Storm In A Teacup

I thought they played that long here, but I could be wrong. That must be it.
I might be going to see UnderOath, Moneen, Silverstein, and He Is Legend in September.

Moneen and UnderOATH are cool. Well, new UnderOATH is cool at least. The older stuff sucks.
Kool Haus. But I'm not sure if I can go. I told my music teacher I last year that I would do dragonboat races with her, teachers and some other students, and it happens to be the same day. I need to know what time it ends at to see if I can make it to the concert. I would love to see all 4 of those bands, He Is Legend again.
kool haus is pretty nice. i was there for afi, and i'm going again (hopefully) for rancid. who are you going with?
A couple of friends, if they want to go with me that is...
if they're your friends they'll obviously want to go see band that they like
Well it's moreso if they can go. My mom won't care, as long as I have a ride there and back and it's not her driving, she's fat/lazy. But if I do this dragonboat thing, I have to travel another half hour because I will be further from Toronto. I might see if I can drop out of the race though...I was kinda suckered into it.
LOL your mom is fat. it sucks because i don't think the kool hause is on a bus route
Well it's a ways away from Union Station, not really walking distance, not late at night anyways.

A Change of Pace:
These were the main stage openers and our first stop for the day. The venue wasn't packed so early in the day, understandably since it was ~100 out at the time, but these guys still put a lot into their show. Admittedly, I have both of their CDs but neither has ever been in heavy rotation for me, so I wasn't too familiar with their songs, but they put a lot of energy in and were entertaining openers.
Sparta:
These guys played second on the mainstage and though I'm not a fan of the band in particular, they did a good job, more or less. The fact that the band was out of tune for half of the set was a little discouraging and, well, unprofessional, but they did finally get in tune and that was nice. They felt like a watered down At the Drive-In to me though so I wasn't huge on the music. If they had had Omar up there on guitar I may have dug it a lot more though.
After this we wandered over to the local band stage for awhile because we had no desire to see She Wants Revenge. Alas the local stage was running an hour late so we stayed for the bands we'd planned on seeing anyways and missed Jack's Mannequin as well...which was a reputedly bad show anyways so good riddance I guess.
Seconds to Breathe:
This was easily the most aggressive promoting band at the festival. They had a lot of flyers and put a lot into attracting people to their show. Alas, the one hour delay dude to technical difficulties drove many of the curious bystanders away and their crowd was pretty dead by the time they played. They had a lot of energy, but I didn't particularly dig the music. Great crowd interaction though and they gave away a lot of free merch to attract new fans. Very classy.
Thousand Yard Stare:
While STB was attempting to fix the technical difficulties, the frontman for TYS was doing a good job of interacting with the crowd around there, very friendly, also giving out free merch before they even played. The set itself was better that STB as far as my tastes go although their set was not as energetic in my opinion. I did enjoy it more due to the music though.
Vitruvian:
Second time seeing them, amazingly, this time they were on an even smaller stage than last time. They ended up in the crowd a little bit even because they like to move around and keep the energy flowing. Todd wasn't a big fan of the music but I enjoy it. I think these guys are going to potentially be the next big Arizona band. They fit the local scene well and put a lot into their shows.
Captain Squeegee and the Soap Suds:
Second time seeing these guys as well, first time was opening for Streetlight Manifesto last year. They've matured a lot since then and put on a real good show with some great tunes and even have put together a CD I'll be picking up soon. If not Vitruvian I could see these guys also becoming the next big AZ band. Lots of energy, very friendly, all smiles on stage. Upbeat just like their music.
Now we wandered back to the main stage for the duration of the evening:
Authority Zero:
Probably the craziest crowd of the night. I was highly anticipating these guys and though Todd found them boring, I really enjoyed it. I mean, by the middle of the first song, trash bins were crowd surfing, you know it's going to be a good show. Besides the garbage bins, another highlight was the lead singer climbing up one of the stage pillars part of the way, and then leaping into the crowd. They actually caught him and it was pretty sweet.
30 Seconds to Mars:
Well, Jared Leto is an actor. As such, he likes to have a stage presence. Alas, he has so much stage presence they only played I think 6 or 7 songs in a 45 minute set, and their songs aren't that long. The were best the first time I saw them. They play too few songs because they talk a lot and they never play old stuff anymore. They could be great if they had a little less bull****.
There was a little but of space between sets so in the mean time the cameras were scanning the crowd. Well the got to this one girl on the shoulders of some guy, and, well, her shirt started to make its way up, and all of a sudden the camera feed died...to lots of booing. This happened several times before Todd and I realized she was about 100 feet away, and then we got to see boobs even after the camera feed died, good times. Even better was the dad who picked his son up to see it over the crowd. I hope to be that cool of a dad if I ever get into the whole family thing. Hell, if I have kids, they're going to Metal shows with me.
Rise Against:
Once again, great. Almost the same set list as when I saw them at Warped this year disappointingly, but besides that a great set. the crowd was too dead at this point for anyone to die alas, but that allowed us to get closer than I'd expected which ended up being real cool. During their set I ran out of water and was screaming enough that my memory starts to go from here on and I was a bit out of it towards the end of the set. Awesome though. At the end the hosts told us there was a crowd of 20000 people there which seems high but if true is amazing.
Incubus:
I was very out of it for this set. Headbanging plus dehydration and general fatigue really took its toll on me here. I don't remember a lot of it and I'm pretty sure I passed out a few times. Given that teh energy put me to sleep, I can't give it the best review, and it didn't get me into the band at all as I found it to be pretty mediocre, but the people there to see Incubus had a great time. Hell, it was their first show in 2 years in the US they said, so I'm sure it was quite the show to see. What I remember of it was pretty decent at least...but I was in a lot of pain and out of it so I was in too bad of a mood to properly enjoy it either way.

