I can't skank/don't know how/have never tried.
2-stepping is hard to suck at
2-stepping is mad fun. And you can't really suck too bad at it, seeing as everyone does it a little different.
Same with skanking.
Haha, yeah I guess I put it wrong, just can't always get it right, as the way that I wanna do it. I need to practice but there isn't a room in my house that has enough space.
I could practice outside, but I just moved way outta the way, and my new neighbors down here will be like  and will think I'm weird <.<
Its a lot of fun though when everyone is going crazy and 2-stepping though, not where people stand in place and do it. They have to be moving around and running into people, and getting knocked around.

Like I said, I've never tried so :-\
Put on some ska and try it. It's not that hard. :p

Oh, I see. It's the same with me.
I two-step and skank through my house though, becuase I'm weird like that.

I might not be able to get a driv to the PTW show cause it's a Thursday and that's effing lame. Unless i go even further to see them on Friday. Or go to Quebec to see them on Saturday.. Frenchies galore

Luckily, my parents are completely fine with me going to weekday shows in Buffalo, so I rarely miss a good show.

I miss good shows a lot. Well, however often we even get good shows. I want to go to the ToC tour but it's too much money and it's a Thursday so I won't be able ot get there probably. I just want to go to see Thursday.. Maybe they'll tour their new album anyways.

I'm hoping to see Thursday when they tour again. I've heard rumors about them playing in Rochester in April, but I haven't found anything to confirm it. The rumored date is a Saturday though, so I really hope it's true.
I'm seeing Taste of Chaos on March 10th. Should be awesome.

I personally skipped out Taste of Chaos willingly...only good bands were Thrice, As I lay Dying and Receiving end of Sirens. Not worth around 40 dollars in my book. But this tuesday I'm goin to go see Maylene and the Sons of disaster and in a week and a half Comeback Kid is playing here- day after that is Bleeding Through and Haste the Day. Im pumped :naughty:
ToC is much too expensive, even though we get Thursday.

Taste of Chaos got moved to a different venue here. The venue also happens to be way to small. It's already over-sold, and that doesn't include the space needed for a second stage and all of the merch stands.
So basically, ToC is more or less going to suck now. I hate when there is no room to move at a show.
-
But, on a positive note, I saw No Use For A Name and The Suicide Machines last night. It ruled. :D

TASTE OF CHAOS 2006
Last Conservative
Local band. They're alright, although they didn't really fit in with the other bands. I missed their first couple songs.
Greeley Estates (2nd Stage)
I like these guys a lot. I had forgotten that they were playing, so it was a pleasant surprise when they took the stage. They only played 4 songs though, becuause they were a second stage band.
Funeral For A Friend
Enjoyed these guys a lot. They played a good mix of songs, and they had a lot of energy.
The Smashup (2nd Stage)
They were alright. I'm not too familiar with them.
As I Lay Dying
They were pretty good, but I ended up getting pretty beat up during their set. I kept getting hit by crowd surfers :-\
Adair (2nd Stage)
These guys were actually quite good. I only know a couple of their songs, but their set was great.
Story of the Year
Awesome. They had so much energy, and they played a lot of good songs. At one point the lead singer threw a half-full garbage can into the crowd. :p
The Confession (2nd Stage)
- see "The Smashup" -
Atreyu
They were pretty good. I knew most of their songs, and musically, they were solid. Their fans are annoying though. :-\
The Receiving End Of Sirens (2nd Stage)
Great. I like these guys a lot, and was happy to get to see them. The only disappointment was that they didn't get to play longer.
Thrice
Awesome, of course. I liked all their songs a lot. I would have liked to have seen them play more of their older music, as more than half their set was from Vheissu. Either was they rule though.
I left just as Street Drum Corps came on, because I didn't care to see them or The Deftones. Either way, it was an awesome night. :D

Ferret Under The Gun Tour: 3/18/06
The Banner
I saw these guys about a month ago. I don't know their music that well, but they put on a decent show. The crowd wasn't too into them though.
Scarlet
I'm not familiar with them, and apparently neither was the rest of the crowd. Everyone stood still for the whole set.
Also, they had a smoke machine going the whole time, which ended up setting off the fire alarm. Of course, no one even bothered to react when it went off. The kid I was standing next to yelled "Fire!", but no one cared.
Zao
I only know a handful of songs by these guys, but they were pretty good. The crowd was really into them, and there were more people thre for them than there were by the time Remembering Never and Madball took the stage.
Remembering Never
These guys were awesome. I only knew the songs off of Women And Children Die First, but it was great.
Everyone was going crazy when they played their last breakdown ("your dissection is a small price to ****ing pay for a lifetime of ignorance"). It was so awesome.
The lead singer was complaining about the barrier though. And with good reason. There is no need for a barrier at a hardcore show. It sucked.
Madball
So awesome. I only knew maybe half their songs, but everyone was moving and singing along the whole time. The energy was awesome. Once again, the barrier was an annoyance, but it was still a great set.
brandon Ill just describe it for you when I get back ;)
and ill run 80 miles to kill you :)

No. Most of the shows I go to are $10-$12, and my parents help out with paying for shows once in a while.
My family and I are not rich though.
Not really :-\
10 bucks a show is good. That's about the equvilent of here, maybe more. Depends where it's at. Opera House ftw.
yeah but look at all the shows....
20 shows lined up, that's $200.

