In hip-hop lines are often stolen from an artist and used by another, often in my opinion to pay tribute. Beats are also reused. Some of the examples I have found are as follows.
Boombox-Aesop Rock
Da Mystery of Chessboxin'-Wu-Tang Clan
"raw I'ma give it to you, with no trivia"
Always Coming Back Home To You-Atmosphere
Shook Ones Part II-Mobb Deep
"to all the killers and the hundred dollar billers"
Letter From the Gov't-Brother Ali
Officer-The Pharcyde
"I got a letter from the..."
and then the same can be done with beats in example.
Creation & Destruction-Immortal Technique
Long Kiss Goodnight-The Notorious BIG
My question for you is can you help me find similar examples

"I got a letter from the..."
Ummm...
"I got a letter from the government" is from Public Enemy. "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos." In fact, the Pharcyde sample Chuck D saying it.
Kanye West on "Classic"
Rob Base on "It Takes Two"

Eric B & Rakim - As The Rhyme Goes On

And if I wasn't, then who would I say I am?
Nas - Got Urself A Gun
I'm the N to the A to the S-I-R
And if I wasn't, I must've been Escobar
"You're reign on the top was shorter than leprechauns" is a Biggie line that Jay-Z used in the intro track on The Blueprint.
there was also a recent song I heard that sampled the strings from Raekwon's Rainy Dayz but I can't remember who it was by. It was a fairly well known dude, though.

I've only really just gotten into rap, but I really started off with alot of leftfield non-typical stuff like CLOUDDEAd, Why?, Spank Rock, Deltorn 3030 and Dr. Octagon. I'm actually currently digging Organized Konfusion, who blow almost everyone else I've heard out of the water in the lyric department, and Pharoahe Monch's latest album, Desire, is really good/accessible too (i think anyway).
And has anyone here heard of The Herd? There an aussie Skip-Hop crew, really damn cool stuff they got going, I'm probably gonna see them sometime next month for the release of their new album tour =D

Yeah I just finished my review for it. Hated it at first but now I think it's a solid 4/5. It's a lot more...tense. There's a weird blend between new-school and old-school, and it's really dark. There are a shitload of guests, so Black Thought's mediocrity isn't as noticeable, but in the same vein the entire thing feels kind of impersonal as a result.
Black Thought is a great MC.
People say he has no charisma, and I can see that tbh.
But he fits well in the context; he doesn't take too much focus away from the other band members.

I'm a little disappointed with the new atmosphere, his style is too mellow on this one and the beats are kinda boring, but maybe it'll grow on me.
After the first couple tracks I thought I'd feel that way, but I dunno. I just find it really easy to get into it, and the slower flow suits the lyrics he's writing now and the character he's putting across. There's some really heavy lines on there that just wouldn't have worked otherwise.

Liquid Swords... IMHO that's one of the best hip-hop records period, although i'm biased because it's the album that really got me into hip-hop at the time.
But at the very least, it's the most uniform, atmospheric and consistent Wu-related record. Great rhymes from GZA himself, the best production of RZA's carreer, and incredible guest spots -- guest spots that don't just add another gigantic ego to the mix or rep someone's cousin nobody gives a **** about; but guests that never try to steal the show but just contribute to make it a better and more versatile album. Eg. Killah Priest and Insp. Deck really delivered on that album.

Maybe it's not the Gorillaz then. I thought it was because of the animation style. Anyway, it's about basically this kid who is like happy at home, ends up joining the military and going to war, does some things he doesn't like, and I think like escapes capture or something. Basically all he can think of is getting back home. Ends up with him getting a medal on like national tv and then going back home or something.
I'm probably missing some details of the vid, but like I said it was animated so that's why I thought it was the Gorillaz.
It's not Dirty Harry, I've looked.