So, anyway, last night I went to see KMFDM and Combichrist. It was unlike anything I have ever seen.
To start, I have never seen so many 'goths' in one place in my life. For those of you who don't know, KMFDM is an industrial band, and apparently 'goths' like that kind of thing.
It was also the loudest show I've ever been to. I thought my head was going to explode.
Combichrist (http://myspace.com/combichrist)
These guys are from Norway, apparently. Having never heard any of there music, I didn't know what to expect. I knew they were an industrial band, but that was about it.
They played for about an hour, and I was pretty much blown away. They had an awesome light display (as did KMFDM), and they set was high energy. They got a huge reception from the crowd as well.
KMFDM (http://www.myspace.com/officialkmfdm)
These guys were originally from Germany, which explains why a good part of their set wasn't in english. Either way, they were really good. They played about an hour and a half, and for the most part, people seemed to be really into it.
I got the idea some people were only there to see Combichrist though, based on the fact that a few people where shouting "KMFDM sucks" when everyone else was calling for an encore.
Either way, awesome night. I never would have imagined myself at an industrial show, but it was really cool.

Anyway, I might as well write up a quick review of another interesting show I went to...
Bukue One (w/ Tee Double)

http://myspace.com/teedouble
So, yeah, this was a hip-hop show. I listen to very little hip-hop, but my dad was asked to bartend the show, so I went.
Bukue one and Tee Double were a pretty awesome intro to my first-ever hip-hop show. I especially liked Tee Double's freestyle.

I wasn't as into these guys as I was the first two (^), but they weren't bad.
Mike Relm
http://myspace.com/mikerelm

Del Tha Funky Homosapien (w/A-Plus)
http://myspace.com/delthefunkyhomosapien

I like these guys a lot as well. Overall, the whole show was cool, because it wasn't the kind of hip-hop/rap that you hear on the radio.

Last night I saw Death Cab For Cutie and Ted Leo And The Pharmacists. It was one of the best shows I've ever been too.
Ted Leo And The Pharmacists
So amazing. They played for about 40 minutes, but it seemed like no time at all.
The only disappointing part about their set was that half of the auditorium was empty when they played, and even at that, most people seemed to have no idea who they were. For a 2500+ person show, I thought they got a really poor response from the crowd.
Either way, they were still awesome.
Death Cab For Cutie
Death Cab was great as well. They played for about an hour and a half, and played pretty much everything I wanted to hear.
"I Will Follow You Into The Dark" was pretty much the best 3 minutes in recent memory.
Also, toward the end of the set, a second drumset was set-up, and played by Ben. The band just jammed with two drumsets, one guitar, and a bass for a good 15 minutes. It was really cool.
Overall, amazing night.

So, yesterday I saw Hellogoodbye, Reggie And The Full Effect, Cute Is What We Aim For, and Dave Melillo... twice.
Since Cute is so big around here, and Hellogoodbye is becoming quite popular, they played two shows at the club I "work" at.
Dave Melillo
Seeing as he only has an EP, Dave Melillo played the same exact set both times. He was really good both times, though.
Cute Is What We Aim For
These guys played the same set both times as well. The only difference between the two sets was that the first song they played in the early show was the third song they played in the late one. As far as I could tell, that was the only difference in the two sets.
Although I feel that they are way too caught up in their "fame", I do like some of their music, so it was alright.
Also, during their first set, the barricade broke, and they had to take a ten minute break. Lame.
Reggie And The Full Effect
As a result of the barricade breaking during Cute's set, Reggie's first set got cut short. Also, the keyboard wasn't working, so they couldn't play much of a variety of songs. They were still awesome though.
The second RATFE set went much smoother. They got to play the full time, and the keyboard was working, so they played a lot of songs they didn't play earlier. They even covered "Reign In Blood" by Slayer. \m/
Overall, I'd say Reggie was the best performer of the day. Their music is great, and James (lead singer) is one of the funniest guys around. It's too bad not many people appreciated them. :-\
Hellogoodbye
Their first set was solid, but I was disappointed that they didn't play "Touchdown Turnaround". Luckily, they said they would be playing a whole different set at the late show.
As promised, Hellogoodbye mixed it up a lot for their second set. They played some "essential" songs at both shows ("Dear Jamie", "Shimmy Shimmy...", etc.), but overall, the sets were quite different.
For the encore of the second set, they played "Touchdown Turnaround", which was cool, followed by one of the most awesome covers I've ever seen...
"Fight For Your Right", by the Beastie Boys!
It was amazing. Both shows ended up being a lot of fun.

Depends how much time they have because every time I have seen them they've been headlining. Both times I've seen them from TAYF they played, You Know How I Do, Bike Scene, Cute Without The E, Great Romances of the 20th Century, they played Ghost Man On Third one time, Timberwolves At New Jersey, and You're So Last Summer. I'm sure they will not play that many though. Prolly like three or four of those.