Last night I went to see Reggie And The Full Effect. There were two other "bands" listed on the show, but it turned out that they were both just different acts of Reggie And The Full Effect. I didn't know that was going to be the case, so I was really surprised.
Fluxation
This was the first act. It was just two guys but it was quite amusing. They were dressed as mimes, and began by miming the lyrics of an R. Kelly song. They then told a few jokes, played a couple songs and left the stage.
Reggie And The Full Effect
Awesome. They played a ton of songs, and I had a lot of fun.
Common Denominator
The third act. Everyone in the band was wearing these bizarre green and red wigs, and their faces were painted. They kept spitting fake blood in the crowd as well.
When the lead singer took the stage, he was wearing just a oair of shorts, and the rest of his body was covered in "blood".
They only played one or two songs, but it was wild. The lead singer, (still covered in blood), ended up jumping into the crowd and moving around in the pit while he was singing.
Overall, awesome show. One of the most entertaining shows I've seen in a while, and well-worth the $8.

So, last night I saw 30 Seconds To Mars, Aiden, Emanuel.
Emanuel
These guys were awesome. The crowd wasn't really into them, but they still played a great set. I'll be looking forward to seeing them again with Taking Back Sunday
Aiden
Fun set as usual. Some guy yelled for them to get off the stage. The lead singer called him a pussy, and offered him $100 to get up on stage, say it to his face, and try to do his job. Of course, the guy didn't.
30 Seconds To Mars
I really don't know that much if their music, but they were pretty good. The place was completely sold out, and people seemed really into it.
They played a couple songs that I really like though ("The Kill" and "Attack", I think), so that was good enough for me.

Holy crap I have never had so much fun during a show. They were so crazy. I knew most of the stuff that they played but they played a new song I didn't know. They only played about 5 songs but they have a ton of energy. During their last song they had a bunch of people back stage come on the stage and there was at least 15 people on the stage. They were throwing little plastic eggs and shooting silly string at everyone in the pit. Then they brought out this little plastic raft threw it in the pit and were stage diving on it, it was so tight.
Acceptance
Well they were good but I thought they were lower then my expectations I think I thought they would be better then they were. They had quite a bit of energy but the crowd wasn't really into them very much. Also, Jason's mic was really low and you couldn't hear him very well.
Panic! at the Disco
Overall they were dissapointing. Other than Brendon the band had like no energy at all they were just kind of standing around. Brendon had a cold too so his voice sounded pretty dang bad. Spencer almost seemed pissed to be there and he didn't want to be playing. I enjoyed there set still because I love this band but they only played like 5 songs. The coolest part was during their last song Brendon stage dove right on top of me and he almost broke my shoulder cause my arm was in the air but it was still sweet regardless.
The Academy Is...
INCREDIBLE, they were so amazing it blew me away. They had SOOO much energy and the pit was so intense. They played every song off of Almost Here and they played The Fever and Pour Yourself a Drink. Will played the acoustic guitar on Down and Out and they switched between the slow acoustic version of it to the album version of it in the middle of the song. They played The Fever with the whole band not just the acoustic guitar. It was an amazing set.
Overall the night was incredible and I had a great time. It was a lot of fun and I got a really sweet shirt haha.
Next show for me is on Easter:

Against Me!:
I'll start off by saying the biggest disappointment of the night was the short set these guys were limited to, 40 minutes. But these guys were great still. Just like last time it was very simple on stage, small drum set, simple white lights the whole set, basic through and through. Played a good mix of stuff off all 3 full lengths and some stuff off the EPs too because I didn't recognize a couple of the songs. More skewed towards stuff off Searching for a Former Clarity as it's their latest album, but still a good mix. Well-balanced. Totally fun sing-alongs and good energy and crowd interaction. I'm glad I saw them as headliners last time because they are definitely good enough for it.
I'll also mention now instead of later, at the end of the show I was picking up some vinyls from their merch booth, and Andrew (bass player) was chilling and having a beer and meeting fans so I got to meet him, talk to him and get him to sign one of the vinyls I picked up. Totally ****ing sweet. Chill guy too. I'll get a pic of it up soon too.
Alkaline Trio:
Oh man, so so so much better than last time. I mean a lot of it was that it wasn't at a **** venue this time, but Alkaline Trio also definitely thrives as the headliner, not the opener. They started right off the bat with Goddamnit, and played it in track order start to finish, as expected. Somewhere in there Dan played a few songs on guitar and Matt on Bass, but I forget which. Then Matt played 2 acoustic songs by himself, then Dan did 2, then Dan and Derek did another couple songs. Then Matt came back out with his acoustic and Dan got an electric Bass and Derek went back to drums and they played a song like that. Then they got the regular instruments all out and played another full set, basically. Lots of Crimson but lots of older stuff as well. Tons of great tracks and some highlights included their Queen of Pain cover, Private Eye and Hell Yes. They closed with This Could Be Love, and then started a cover of some song no one there knew before going into Radio and closing with that. All in all it was just under 2 hours. No real breaks either, but the acoustic set in the middle was a nice rest for the crowd. Lots of stamina with all the guys though, and despite the fact that the crowd were being douches at points they put on a terrific show. Basically it kicked *** and I don't know if I'll see a better show by them. But I can always hope.

MARATHON!
To be honest, none of the other bands that played are even worth mentioning. They were all locals, and pretty good, but they couldn't touch Marathon.
Tonight was Marathon's last show in Rochester, and their fourth-last show ever. There was a pretty sizable crowd for the venue (probably 125-150 people), and the energy was unbelievable. Every single person was singing every word to every song, and people were jumping off the stage and dancing around the whole time.
Marathon played a good majority of their music, and the whole set was great. During "I Don't have A Dancing Problem", the lead singer went into the crowd and started jumping around in the pit. Overall, it was an amazing show.
(The only negative to the entire show was getting kicked in the face by a stagediver during the second last song, leaving me with a bloody lip)
Anyway, I'll be looking forward to catching their final show ever on May 20th in Syracuse. It'll be a bit of a drive (2+ hours), but it'll be well worth it. It's hard to believe that such an amazing band is breaking up, but I'm glad for the opportunity to have had a chance to see them twice, and I can't wait to see them one final time. :D :(

