I'm looking for some songs to play on keyboard, but i'm not sure where to find them. I want music that sounds very gloomy, evil, dark, and depressing. If you could supply a link to sheet music, that would be great too.

Silhouette. It's been talked about to death on this forum, I wouldn't be surprised if you had already thought of it. I'm looking for songs like that as well though, and if I find any I'll let you know.

Silhouette by Opeth?

Just about anything by Arcturus, especially "Ad Astra." The intro to "Star Crossed" is also a beautiful piece.

Yep, that's it. I'm working on transcribing the rest of it, but it's coming along painfully slowly since my ear for music is horribly underdeveloped and I can't pick up the melody easily :upset:

Do you know where I could get the sheet music for it? I'll do a search for it, but I know from experience that trying to find sheet music takes a long, long time and often you don't end up finding anything.

Haha...I wish. I'd LOVE to get some sheet music from some of the cool rock/metal bands with keyboards, like Nightwish for example (hehe...speaking of which). The problem is that a band like Arcturus isn't exactly well known enough for someone to actually do any official transcriptions (that I know of).

Edit: It seems that Symphony X has a transcription submission page. If you're ready for a....err...."large curve," then you could try some of their stuff. :)

Vladimir Horowitz writes some very sombre music.

Also, Chopin writes some evil/gloomy sounding ones, too. You just have to pick the right ones.

Who here thinks Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" isn't a sad song? You should be shot, :p.

'Devilish poem' by Scriabin. Beware, it is extremely difficult.

Excellent :D
Thanks Det_Nosnip! I had no idea this was on the website. And the keyboard stuff is on sheet music, not tabs. I hate keyboard tabs with a passion.

Yeah, tabs suck the dog dick of Anubis, for sure.

That's awesome Tsasi, I like the look of the stuff on that page. I'll start transcribing some of it...once I'm done with Silhouette.

Alright, I've looked for evil piano music for a good few years and i've come accross quite a few that would be fun to play. Rachmaninoff's (rachmaninov) Prelude in C# minor is good, and so his his 3rd, but I think that is probably a tad to hard (the 3rd) also Rachmaninoff's Prelude In G is pretty good. I don't know if your looking for heavy metal evil but you should defiently check those 3 I listed. Good Luck

I don't think its about chords at all. I can see how you think that though, and its true most people would consider minor/diminished cords "dark" or "evil" but its more about the way its written. Like it starts out happy and upbeat then slows down and then turns into like evil-mean-fast(or slow). Like to describe the notes. idk I would still recomend those titles IM me on AIM or MSN if you want them. or if you have limewire its Prelude in C#minor (op.3 No.2)Rachmaninoff (Rachmaninov) and Hungarian Rhapsody #15 Franz Liszt

Oh....I forgot to mention: Gustav Mahler, Symphony No. 9. ****ing amazing piece...it's really long, and very powerful. More dark and tragic than evil...it's supposedly a musical expression of the last moments of life and death. Very powerful, gripping stuff...amazingly well written.

Another one that is good is Raining Blood done by Tori Amos. It is a cover of the Slayer song. It is beautiful and dark.

Check out Liapanov's Transcendental Etude No. 10 (op. 11), it's my favourite piece of all time. You've got the be Vladimir Ashkenazy to play it though (and I don't know if he even has). Definately get hold of a recording of it, and if you want the sheet music I can post a link.

There's parts of Opeth - "Ghost Of Perdition" and "Baying Of The Hounds," that have really depressing, yet beautiful keyboards. Per is awesome!

Dark and evil sounding?

With your right hand, play an F, Bb, C, and Eb chord. Plays quarters with this, at about the octave above middle C.

With your left hand, play half notes, starting at two Fs an octave apart (down pretty low), and go chromatically up until you reach Ab, then go back down to F.