Taste of Chaos - Manchester, UK
Saosin
Ive never really liked sound, they sound generic and repetitive and this did little to change my mind. there wasnt much crowd reception for them but thats understandle seen as it was full of kids. I dont listen to them so cant comment on song choice. they played the song i know well, "seven years" but for some reason Cobe cant scream live and neither can anyone else in the band. So they just left out all screaming. This seemed pretty stupid to me but whatever.
5/10
Senses Fail
All the horror stories of buddy's awful vocals didnt seem to be true on the evidence of this performance. hes much improved since the last time i saw them and even though they only played "rum is for drinking" of their first album ill let that slide seen as they only had a thirty minute set and there coming back to the uk in february. they had plenty of energy and buddy has good stage precense. they did well of almost no crowd reception.
7/10
Underoath
They weren't especially bad but at the same weren't very good. the absense of reinventing your exit annoyed a lot of people who paid to see them. regardless of whether they like the song it would of made alot of people happy if they had just played it. otherwise they played a lot of new stuff and nothing pre-chasing safety. Devoting songs to jesus is not at all my style and was met with complete silence by the uk crowd.
6/10
Alexsionfire
Best band of the night by some way. but it was far from a classic performance. the problem with taste of chaos is that band sdont get very long to play their songs, which will always leave people unhappy at the setlist. still they played accidents, 44 calibre love letter, waterwings and this could be anywhere. i wish they had played some more of the first two albums but they had a thirty minute set and are back in february so ill see them again then. Dallas' voice was a little quiet but their singer seems quite a good entertainter onstage which surprised me.
8/10
Anti-Flag
Having heard Anti-Flag previously and knowing its not my thing, i made the executive decision to go to the fish and chip shop down the road instead of watching them.
Taking Back Sunday
Firstly Fred couldnt make it tonight for "family reasons" and while this is understandable it meant that i had paid £20 for half an hour of Alexis and a thrown together TBS performance, with no chance of a refund. Aside from that they played mostly new material with Vocalists from Underoath and Saosin and guitarist from Anti-flag and Saosin filling in. We got a just like heaven cover which was cool but it seemed i was the only guy there who'd ever heard the song before. They only played So Last Summer, CUte without the E and Decade Under the Influence from their back catalogue as well as coming on ten minutes late and not making up for it later. i know they had their reasons but it doesnt stop me being annoyed at the sub-par performance we got. Vocal wise the fill in s sounded almost exactly like Fred so no complaints there.

Over the last two nights, I've seen Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Necrophagist, Unmerciful, Rise Against, Thursday, Circa Survive, and Billy Talent.
10/16 - Cannibal Corpse, etc.
Unmerciful opened the show to a fairly empty room. I found this kind of funny, because the show was moved because it was "too big" for it's original venue.
Anyway, these guys were alright. They seemed to be pretty typical death metal, but that didn't bother me too much, as I don't listen to that much death metal. I found myself becoming a bit bored during their last couple songs though.
Necrophagist was the band I was most excited to see, and they did not disappoint. They're an incredibly talented band, and they did not skip a beat live. They were AMAZING.
The third band, Dying Fetus, had a bit of a different sound. I have one of their albums, but only listened to it once before the show, so I really didn't know what to expect. They were alright, but like Unmerciful, they became boring after a while.
By the time Cannibal Corpse came on, the room was pretty well filled. From what I heard, there ended up being about 650 people at the show.
Cannibal Corpse was quite good, and played a long set. I found myself zoning out a bit, but it was more because I was than anything else.
Overall, it was a solid show. Necrophagist blew me away.
PS - I'm glad I wasn't in the pit during CC, because, from what I heard, there was a naked dude moshing. I didn't see it, but I was really far away.
11/17 - Rise Against, etc.
Although I don't like Billy Talent much, I enjoyed them live. They had a lot of energy, and really got the crowd pumped up. They played my the two songs I really like by them too, so that was cool.
As with Billy Talent, Circa Survive doesn't do much for me. I've seen them a couple times, and I always find them boring. They have a couple songs I really like though, and they always play them, so that's cool. Last night was a typical Circa Survive set.
Thursday was really good. Although I was kind of annoyed with the crowd (a lot of 'haters'), I thought Thursday was great. They had an awesome set list, and they played for a decent amount of time (they co-headlined).
The only disappointing part was that they didn't play "Standing On The Edge Of Summer".
By the time Rise Against came on, some people had left, but not as many as I might have expected. I was shocked to find that Rise Against was so popular, even though anything 'hardcore' seems to be written off by the mainstream.
However, at the end of their hit-single "Swing Life Away", a good 200+ people left, even though they still had 4 songs left. This pretty much proved to me that most of the people there had no idea what hardcore was, and only knew Rise Against from their one, mellow, MTV hit.
Anyway, Rise Against was amazing. Even though no one knew any of their old stuff, they still put on one hell of a show. They played an awesome mix of old and new music, and they covered "Ohio" by Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young.
For their last song, "Ready To Fall", they brought out the lead singer from Buffalo-native Snapcase. There were maybe 50 people in the crowd who had any idea who Snapcase was, but that was no surprise, becuase whay would anyone at a 'hardcore' show in Buffalo know one of the key bands in Buffalo hardcore history.
Anyway, show ruled. Thursday and Rise Against were incredible.

