I would spend $100 extra to get the live (Which I am), because it's easier to deal with, already comes with one of the packs, is usable in a live setting, has a wah/volume control pedal, and...yeah, switching by hand is a pain.

i guess this would be a good place to post this....
i run a sonic maximizer in my loop, but now i also have a behringer v-amp pro (yeah, i know crappy cheap alternative to the pod). how should i run that?

I tried running mine through my fx loop and I thought it sounded better in front. Of course at the time I was still learning about the configurations in the pod, but I've only used it for direct recording since, since that's why I got it.