Nightmare Of You
So, last night I went to see Nightmare of You. When I first heard these guys, I wasn't too into them, but when I learned they would be playing here, I decided to give them another try, "just for the hell of it". Well, as it turns out, I liked them a lot more, so I decided to go.
The show was really pretty good. I only know the songs from their EP, but they played 4 out of 5 of them, so I was happy. They only played about ten songs total, but it was still a really good show.
The other bands that played were Damiera, The Frameup, and Aside The Hero. I think they're all local. They were all pretty good as well.
Anyway, Catch 22 tomorrow, and Anberlin/Emery Wednesday :D :D :D
How you can afford to go to all these gigs is beyond me. I've got Give It A Name festival in 2 weeks, which I'm hoping should be good. I have to convince my friend that Say Anything are better than Taking Back Sunday though so I can see them.

hmm should i post about some shows i've seen? well that i remember i've see kincaide, Ruckus(3 or 4x), Theset, thebleedingalarm(2x), Stutterfly, Push for Protection(3 or 4x), hardball, ghost cried murder, remember august, Glory Nights, A last goodbye.. and i think thats it. i only have write-ups on a couple shows but i'm gonna post them
my first local show(march 18th 2005)
i went to an awsome concet last night. first was ruckus a band from my own penticton. but before i talk about them i just have to say i met the guitarist dustin 21 times. awesome, huh? i'm on camera. and i met the one guitarist for thebleedingalarm he was awsome. damn good bouncer. anyways. Ruckus was good awsome guys. singer was hot*i'm bi get over it* too bad this was his tryout and he failed.haha. he had a cool hairdo. they played better live than the live recordings they have up atm. it was mostly covers cause they are workin on songs right now. then there was a short break and i still hadn't gone in the pit. but then Push for protection came on. george ****in ruled. they played thier own songs after anoucing a cd coming out during the summer(supposed to be tons of shows during the summer) and they played awesomly. good sound. good job brett.near the end of thier set i was in the pit a couple times. and then te headliners came. thebleedingalarm. i was in the pit steady for pretty much the whole set. my hair was sooo poofy and curly by the end then i noticed alittle before the bleeding alarm a bunch of people from my school showed up. the pit was awesome though. if someone fell down everyone stopped and helped the fallen up before starting again. you get helped up by someone you give them a slap on the shoulder and mosh again. it was fun. first pit experiance first real concert. overall awesome. then after the show i hung around a bit talked to some guys got signage from 4 members of thebleedingalarm on some random paper i found at the show. and went home with good memories. awesome show guys and thanks for dumping water on us. it was ****in hot in the pit.
now some other ones. more organized ones.....
Ruckus/Push For Protection/Kincaide/Hardball/Glory Nights: Penticton, BC May 5th 2005
First up was hardball. put on a good show sound was good. not much of a pit till near the end though. and the guys were goofing off doin the "windmill" style mosh with eachother and kicking eachother in the balls when they were down inbetween songs. funny stuff. Hardball i'd say was a hardcore type band. they sounded pretty close to the recordings. check 'em out at http://www.purevolume.com/hardball
Next was Ruckus. I had seen them once before where i met Dustin (the guitarist/singer) 21 times in one night. long story. anyways. they played a song in memory of a friend who recently died in a car crash. didn't have a name for it yet so they just called it "car crash" they didn't play "margarets afraid of bears" unfortunatly. they did play "shotgun wedding shotgun" it was about shotgun.lol. they played a cover of "bob" by NOFX and then went on to play their last song "ADD fan minus the pumpkin" was a good show you can check them out at http://www.purevolume.com/ruckuscanada
but they are bad recordings.(link doesn't work anymore seems they may have broken up)
Next was a band made up of people that gradded from my school. Formelly Acronym and now Push for Protection. they anouced about the new ep coming out in summer and went right into the show. the only songs i really recognized were "only to fall" and "goodbye (to whom it may concern)" the rest was new stuff
http://www.purevolume.com/pushforprotection
next were the 2nd to headliners. Kincaide came on with an almost haunting keyboard intro. then they went straight into a heavy song and the pit went crazy. i'll tell you all my injuries at the end. after another song they asked if anyone in the audiance was a natural blond. then they introduced "murderers prefer blonds" and went straight into the song. the rest is a bit of a blur cause i got squished.
http://www.purevolume.com/kincaide
Then it was time for the headliners. Glory nights took the stage and they singer popped out of the audiance and jumped on stage.they talked abit about how they finally get to play in Penticton. even though it wasn't in order or anything they ended up doing the whole EP "we're all the same down here"(good cd btw)
http://www.purevolume.com/glorynights
(you can listen to the whole EP here)*still maybe*
It was an awsome show and everyone did a good job. it all sounded good and everyone got the crowd moving. overall my injuries are a hard one to the leg, ankle stepped on 3 times, achilies tendon stepped on(**** that hurt), elbowed in the eye, kneed in the eye, punched and elbowed on front and back of shoulder multiple times, punched and elbowed in throat and rammed in gut and chest many times. i did walk away with kincaides new cd though. its good so far lost my toonie in the pit so i couldn't get the demo with it(****it). and that was the show over all i'd give it
9/10 cause it was only my seconed show
Ruckus/Push for Protection/Remember August/The Archer and The Eagle.May. 22nd
Ruckus was up first. they did an awesome job. kinda hard to hear dustins voice though. Before the show dustin was like,"i know you your matt. M-A-T-T that spells matt." and on his way back from the bathroom hes said," T-T-A-M. that spells matt backwards matt is a backwards guy."lol. then i met him again and he introduced me to a robot. i asked if it was robot jesus and it turned out it was. Shweeeet. anyways back to the show they did very well.
Push for protection was up next. they did a good job again. announced that the EP is 90% done. i saw ian had a nice new zack wylde epi for the show. not much to say really
Next was remember august. they did good. singer was good. bassist had a sparkely bass. and everyone but the one guitarist looked like 14-15 year old boys.lol. i got the cd and 3 pins from them. i was 2 bucks off from getting a shirt(damn)
Last but not least was the archer and the eagle. good band. good guys. good music. great sound. lots of energy. not much else to say.
since the pit was weak i only got 3 injuries. a solid elbow to the chest, a scratched eyeball, and a solid liver shot thanks to johns flailing. well thats it for now.
and after that i seemed to have stopped doing write ups. which is too bad some real good concerts happened
i'm going to a theset/glory nights concert at the end of the month so i'll do a write-up and post it for you all
kincaide came out with a new cd apparently listen to some new tracks at