Panic! At The Disco, Jack's Mannequin, Plain White T's
Dropped $80 for a pair of tickets in the upper deck for me and my girlfriend.
Plain White T's
Filled in for Bloc Party because their drummer broke his leg or something. They weren't really impressive. I didn't even catch their name until about 5 songs in but I was thinking the whole time, "this sounds like typical generic pop-punk." "Hey There Deliah" was pretty good though.
6/10
Jack's Mannequin
They were great. I never got around to buying their CD but I am definitely going to get it now. The only songs I recognized were "Mixtape" and "The Rescue" but they ended with "We Were Made For Each Other" which was awesome. Andrew is incredible live and he went wild for the last song, jumping on the piano and filming the crowd doing the wave. The only thing I thought was that I didn't really see that much of a difference between them and SoCo. I mean JM seemed more piano driven I guess and more rock based, but I don't see why Andrew doesn't focus on SoCo.
8/10
Panic! At The Disco
They did this neat little circus concept and started with actor's playing all the people from the cover of their CD out onstage dancing around. The whole set (they played the CD in order which I thought was lame but I guess it was to support the "concept") was filled with incredibly flexible dancers and other actors that acted on the song concepts. The band played very well, Brandon hit all the notes (plus some extra high crazy ones) and played piano. The whole band game out and did this drum off kind of thing with a marching band. At one point they played a video on the screen of some circus freaks. I think Ryan and Brandon kissed at one point too which made the crowd go wild (the crowd of course was 90% teenage girls). But the band played very tight and put on a hell of a show. They played a new song where Brandon played guitar too and they covered "Elanor Rigby" by The Beatles which was fantastic.

What days you in London? There's an amazing club 11-3 Tuesday night at the Borderline (Tottenham Court Rd tube), it's monthly and it's punk/ska/swing/all sorts of awesome. £3 entry I think, all drinks £2
and on Wednesday there's always NASIN at Camden Underworld which I'm addicted to. 11-2, punk/ska/hardcore/metal. £2 a pint of beer/snakebite or £2.50 a JD + coke. that's £2 entry.
If you came to NASIN you could meet me. Tempting, eh?
Sucks that The Square (squatted social centre) got evicted earlier this year, as it was right on Russell Square so woulda been right near to you. And there woulda been some amazing benefit gigs or parties on when you stayed.
I know they're planning to open up another social centre in Bloomsbury but it hasn't been done yet.......

Anyway, Rise Against was amazing. Even though no one knew any of their old stuff, they still put on one hell of a show. They played an awesome mix of old and new music, and they covered "Ohio" by Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young.
Anyway, show ruled. Thursday and Rise Against were incredible.
Which older songs did they play at your date? At the show I went to the only pre SSOTCC songs they played were Like the Angel and Blood Red, White and Blue.

Hit The Lights
Their pretty much the definition of generic pop punk but its fun enough even if they didn't really get the crowd going. I've had their album for a while but "Bodybag" is the only song i know well, they finished with it anyway. Their songs seem to lack definition and all sound pretty similar. With a sound that is pretty much Fall Out Boy's i cant see them ever becoming a huge band uniutl they get a sound of their own but they weren't exactly bad and they had a decent amount of energy.
6/10
The Early November
My first time of seeing one of my favourite bands. They came on tne minutes early which was great because we got an extra two songs. The set list was great, a good mix of old and new. They played, "Every Night's Another Story" and "I Want to Hear You Sad" both of which are personal favs. It must be said that the band has a lot of energy on stage and are very tight. Ace's singing sounds better live than on record at times, I was expectin with a unique voice like his that it might be a bit suspect. The new material is great small doses although doesn't quite fill up the triple disk. It was clear that while a lot of people hadn't heard them before, there were a considerable number of devoted Early November fans in attendance who were making a lot of noise for them. They even managed to slip in a few bars of "Champagne Supernova" which went down well in Oasis' hometown.
8/10
New Found Glory
Probably the best thing about this gig was the complete absense of kids in attendance. It seems that while NFG probably haven't picked up too many new fans with their new album that they haven't lost too many to age either. The average age was 18+ which was great because kids annoy me. Their set choice was spot on mixing old classics and new material. All the fan favourites were played, "Hit or Miss," "Better Off Dead," "Dressed To Kill" and "All About the Girls." I wish they would of played something of Nothing Gold Can Stay particularly "It Never Snows In Florida" but i guess you cant have everything. NFG are always good live. There tight and energetic and Jordan is a strong frontman. Their experience as a band really showed and where Hit The Lights may have lacked definition you could hear every note. They were on for about an hour and twenty minutes, longer than most bands of this genre and lef tpretty much every fan happy for the pop punk sing-a-long they had been treated to. It was great to see fans of all styles instead of a tight jeans and fringe fest.

Okay, so last night I went to see Gwar.
The first band of the night was The Bloody Crackdown. I didn't even know they were supposed to play, but they ended up being pretty decent. They were all dressed in army gear, and they had a stripper who danced around on stage the whole time, usually with a plastic AK-47.
Next up was Municipal Waste. I know I've mentioned before that I had to leave the last time Municipal Waste played here before they even came on, because the marijuana smoke was too much for me to handle. Well, I wasn't letting anything stop me from seeing them this time. There was still a ton of marijuana being smoked, but the club was big enough that I could get away from it.
Anyway, Municipal Waste was amazing. They had a ton of energy, and they went all out, even though it couldn't have been the same for them having to play behind a barricade. About halfway through the set, they brought out beer bongs for anyone of age in the crowd to drink from.
The Red Chord played third. I've seen them once before, and once again they were pretty good. Unlike the other bands, they didn't really have any sort of gimmick. (no fake blood/beer bongs/strippers/etc.), but they were still solid.
This show had to be really interesting for Gwar. From what I was told, they had to cut a good half of their production, because the club was so much smaller than what they usually play.
Either way, their show was still insane. The costumes, lights, fake blood, etc. were wild. They had all sorts of weird characters, most of whom they 'murdered' brutally. It was really a wild experience.
Note: I stood way in the back, away from all the blood.
Overall, crazy show. A lot of fun.

