A mate and I are going to see Land of the Dead at the movies tonight, So on Saturday night we had a Romero 'arathon, we watched the 30th Anniversary of Night of the Living Dead, then we watched the European Directors cut of the original Dawn of the Dead and then we watch Day of the Dead.

That was an awesome night. :smoke:

Has anyone seen Land of the Dead yet?

What did you think of it?

No spoilers plz. :)

I thought it was a really lame movie. But seeing as how it is a zombie flick you can generally assume there will be very little plot/character development.

I haven't seen it. I really want to though.

I thought the new Dawn Of The Dead was really good. A good, gory, zombie flick.

Yeah it was good and bad, there was a lot cut out of the beginning of the movie, character development and the zombie that gets his head cut off by the chopper blades

But there was some extra pieces added to the character development later on in the movie which was pretty cool, some extra scenes with flyboy ect. Just little things that stand out.

i think the original Dawn and the newest Dawn were pretty close in how good they were. maybe its just me, but i liked the original better. maybe because i saw the 140 minute long original instead of the standard 125 minutes. the new Dawn still had nothing wrong with it. very intense movies. extremely well acted too, i mean for a horror movie.

I saw this to what seems awhile ago.

It had some cool killing scenes yet it barely went into any detail about anything. It was just about as cliche as it gets, and for some reason I laughed through most of it.

I'm with you on that one, the original is heeps better than the remake, the characters have more depth to them. plus it has more of a realistic feel to it.

You should check out the 90s remake of Night of the Living Dead, it ain't bad.

Given Romero's history, he probably focused more on the underlining meaning of the movie rather than on kills. Even Night of... is just really about revolution, and the turmoil of the 60s. Still, though, in this department, it's nothing new, just hopefully more people will catch on to it.

Anyone see any of his non-zombie movies? I've seen The Crazies, and Martin. The former is about a military biological weapon accidentally being released on a small Pennsylvania town. There are actually striking similarities between this and Outbreak such as the contamination suits, the plot, and even camera shots. The latter is a little twist on vampires. Their each interesting ideas, and should be seen by Romero fans.

Land of the Dead was meh. The killings were the best part.

The thing that really bothered me about the new Dawn Of The Dead was that they didn't give a real explanation about the zombies. The only thing that came close was the black preist talking about how hell overflowed or something.

Psst. That's the only reason Romero ever gives.

If you ask me, that's a good thing, as there is no good reason for the dead to return to life...yet.

No reason > any reason.

That's an awesome interpretation of the original, Tom Savini did a great job on that flick. Plus the chick that plays Barberra is hot!

I've been trying to find those movies for a while now, I don't think they've been re-released on dvd yet or if they are they haven't been released in Australian yet. :(

Just a piece of trivia, the old black guy that plays the preist in the remake is the same acter that stars in the original.

Thought I'd let you know incase you didn't already know. :D

That is kind of a neat thing to add to the mystery. Romero rocks my socks.

If you're a big fan of the good ole three.. You'll love the new one.. (Although you might be a little dissapointed by the ending.. I'm expecting there to be a different one in a directors cut some day)...
The gore is amazing, Romero's ... Special.. Kind of humour is there. And the zombies aren't running.. Three things that makes this movie good in my book

Saw it last night, thought it was cool. Good ol' Romero knows how to kill people.
Loved the scene where Kaufman gets the call that john Leguizamo has been caught
(the one where he has just come out of the elevator)

I liked the concept better than the execution. Which is weird because it was a zombie movie.

Didn't he make, "Monkey Shines"? That was actually a great idea for a film. I'm just not sure that John Beghe was the best actor to play the lead....um................................with his pet monkey.

The 90's reamke of Night of the living dead is one of my favourite movies.....
That makes me sound hypocritical, as i'm usually someone that detests reamkes.....
The original Dawn Of The Dead is great! I loved the Special effects....(I've got the European Version on DVD), but I felt the remake was utter crap....
I've ordered Day of the dead, and I'm hoping it's going to live up to the high standards the other films set.....And i'm quite interested in Land of the dead.....

I still think Day of the Dead is the best movie he ever made (Better than Dawn)
The acting and Characters in Day are so awesome, it's a very intense, claustrophobic movie, plus the zombies and gore is unreal.

When Day was first released people were dissapointed because they were expecting a follow on from Dawn, Day is not a follow on from Dawn, which I think is a good thing, it shows a different outlook on how the epidemic effected diffent groups of people.

I think Land was a great movie, just diisapointing in the fact that Day was so damn good.

I shall have something to look forward to when I get the Movie then!....

*In order to NOT spam up this thread I shall post here -

I watched 'Day Of The Dead' today, and I thought it was great....
The SFX were fantastic (as usual, with Tom Savini) and the storyline was plausible....Bub ruled!*

The movie was crap. It was like a block of swiss cheese. The holes being plot holes. It also had those little things in there that are just stupid, like a guy on a motorcycle killings zombies with an American Flag on the back. OH, LOOK OUT! HE'S KILLING ZOMBIES PATRIOTICALLY!

ZING!

Really, what's with the zombie having fealings? It looked retarded.

Dawn of the Dead > Land of the Dead

No, I haven't seen the originals and I don't care. Blow me.