Last night I went to see Catch 22, the Loved Ones, the Tossers, and the Flatliners. The show was really good, but it was a bit disappointing, because all four bands had to cut their sets short because of another show that started at 9:30.
The Flatliners
These guys were really good. I'd never heard any of their music before, but I liked them a lot.
The lead singer made some comment about how it was cool to see so many people come out for a show on a Wednesday, even though yesterday was Tuesday. But, they were Canadian, so I'll give him a break. :p
The Tossers
They only played about four songs, three of which were more like Irish ballads than Irish Punk songs. This band has a number of good punk songs, but they didn't play them. :(
The lead singer picked up on the fact that the Flatliners messed up the day, so when he made a similar comment, he put a lot of emphasis on the word "Tuesday".
The Loved Ones
I've come to the conclusion that this band rules. They were so good, even though they only got to play 5 or 6 songs.
Catch 22
They were better the first time I saw them. Their setlist was majorly disappointing. They played 10-12 songs, 6 of which I really enjoyed:
"On And On And On"
"Chin Up"
"9mm And A Three Piece Suit"
"Mowtown Cinderella"
"Wine Stained Lips"
"Keasbey Nights"
There might have been one more. I can't remember. The rest were meh. They didn't play nearly enough from Keasbey Nights. Not even "1234 1234" :( :(
It was still a pretty good show.

The Classic Crime
These guys were pretty good. I hadn't heard of them before, but I enjoyed them.
The Fold
I liked these guys as well. They had some pretty catchy songs.
Jonezetta
I was kind of zoned out for a lot of their set. I was really lito them. They were okay though.
Anberlin
Awesome. I would have liked to have heard more from Blueprints For The Black Market, but either way they put on a really fun show.
Emery
They were great as well. It was my third time seeing them, and I had an awesome time. The pit was fun, and they played an awesome selectioin of songs.
Overall, fun night.

The Fall Of Troy
As most of you know, I really do not dig this band. But I heard their live show is pretty interesting so I watched them. Overall, they were okay. Admittedly Thomas Erak is good at guitar but in my opinion, it doesn't fit with their music very well. Just because he shreds (which like I said, he does, he's a spectacular guitarist) and all the scene kids go, "Oh, Thomas Erak is sooo good at guitar," it just doesn't work with that whole poppy/spazzy blood brothers thing they go for. Anyway, I know they didn't play "F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X." but their new song called something along the lines of "As Creation Does" sounded really neat actually. They played some song where everyone was singing along and for the final song, Erak came down into the crowd with mic to scream or something. Anyway, sorry I'm not more descriptive, but overall I'd give them a 6/10.
HORSE The Band
Incredible set. I had heard rumors about them playing drunk and putting on some crazy shows and they were pretty much confirmed. The keyboardist looks exactly like Napoleon Dynamite and the band members are pretty goofy. They played mostly stuff from the new album with plenty of goofy between song chatter. The keyboardist and guitarist are really good at their instruments and the vocalist goes pretty nuts. The pits were pretty intense and kids were freaking out everywhere around me. Anyway, they ended with "Cutsman" and **** went nuts for the breakdown. Fun and interesting set, I enjoyed it thoroughly. 8/10
Poison The Well
As most of you know, the reason I was at the show.
Zombies Are Good For Your Health
Turn Down Elliot
New Song
Punker (One of their new demos that got leaked)
Slice Paper Wrists
New Song
Crystal Lake
12/23/93
New Song
Botchla
Artist's Rendering Of Me
First off, I was kind of suprised and disappointed to find out that only about 1/4 or less of the kids were actually there for Poison The Well. I knew that there would be a lot of scene kids there for Fall Of Troy but I was hoping for a more massive Poison The Well fan base. I was about 2 rows of people away from the stage and the pits and pushing were not bad at all. About 3x less worse than HORSE the Band. But I enjoyed their set thoroughly nonetheless. Their guitars were really loud and Jason Boyer (replacement for guitarist Derek Miller who left the band a little while ago) and Ben Brown (replacement for bassist) Geoff Vegas played great. Jeff is actually a huge guy and he is extremely intense live. His screams were huge, his trademark spoken word parts were awesome and although his singing had suffered a little bit by the end, he nailed the notes well. Ryan (Primack, guitarist and original member) played awesome live, he did some amazing stuff with his guitar. I was actually pleasantly surpised by their set; although I would have liked to hear (and expected to hear more from) more from You Come Before You, particulary their softer songs, I thought they weren't going to play much old stuff at all so it was great to hear the older material, especially "Turn Down Elliot," didn't expect that. I guess they like the play the heavier stuff live. Their new songs sound really amazing, I don't know how to really explain it. Their more droning and although Jeff does more singing, the songs usually have really heavy parts where Jeff gets intense. Their alot like the demo songs ("Oceanbreast" particulary). Ending with "Artist's Rendering Of Me" was one of the most righteous experiences ever; every ****ing fan was singing along for the "I could never swallow your false ideals" part. "Slice Paper Wrists" was a real big crowd pleaser too, they slowed down the first breakdown part. "Zombies..." and "Crystal Lake" were super heavy and intense too. But alas, because of the lack of fanbase, our chants of "one more song" were in vain. But anyway, very pleasantly suprising set. Incredible experience. 9/10