So I just saw The Matches and Plus 44.
I saw The Matches at Warped Tour a couple years ago, and I wasnt impressed. They were actually alright tonight, but I'm not going to rush out to buy their CD. Their singer and their guitar player make for an interesting set, with all their running around and crazyness.
The reason I went though, was for Plus 44. I never got see Blink, but now at least I've seen 2 out of 3 of the members, and baby, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. They played the entire album, plus their christmas song. I wish the set had been longer, but what else can they do with only one CD?
Mark was hilarious and exactly what I was hoping for. He made a joke about Travis playing the whole tour with one arm, and Shane playing the whole tour with one ball. Uproarous laughter ensued. They sounded pretty incredible. Mark and Craig make a good singing duo.
So there it is, a very good show.

That's not the first time I've heard them, not even the first time I've heard them live. I have one of their CD's. There is just not a lot in the way of melody in their music, and that's kind of an important component of pop punk.
hey, you're not cory!
12-22-2006, 12:14 AM
I dunno, The Matches are just so creative and when you say "it seems like a whole bunch of noise thrown together" is where there appeal is. I like that you can hear each members personal contributions in the music.
If it weren't for the fact that their first cd was obviously Blink influenced I'd easily say The Matches > Blink-182.
(And for the record "Decomposer" pwns AVA and +44, on top of the last 3 blink cds a ridiculously large amount.)

Only caught like 4 or 5 of their songs. They were terrible. Aaron is a poor singer and the sound quality was just not very good at all. Their songs are just not catchy and poorly constructed. No one really seemed to be into them. It was their second show ever.

Encore:
Yule Be Sorry (Ken Vasoli, Aaron Gillespie, Max Schneider)
Rocks Tonic Juice Magic [Saves The Day cover] (Ken Vasoli, Max Bemis, Aaron Gillespie, Max Schneider)
First just Mike came out and played "The Drama Summer" on electric and Ken then came out to sing it, he even went down into the crowd. The rest of the set was just nonstop energy. Ken hit every note and even played guitar for 'Ready" surprisingly well. The two new songs they played sounded fantastic. Max came out to sing the little backing part at the end of "Ready." For the encore, Ken played guitar, some random dude named Max Schneider played bass and Aaron from Underoath/The Almost played drums for the Christmas song that Ken and Aaron wrote last Christmas called "Yule Be Sorry." Then Ken took bass, Max Schneider took guitar and Max of Say Anything came out with a guitar and they all covered "Rocks Tonic Juice Magic!" Incredible.
My only complaint was that TSL had some guy playing piano for their songs because a couple songs on the new album had piano on it. However, not only did play piano for all of their songs, but it overpowered the guitars way too much. It was kind of disenchanting to see that only Mike sang the harmonies (the guy on piano overpowered a lot of those with his harmonies too) because I was looking forward to seeing them pull of their trademark 3 part harmonies live. The sound was just off in general. The bass wasn't high enough, the guitars didn't blend too well, and the piano overpowered them and sounded cheesy. But overall, a very fun experience and a great Christmas present.

So, last night I traveled an hour to see the West Coast Winter Tour, featuring Jack's Mannequin, Head Automatica, The Audition, and We Are The Fury. The show sold out about a month in advance, so the room was completely packed.
We Are The Fury kicked off the show, which came as a surprise, because no had even mentioned them being on the show. Either way, their set was fun, and thy seemed to get everyone excited for the night ahead, even though I don't think most people knew who they were.
The Audition played second. I like them on CD, but they weren't great live. The singer claimed he was sick, so I suppose that could have been why. The crowd seemed to have a pretty split reaction.
Head Automatica played third, and as usual, they were great. They played a decent mix of new and old songs, and they had a lot of energy. You could Daryl had been playing shows with Glassjaw prior to this tour, because he was screaming a lot more than usual.
The only part of their set that was disappointing was that no one seemed to be into it, which was kind of strange. I've seen Head Automatica three times now, and they usually get a great reception.
By the time Jack's Mannequin came on, everyone was thoroughly excited. Most every was there to see them, and the whole room was packed.
Setlist:
"Holiday From Real"
"I'm Ready"
"Kill The Messenger"
"Miss Delaney"
"Last Straw"
"Mixed Tape"
"Lonely For Her"
"Rescued"
"Dark Blue"
"She Paints Me Blue"
"Punk Rock Princess"
"Bruised"
"Into The Airwaves"
Encore:
"La La Lie (West Coast Winter)"
"Message In A Bottle" (The Police cover)
"Made For Each Other"
The set started with "Holiday From Real" playing over the sound system, without the band actually playing. The band hit the stage part way through the song, to one of the loudest receptions I've ever heard (mainly girls screaming for Andrew). They finished out "Holiday From Real", and then went on to play "I'm Ready", "Kill The Messenger", and "Miss Delaney" from their album, Everything In Transit.
Andrew then spent a little bit of time talking about the world's current state, and how everyone needed to revert back to peace and love. He followed this by explaining the story behind, and playing the b-side, "Last Straw". For a b-side, everyone seemed to know the words.
The band then went on to play a handful of songs off of the album, including "Mixed Tape", "Lonely For Her", "Rescued", and "Dark Blue". Andrew then began to talk about his past, and how he had no regrets about anything in it. At this point, I had chills running through my body in anticipation of what I thought was about to happen, and... it did.
Andrew proceeded to play two songs from his Something Coporate days: "She Paints Me Blue", which he called the predecessor to "Dark Blue", and "Punk Rock Princess". It was amazing. I don't think I've ever seen a crowd so excited about any two songs, either.
The band finished their 'main set' with "Bruised" and "Into the Airwaves", before leaving the stage, knowing full well they would be enthusiastically brought back for an encore.
The encore started off with a slightly different version of "La La Lie", which Andrew said was the original, 'West Coast Winter' version. He then went on to say that they would be playing a cover of a song called "Message in a Bottle", but instead of saying who it was a cover of, he said that anyone who didn't know needed to 'do their reading'. (I had to ask my dad :-\, it ended up being the Police).
The night ended with the band playing "Made For Each Other". Halfway through the song, the lead singer of The Audition joined Andrew on stage to sing. At this point, Andrew dove into the crowd, knocking a camera from the security guard's hand, and began 'swimming' toward the back. He must have gone over a patch of girls, because he ended up falling on to the floor, where he continued to sing the song.
Once he got back on stage, Andrew introduced his band, letting each member do a solo. They then went on to finished the song, at the end of which, Andrew stood on top of his piano, bowed and said good night.
Overall, it was possibly the best set I've ever seen. Andrew's voice was spot-on, the band was amazing, Andrew interacted well with the crowd, they played every song off their album, and the set was never once boring. Oh, and seeing Andrew play two Something Corporate songs was more than I ever imagined. The thought had crossed my mind before the show, but I never thought it would actually happen.
-
So, it was well worth the hour drive out to Rochester, the hellacious ride home (snow was insane, couldn't see the road, etc.)
Oh, and just a note: My dad ended up being closer to the stage than I was, because he got invited up to the VIP balcony about halfway through the show, by the promoter of the show (who we've gotten to know pretty well). I was jealous.
And, one more think. I'm already calling Jack's Mannequin for best live performance of the year. Incredible.

I went to see Reuben last night. And it was an awesome night.
The doors opened late, and we got seriously cold, but who cares, it was going to be awesome, I got ticket 69 so blatently. And my friend bought her ticket on the day, and it was only ticket 114, so not many people were going evidently, was the Ski Lodge in Yeovil, and capacity is only 300 odd, but this was going to be a quiet gig. We got to the front barrier, and stayed there throughout the first two bands.
The first support band came on, the bassist was awesome, well he had a lovely bass, and the best shoes and trousers, I was in awe. And he was japanese, and sang in tune. heh laura funni. They had a keyboardist too, had a Roland keyboard, shame it sounded like a guitar, oh well. I thought they were awesome, loads of singing and lovely tunes. They did become samy after a while, but they were good, wish I knew who they were.
Then the other support band came on, after much waiting. Sucioperro. I had never heard of them, but they were pretty good, reminded me of Sigur Ros mixed with some punk band I'd heard. They were scottish and weird, couldn't understand what they were saying between songs, the sound man screwed up and the mics weren't working at the beginning, and the singer was a moody bastard, but he could play intricate stuff whilst singing so it was pretty good. I liked them in any case.
Then Reuben graced the stage, the drummer was so cute with lovely new tattoos. The bassist looked lovely. But what could be said for the singer, well he was wearing a hospital throw gown thing, with only boxers underneath, not so hot. But it was funny. They played an awesome set, were really nice guys, and I got pushed back into the pit. They didn't play Freddy Kreuger or Stux, but oh well, they played stuff off the new album, racecar is racecar backwards, which in all honesty was the only one I'd heard before hand, really. I got a few elbows in the kidneys in the pit, and got headbutted in the process too. But was really fun. They were very very good, was an awesome night.
Brian, I am very jealous you get to see Converge and Mastodon in one gig. Man that would have been awesome. But I may be seeing them in July. :o

Wow, it's been so long since I reviewed a concert. I've seen a lot of good ones lately too.
Anyway, last night I saw the "Snacksidents Happen" Tour featuring Set Your Goals, Just Surrender, and Fireworks. Dead Hearts And Where We Hide played as well.
Where We Hide kicked off the show. It was only there second show, but they've been so awesome both times. They played five original songs (all they have), and a cover of Saves The Day's "You Vandal". I hope to see this band stick around a while, because Buffalo could use more good bands.
Check 'em: http://myspace.com/wherewehideny
(btw, I'm pretty sure they got there name from the Marathon song, so major points for that)
Fireworks played second. Only about half the crowd was into them, but they were enjoyable. The sound wasn't really good, but from what I've heard of them on recording has been really solid.
Just Surrender played third, and as usual, they were really good. The sound levels were way too high, though. :-\
The fourth band to play was local favorite Dead Hearts, and as always, their set was mad fun. Pretty much everyone in the crowd was going off, and there was a great vibe the entire time. Definitely set the stage perfectly for Set Your Goals.
Set Your Goals closed out the night, and while I only know the songs off the Reset EP, I had a lot of fun. They played most of Mutiny!, from what I could tell, plus two songs from the EP, and three covers.
I'm not quite sure what the cover was that they played during their set, but for the encore they played a Lifetime song (can't remember which one) and a Jawbreaker cover ("Do You Still Hate Me?"). I did my first ever stagedive during the Lifetime cover (:p), and overall, the whole set was a blast.
Their encore did contain the most disappointing moment of the entire.
"Okay, we're going to play a couple covers. How many people here have heard of a band called The Movielife?"
*dead silence*
"Okay, I guess we won't play that one then."
At least they made up for it, but still... how could no one know the Movielife.
Oh well, show ruled.