Last night:
Suicide City
So I really hadn't heard much of their music, just a song off purevolume, and I wasn't sure what to expect. Well they were pretty hmmm 'weird' they were pretty lame, but man did they have some intense energy. It was just pathetic because the crowd wasn't really into them at all. I enjoyed their set though, it was okay.
Tokyo Rose
I enjoy listening to this band but I didn't routinely listen to them before the show. Well they sucked haha, they didn't have any energy at all and the singers mic was really low he wasn't singing loud at all and he sounded terrible. On their recordings his voice sounds really good, but he sounded very very annoying. Plus there was this group of about 5 kids in the pit that were being ****ing bitches so I was occupied with them for a while haha.
Taking Back Sunday
They took FOREVER to set up and it was pissing me off and by now I was pissed off because Tokyo Rose sucked and I was about to go insane on these kids. But then they finally came out and they were ****ing AMAZING. It was such an intense show and they had so much energy. Adam's mic skills are soooooo sweet haha. They made the show INCREDIBLE. I had a great time.

New Atlantic
I don't know much of their music as it is, but they played a lot of new songs. They were alright, but a bit boring.
Valencia
They were really good. I knew most of their songs, and they had a good amount of energy. The crowd wasn't digging it though, as most of the people at the show were there to see the next band...
Cute Is What We Aim For
Okay, I'll admit, I liked these guys the first couple times I saw them, but now, not so much. They old songs are still good, but the new stuff was bordering on horrible. The band, particularly the lead singer, seems caught up in the new found fame too.
Also, MTV was taping their entire set. Since when does a band with no albums or EPs get filmed for MTV.
And, to cap it all off, 4/5 of the crowd (about 400 people) left before the headliner, Punchline, even came on. Seriously, what the ****? If any band deserves the recognition that CIWWAF is getting, it's PUNCHLINE! They worked hard for years, and put out serveral excellent albums, and gotten no recognition compared to what Cute is getting without yet releasing an album.
Punchline
I love this band. Absolutely incredible, as usual. This was the sixth time I saw them, and they didn't disappoint whatsoever. They didn't seem at all concerned that almost everyone had left. They set was so much fun, and they played a perfect mix of old and new songs.
When they finished their set, everyone was calling for one more song. It took the band a second to respond to that call, because they said they weren't expecting it at all, even though they deserved it.
Overall, great show. Punchline showed yet again why they are such a great band. This band deserves a lot more recognition, and I hope that they start to get it. Even if they don't, I'll always be there to see them when they roll through town, because they've earned as much respect from me as almost any other band.
-
Oh, and just so everyone knows, Cute's set did have a bitter-sweet upside. They announced that they would be touring with JACK's MANNEQUIN!
In my opinion, Cute doesn't deserve to be in the same room with Andrew McMahon, but it doesn't matter. I'll do whatever I have to to get to this tour. It's awesome that Andrew McMahon is going to be playing shows again. :D :D

Hahaha, Fall Out Boy is 100x better than new Cute. At least Fall Out Boy still has some good music, and they actually had to work hard to get to the top. Cute has been a band for like two years at the most.
Panic! didn't have to work that hard to get to where they are, but they make better music than Cute.

Against Me!
This was my second time seeing them, and they were really good. I didn't know as many songs as I did last time I saw them, but I think it's because they played more songs from Searching For A Former Clarity, which I am not really too familiar with.
Either way, they were awesome.
Alkaline Trio
These guys really impressed me. As most of you know, I pretty much hated this band up until a couple months ago. I've grown to like them more over the past month or two, and tonight was enough for me to say that I know really like these guys.
They started out their ser by playing Goddamnit! in it;s entirety. That was probably the best par of the show, because knowing they would be playing the whole album, I listened to Goddamnit! serveral times over the last month.
After they had finished Goddamnit!, they played five acoustic songs in a row. The first two were done by Matt, the next two by Dan, and the last as an entire band. Even though I only knew 2 or 3 of these songs, it was definitely a cool way to mix things up, and give everyone a break.
They then went on and played a whole bunch more songs, including a lot of their singles/hits, so I was familiar with a fair amount of them at least. All in all, their set was about an hour and a half long (AM!'s was 40 minutes). They had an awesome stage set-up, that included three different banners, and a ton of awesome lighting effects. The one banner had three clocks on it, but when certain lights were put on it, the faces of the clocks became skulls. It was sick.
Overall, great show. Having not known what to expect from Alk3, I was very pleasantly surprised.

Black Clouds And Underdogs Tour
So, tonight I went to see the Black Clous and Underdogs tour featuring October Fall, From First To Last, Hawthorne Heights, All-American Rejects, and Fall Out Boy.
October Fall
These guys only played five song, but they were really good. I picked up their album a couple months ago, so I knew all the songs they played. Unfortunately, I think I was one of the few people who did. Most people seemed to have not a clue who they were. :-\
From First To Last
They were easily the worst band of the night. The sound for their set was really poor, and I could hardly hear Sonny at all. They played three olds songs, and four new. I didn't know the new songs as I've only listened to the new album twice. The three old songs, "Note To Self", "The One-Armed Boxer vs The Flying Guillotine", and "Ride the Wings of Pestilence", were alright, but I couldn't really follow them due to the fact that I wasn't able to hear Sonny.
Definitely a disppointment. They were much better last time I saw them, if only because I could hear them.
Hawthorne Heights
Awesome as always. This was my sixth time seeing them, and they were great. They played a good mix of old and new songs, and for the first time all night, the crowd actually got into it a bit.
All-American Rejects
Amazing. I was surprised at how good they were. They played an awesome selection of songs, and, being a radio band, were finally able to get full participation from the crowd.
Fall Out Boy
These guys were amazing as well. Their stage setup was pretty insane. They had pyrotechnics and everything. They played pretty much every song I wanted to hear, and a couple that I didn't really know (off of Fall Out Boy's Evening Out..., I'm guessing). They opened with "Our Lawyers Made Us...", and ended with "Dance, Dance" and "Saturday".
About half way through their set, this guy came out and had two girls come on stage. He then said something about how they were going to hit wiffle balls off his head, which they did. It was really weird, and totally pointless, but amusing.
Overall, this show was a lot of fun. The only downside was that it was an arena show, but it really had to be.
Arena shows are definately not as fun.
Sounds like a good time. Too bad about FFTL because they were fun live when I saw them.
October Fall ftw! I'm an old school fan, back when they only had a demo. I have the demo actually.

I don't know if this fits in the Pop-punk forum, but I just saw Dashboard Confessional this past saturday. It was a great show, especially because I was as close to the stage as you could get. The John Ralston Band opened, and they were good, but got boring quick, because no one knew the songs. There was a long wait between their set and Dashboard's, but it was worth it. I didn't notice at first, but during John Ralston's set, Chris Carrabba was standing off in the back, playing lead guitar for them. Also, Dan Bonebrake, Dashboard's former bassist, was there as well, playing for John Ralston.
It was labeled as a solo acoustic show, but Johnny Lefler was there, as well as a girl named Susan, who played the violin. Dashboard played about 20 songs, with 4 being off of A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar. They also played a song off their new album, which comes out June 26. They did covers of a Radiohead song, and a song off of The O.C. After he left the stage, everyone started chanting "en-core, en-core!", so he came back out and played the Best Deceptions, followed by Vindicated, with everyone from both bands playing. Then, they left, but everyone started chanting "Hands Down!", so he came out yet a second time with everybody, and played Hands Down. Vindicated and Hands Down were probably the two best songs of the performance. Overall, an excellent show.

Awesome local band. I've seen them three times, and they've always been great. All the national acts praised them.

Mechatama
Local. The only reason they were on the show is because one band dropped due to illness. Anyway, these guys were okay, but they didn't fit the show at all. They were a ska band. :p
One Dead Three Wounded
I've never really listened to these guys before, but they were so awesome. Argusbly the best band of the night.
Underminded
This was the band I was there to see, and they didn't disappoint. They only played like 7 songs, but they were awesome. They closed their set with "It's Kinda Like A Bodybag", my favorite Underminded song.
WHO NEEDS A BODYBAG?!
Folly
I'd never listened to these guys prior to last night either, but they were quite good. They were kind of unique in that some of their riffs sounded ska-influenced, even though the rest of the time they were just an awesome metalcore (kind of) band, with some really sweet screams. Either way, really good.
edit - This was my 100th show, and Folly was the 300th different band I've seen. :D