My Warped Tour review (and an excuse to bump this thread):
Okay, so yesterday I went to Warped Tour in Buffalo. The line-up was admittedly weak, and the tickets as expensive as I can remember them, but Warped is always a good time, so I went anyway.
I arrived at ~11:30, and was just in time to see All Time Low open on the main stage. They played a solid set, although I spent most of it just listening to them while trying to work out a plan as to which bands to see.
Next on the main stage was Circa Survive. I'm not really into this band too much, and they're usually boring live, but today was probably the best I've seen them. With that being said, I only watched 15 minutes of their set before going to catch some of K-os.
K-os played on one of the smaller stages. He was entertaining, but didn't get much of a crowd. I watched about half of his set, including 'hit' single "Sunday Morning", before heading off to see Bayside on the main stage.
Bayside was enjoyable, but it was probably one of the weaker performances I've seen from them. They played too many songs off their newest album, and seeing as I haven't heard that album, it was kind of hard to get into their set. Still good, though.
Next up was Chiodos on the main stage. I watched about 15 minutes of their set, which was alright, and then went to see The Spill Canvas on one of the smaller stages.
Upon seeing The Spill Canvas, who started a few minutes after Chiodos, I realized that this must be the weakest 40 minutes of the whole day. Chiodos was average, and The Spill Canvas was just bad. It might have something to do with the fact that I've never had the opportunity to see them headline a show, but The Spill Canvas always seems to play a weak setlist, and they never even bust out the acoustic guitar. The highlight of their set was a new song that they apparently released on a new EP. I don't know the name of it, but it was the only song that sounded remotely good in the 15 minutes I spent watching them.
After The Spill Canvas, I headed back to the main stage to see Poison The Well, The Starting Line, and Tiger Army.
Poison the Well was good, but played too many new songs.
The Starting Line was excellent as always, and played a really good mix of songs. Definitely one of the best bands of the day.
Tiger Army was weird. For some reason, the sound seemed to be too low for their set, compared to the other bands, but it was still a pretty good set.
After Tiger Army, I watched (some of) the ''Energizer Band'', who was voted to play an extra 10 minutes: Cute Is What We Aim For. I've seen them like 10 times (they're from here, and have played on many good shows), so I only watched for like 20 minutes before going elsewhere, but they were actually better than the last few times I've seen them. Maybe sharing the stage with acts like New Found Glory and Bad Religion was enough to sober them up a bit.
Next, I went to see The Matches. I watched most of their set, and ended up being super disappointed. Way too much new stuff, and the sound on the particular stage was really poor. I stayed long enough to hear "Sick Little Suicide" though, so that at least left me in a good mood.
After the Matches, I went back to the main stage to find I was a couple minutes late for New Found Glory. The reason: CIWWAF did not play the extra ten minutes (whether out of respect for NFG, or just oversight [more likely]), meaning that NFG was able to takeover the extra time. This turned out to be quite a bonus, and New Found Glory made the best of it. They are one of my favorite live bands ever, and this set was no different. Probably the best band all day.
Following New Found Glory, Killswitch Engage started up on the main stage. I'm not a big fan of the band, but I decided to watch them for 15 minutes. Surprisingly enough, KsE was actually pretty good, although not good enough to keep me from seeing Big D.
Big D And The Kids Table played the same stage as The Matches, meaning the sound was likely to be horrible, and it was. Their set was okay, although I only knew a few songs. "LAX" was enough to make it worth it.
After Big D, I met up with a couple friends for a short while, and headed off with them to see The Toasters, a band I had not planned to see. We showed up about halfway through their set, due to confusion over the "Hurley" Stage and "Hurley.com" stage, but we still managed to see what turned out to be a very fun 3 or 4 songs.
After The Toasters, I returned to the main stage for four straight bands.
First up was Paramore back at the main stage. They played a really good set, and I knew most of the words (because my brother listens to them non-stop).
Flogging Molly played next, and they were great. I only knew about half the songs, but it was well worth it. They got a great response, and their set was one of the more fun ones all day.
After Flogging Molly came Coheed And Cambria. I wasn't as impressed with them as I have been in the past, but they were still pretty good.
The last of the four straight main stage acts was Bad Religion. I saw them three years ago at Warped, but wasn't able to fully appreciate them, because I hadn't truly gotten into them yet. Today, however, I knew more or less every song, out side of the new album, and they were fantastic. Why they didn't get to headline the main stage is beyond me.
I returned to one of the side stages next to see Gallows. I'd heard a lot of good things about this band, so I decided to check them out. They didn't get much of a response, but I thought they played a pretty solid set.
Next up was ~20 minutes of As I Lay Dying at the main stage. They were alright, although the one time I saw them headline in a club was much more enjoyable.
I was supposed to see Throwdown next, but apparently the lineup had been switched at some point during the day, so I missed them. Instead, I went to see Hawthorne Heights back at the main stage. Their ste was pretty good, but among the 9 times I've seen them, I can't say it was among the best.
Finally, I returned to the stage with the really bad sound to see my final band of the evening, Boys Like Girls. It was a choice between them or Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and seeing as RJA was really mediocre the one time I saw them, I opted for Boys Like Girls. Turns out, I made the right decision.
Boys Like Girls played a really good set, despite the poor sound, and almost total darkness on stage (for some reason, they didn't turn on the lights for them until the last song and a half). They received what I thought was a really good reception, and it seemed like everyone was singing along. It's kind of amazing to me that this band has gotten so big, as less than a year ago, I saw them headline a show in front of no more than 20 people. Either way, good band, good end to a great night.
So, that was my experience at Warped Tour 2007. 23 bands, 6 stages, 9+ hours.
If anyone bothers to read this... cool.

I made a quick post in the community thread about this, but...
Tonight I saw Fall Out Boy play a secret show in a 300 person capacity room. They played under the name "Schrute Farms"
The show was a ****ing blast. Seriously one of the most fun nights of my life. Fall Out Boy - 15,000 scream 12-year-olds + stage dives = amazing.
Anyway...
Four Year Strong opened the show. They were sweet, but only a fraction of the people knew them. Nothing real notable, but definitely a sweet band, and one to watch out for in the future.
Fall Out Boy, or "Schrute Farms", played next. They only played songs from Take This To Your Grave (+a Pantera cover, featuring Keith from ETID). Basically, it was a night of stage dives, singalongs, and general insanity. I came home covered in sweat, mixed with a little blood, tears, and cake frosting.
Good times.
Edit - As a side note, I saw them last night in Rochester, at an arena, playing mostly new songs. No comparison.

Hey guys,
so I went to NOFX last friday for the first time ever. They've come here several times before but the last time was in 2003 and I couldn't go.
The sound was great, the jokes too, but Melvin had diarrhea (or so they said) and you could see he was pretty sick, he even puked several times and left the show in ambulance but he played for almost the whole 2 hours the show lasted.
Anyway the playlist was pretty good, but for one thing it was the best show I've ever been to.
Fat Mike said after they had played like 4 songs: Do you know how long have we been coming to spain? It's been 18 years coming here to play shows. And this song is also 18. And so they played The Decline. All of it! It was incredible. I can't even express the feeling you get when you are there with a band playing live your favorite song ever... So yeah, first time I see NOFX and they play The Decline, f'ucking awesome. Also, here's the playlist:

3 gigs, 3 days.
Friday night my band played in The Orange Box, in Yeovil.
http://www.myspace.com/hiahs
We were ok, but hardly anyone turned up, we had another ska band supporting us, they're really fun, but they're not very good, but always a good laugh. I wouldn't pay to see them. Good thing we didn't have to.
Saturday night my band played again in one of the local pubs, a lot of people were there and I was assuming pub gigs weren't going to be very good, but a lot of friends turned up and it was great fun.
Sunday night my band played again, with Chase Long Beach and Fandangle.
The first band on were Remains and they were terrible, the singer had the worst haircut I have ever seen, and the worst arrangements of clothes aswell.
The second band were an all girl band Electric Ladyland and they were pretty good, but they had a missing member and a new drummer, meaning all their drum parts were boring as hell, and their songs didn't have much variation, but their singing had real tight harmonies and that was good.
The we came on and everyone loved us. Heroes In A Half-Shell everyone.
The band on afterwards were The Mirettes and they were pretty good, played well, but they lacked something I can't say what. And they played Rhianna - Umbrella, which made me want to die.
Chase Long Beach were frickin awesome. Their horn section was so tight and just amazing. Loved them.
Fandangle are so great. The singer had a bad leg so he had to sit down and play/sing. They were awesome. Made everyone do the hoe down during one song, it was great. Real good fun.
AWESOME NIGHT.
my band opened up for the flatliners last saturday, and now they are going on tour with NOFX. I almost feel famous... almost...

Sic Transit
Luca
Millstone
Limousine
Sowing Season
You Won't Know
Jesus Christ
I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don't
Degausser
I only got their albums after I saw them but that's what I know they played, nothing else from DE but prob a couple more from The Devil And God. Nothing from YFW

yeaah coheed is such a good live band, really good for big venues and festivals too which is brilliant. jimmy i love but didn't dig too much last time i saw them (i was sleep deprived, it was main stage of reading fest, bound to be bad). the starting line i haven't seen for years....didn't know they were still going!
tonight i went to see the slackers. SUCH a good band. mmm glen and vic's voices are just awesome together. ahhh i love that band!

I thought it was a good show actually, I mean take away the 5billion pre-teen girls that were there to see TBS and I thought it was quite good. Armor for Sleep was meh, UnderOAth was phenominal, and Taking Back Sunday was suprisingly good, I really wish I could've seen TBS pre- Louder Now.
TSL was alright. Is the lead singer double jointed in his elbows or something? Becuase whenever he reached out his elbows bent in, and it was wierd.

it's been a while since I've gone to a show since I've been so busy with school and such, last concert I saw was The Recieving End of Sirens headlining and playing with Envy on the Coast and a few other bands back in October. The show was so good, Envy on the Coast really are amazing live and they never seem to **** up a note or lyric. TREOS really did put up an amazing show and I never heard of them prior to the gig.

I heard TREOS put on a really good show.
Emery, Mayday Parade, As Cities Burn, Pierce the Veil, and Cry of the Afflicted are all going on tour. I really want to see ACB, and Emery is great live.

I've seen TREOS four times. They've been kind of hit or miss. A couple time they were great, and a couple times they were kind of boring. I think it kind of depended on what kind of setlist they played.

it was mixed from new things to old. The show was in the city so the crowds always awesome.