Take Action Tour
Tonight I went to see the Take Action Tour featuring Roses Are Red, Amber Pacific, Chiodos, The Early November, and Matchbook Romance.
Roses Are Red
I listen to these guys from time to time. Their set was pretty good, even though they only played like 6 songs, and not that many people seemed to know who they were.
Amber Pacific
I LOVE this band. They were amazing, and played an awesome set. I ended up buying a t-shirt*, and The Pssibility And The Promise after they played.
*I now have two Amber Pacific t-shirts, but $20 seemed like a pretty good deal for a shirt and a CD, so I figured "why not". Plus, the t-shirt is sweet looking. :p
Chiodos
I have come to a conclusion that every scenester on the planet loves this band. There were some many people who were just there to see these guys, it was crazy. Also, their fans have no idea what they're doing. People were hardcore-dancing the whole set, even though there were only a few breakdowns, so that was pretty lame.
But, Chiodos wasn't bad, but I'm not a huge fan of them. I like the EP I have by them, but the album I have isn't great. Either way, they played a surprisingly good set.
The Early November
Well, I'm pretty sure that at least two guys in this band were drunk. Aside from the fact that they pulled some pretty bizarre antics*, they didn't seem to be fully there.
They played a really good set though. They played a lot of songs I knew, and were pretty high energy.
*ex. The bassist came out in just his boxers, which ended up getting completely torn in the back. It was...um...interesting to say the least.
Matchbook Romance
This was my third time seeing them, and easily the best. This show was at a smaller venue than the other times I've seen them, and they seemed more connected with the crowd. They played a good mix of old and new songs, and mixed it up between high and low energy material.
Toward the end of the set, memebers from the other four bands came on stage. A couple guys from Chiodos and TEN looked pretty drunk at thispoint, and a few guys dove off the stage. It made for a good way to end an awesome show.
:D
Give It A Name 2006 - Saturday
Since it was the only day I went to, it'll be the only one I review.
Firstly, I'll get the rubbish bands out the of the way first. The Blackout and Silverstein really didn't impress me much, even though I have Silverstein's latest album and thought it was OK. Their type of music isn't the best to be listening to at the beginning of the day, but I guess it was enough to hype up some of the crowd. Classic Case were also not as good, but this was only because their set was too stale. I love Dress To Depress, but the songs were too slow and similar to get into, and there wasn't much showmanship going on either.
OK, whoever put Gym Class Heroes and Bayside on before Classic Case deserves to be slapped. GCH were brilliant, and a great little band to add some diversity to the festival. They played all the classics; "Taxi Driver", "Cupid's Chokehold", "Papercuts". They played a new song too which was pretty cool. Bayside were amazing as well, since their music was pretty heavy and fast, but they actually sung and didn't scream. Another good band to listen and dance to.
I missed Aiden for obvious reasons, but came back just in time for We Are Scientists. They are a really cool band, but tonight's performance was made worse because of the bad quality bass sound. Still, they pulled out some of their best songs, finishing with "The Great Escape", which I danced along to gladly. Keith Murray impressed me a lot as well with a fair bit of improvisation and his strong vocals.
Next was the band I came to this to see; Say Anything. They hit the stage, Max acted like a cocky son of a bitch, and went straight into "Belt". Oh my God! It was pure chaos, and easily the most watched band on the side stage. While every other band whored the crap out of each other, Max actually said "We're here with a lot of crap bands, but we came to see you guys". It was funny. They ended the set of ...Is A Real Boy classics with "Admit It!!!" after so many requests from the crowd (Including from me). It was so cool hearing that song live, I just went mental for them. Best band of the night by my standards.
Goldfinger were up next, and ran through all their most well-known hits as well, such as "Spokesman" and "Here In Your Bedroom". They played really well and showed up the crowd, even though they seemed a little out of place on a line-up like tonight's. But Brian Arthur was back, which was a good sign, and they just tore the place apart. Everyone was jumping.
In my opinion, Hundred Reasons got the short end of the stick tonight. Because while the side-stage played, they set up the main stage, and vice-versa. This band were headlining the side stage, and they had to get the crowd ready for Angels And Airwaves. I was one of the many kids waiting at the main stage for this band, but the UK rockers still played very well. Colin's voice was awesome, as he screamed, shouted and sung every note well. I didn't know too many of their songs though, because I hadn't listened to their older stuff in so long.
It wasn't long after this of course, when Angels And Airwaves hit the main stage. It was weird seeing Tom Delonge's band play third to last, but whatever. He was a different person on stage. Whereas at Blink-182 at the same venue 1 and a half year ago, he was quiet and not too active, he moved so much here. Some songs were just sung by him, and he was such a showman. Of course, the whole band played well though, even if their songs are a little boring (To me at least). During the set, Tom played "Down" by himself (A better cover than the original? Perhaps), and went straight into "The Adventure", and they ended the show with "The War". Decent set is all.
Taking Back Sunday came on next, and were so full of energy. Adam's voice has never been that good when it comes to big live performances, but here he sang pretty well. His and Fred's voices matched well in songs like "Set Phasers To Stun" and "MakeDamnSure". They ended the set with what I thought would be "Error: Operator" (They were talking about superheroes!), but it was just "One Eighty By Summer". A pretty good set though which makes me wonder why they didn't headline. Adam's swinging antics were gone though, since he was using a cordless mic haha.
Last but certainly not least was Lostprophets. I don't know how long they've been away from the tour scene, but they certainly exploded tonight. They came out to "Start Something", and Ian was just soaking it up. They played really well too, and played 3 new songs including new single "Rooftops" (Which they taught the crowd to sing along to). Llan of Fenix*TX fame was drumming with them tonight as well, which I thought was really cool, and Ian made him bust out an insane solo. I was cheering my *** off for him by the end! They finished the night with "Shinobi Vs. Dragon Ninja", and that was the song which sent the pit wild. I barely knew what was going on!
So yeah, all in all, Saturday ruled a lot. I heard a lot about how last year's GIAN was poorly set up and everything, but this year's was really good. It was cool having both stages right next to each other, since you aren't waiting half an hour for the next band to set up. You can just watch the side stage from where you are, you don't even need to move.
Angry Balled Fists!

That sounds really awesome. Biggest dissapointment would be Adam using that cordless mic. I love watching him on stage, with the mic.
He was kinda doing his thing though. He was throwing it around and stuff, but it's not the same. I always thought TBS supporting swinging mics heh

Yeah, Adam's pretty awesome with the mic-swinging. Has anyone seen the video for MakeDamnSure? There's a part where he's got the cord kind of wrapped around his neck, and it's swinging around. That was pretty cool.

Sounded good, i'm suprised Lostprophets headlined.
They blew everybody out of the water, and I mean by miles. Ian was top notch as usual, amping the crowd like few frontmen can. I think the addition of Ilan Rubin was one reason they were so tight. Their sound was huge and constantly driving and the lighting was awesome. Earls Court was all floor and their was moshing and "dancing", as Ian calls it, past the sound and lighting rigs, so that's a good indication of how powerful they were. The whole place went nuts.
BTW, their new drummer only did a few shows with Fenix Tx after they kicked their drummer off a tour. Denver Harbor is the band that he was in and was also touring on the same bill so FTX asked him to fill in for the rest of the tour.

So, tonight I went to see Silverstein. It turned out to be an awesome show.
Come The Dawn
Local. They were pretty good.
One Way Letter
Seriously awesome. Female vocals and screams. Check 'em out if you get a chance.
http://myspace.com/onewayletter
The Sleeping
This was my second time seeing them, and they were great. They had these cool little robots on top of their amps that shot lasers from there eyes.
House Of Heroes
They were the only band on the show that didn't scream. People didn't seem real into them, but I enjoyed them. They had some slow songs that really helped switch things up after a night of screaming.

Silverstein
Third time seeing them, and they were great as usual. They played an awesome set, and closed the night out with "Bleeds No More". People were going crazy the whole set.
-
Tomorrow I'm seeing Taking Back Sunday, Story Of The Year, and Emanuel. :D
-
Oh, and also...
I spent tonight hanging out with some of the weirdest girls I've ever met at my life. People like that seem to always seek me out, especially at shows.
they were seriously bizarre. The one girl kept telling me she loved me, and asked me to marry her like 10 times at least. Keep in mind, I've never met or even seen this girl before tonight.

Last night I saw Taking Back Sunday at Rochester Institute of Technology, as part of their springfest.
Emanuel
I love these guys, but the sound for their set was terrible. I couldn't hear the vocalist at all. :(
Story Of The Year
These guys were awesome, as usual. They had so much energy, and everyone was going crazy for them.
At one point, I fell over, and ended up with like four people on top of me. Only a couple people even bothered trying to help everyone up, so I was on the ground for like 2 minutes. The whole night, I was one of the few guys helping people up when they fell. :-\
Taking Back Sunday
Amazing. The crowd didn't have as much energy during their set, but it was still awesome. They played pretty much evey song I wanted to hear, and they were great.

That's a bummer about Emanuel I love them. I'm not into Story of the Year, and I can't belive the crowd had more energy during SOTY than during TBS. Well that REALLY sucks about falling on the ground. I always help people up, people that don't are bitches, can't stand people like that. The only song I didn't get to hear that I wanted to when I saw TBS was There's No I In Team.

I would have liked to hear "There Is No I In Team" as well, but either way their setlist was great.
I think the crowd had more energy for Story of the Year because their music is more intense than Taking Back Sunday's.
I'm guessing that this was the first concert a lot of these people had ever been to. It was at a college campus, so it was really cheap for students. That's the only excuse for why a lot of these people had no idea what to do.

Well yesterday I went to the Bamboozle festival with Crimble and it was quite a fun time. I got to see Streetlight Manifesto, Motion City Soundtrack and Thursday. I had to go late because of lacrosse so I missed Bayside. When we first go there we sat down and ate while watching Hidden In Plain View and HelloGoodbye from a distance. Both played well but I'm not to familar with either of them. Then after that we waited for a while to Streetlight to come on and when they played they were amazing. There set was:
New Song
That'll be the day
Point/Keasbey Nights/Counterpoint
Everything Went Numb
New Song
Heres to Life
After Streetlight I saw Motion City who were also really good.Their keyboardist had a lot of energy through out the set. I dont remember the order of teh songs but these are the ones I know they played.
Everything is Alright
Lets get ****ed up and Die
Time Turned Fragile
Make Out Kids
The Future Freaks Me Out
Capital H
My Favorite Accident
Hold me Down
Then after Motion City I saw Thursday who were amazing. They put on a great show. The whole band a lot of energy. Also towards the end of their set they said "Fall Out Boy are up next" and the whole crowd booed. I thought it was pretty funny. Anyway heres there setlist
Understanding in a Car Crash
The Other Side Of The Crash
Signals Over the Air
Counting 5-4-3-2-1
For the Workforce Drowning
Cross Out the Eyes
Jet Black New Year
They played another song before Jet Black I can't remember which though
After Thursday a good portion of the crowd including me left. I would've thought more people would stay to see Fall Out Boy. Well anyway all in all i had quite the day there.

Got to see Blackout Pact, Heavy Heavy Low Low, The Number 12 Looks Like You, and Fall of Troy last night
Incredible concert, even got to burn in Heavy Heavy's van with the band, laid-back guys, pretty small venue, but good atmosphere, people watched your back in the pit, though some gigantic dude knocked me down when he kicked me in the back, and its upsetting how many people don't know how to hardcore dance (me included) Fall of Troy was definitely the best, the guitar work was mezmerizing, especially considering that its all done by one guy with looping pedals, who also sings
Heavy Heavy low low was good, but I wasnt familiar enough with them so their set seemed to blend together, same with blackout pact

I saw Me First And The Gimme Gimmes on Sunday night, to be honest they could've been better. They were hilarious on stage, especially Fat Mike and Joey Cape, but their set list wasn't brilliant and despite being on stage for a long time they didn't seem to play that many songs.

So, last night I went to see Marathon's last show, at The Furnace in Syracuse, NY.
Whiskey Trench
These guys are a melodic punk (?) band from Quebec. I had never really heard them before, but they were pretty good.
Achilles
I've seen these guys once before, and they're actually pretty good. Their were a fair number of people there who knew them, since they are from Rochester, and play a lot of shows in the Western New York area.
Fifth Hour Hero
Pop-punk band from Quebec. They were really good, although they didn't really fit in that well with the other bands.
Fire When Ready
I think these guys played with Marathon in Rochester in March. A lot of people seemed to be really into them, and they put on a great show.
MARATHON
By the time these guys came on, the whole venue was packed. I was standing right at the stage when they started, and immediately got pinned up against the stage. To avoid getting my legs borken, I ended up crounching on the stage for the entire set. It was so awesome.
Anyway, Marathon started out with "Painting By Numbers", followed by "Some Lovely Parting Gifts", and "Home Is Where The Van Is". About halfway through their set, Aaron (the lead singer), took time to give "awards" to his band members. He even had trophys to give them. It was really cool.
The band closed out the set with a few songs from Songs To Turn The Tide, followed by "Courting My Soul", and, of course, "I Don't Have A Dancing Problem". By this time, there were about 50 people standing on the stage singing along. It was unbelievable.
Marathon was one of the greatest bands I ever had the pleasure of listening to, and they will continue to be one of my favorites. They're great guys, and their music has meant a lot to me over the past 10 months or so. It's hard to believe that such a great band is over. Last night was seriously one of the greatest nights of my life. I'm so grateful that I had the chance to see these guys three times in less than a year. It's too bad more people won't ever get the chance to have that experience.

Another review: Action Action - August 1st, 2005 @ The Icon, Buffalo NY
This past Monday I went to see Spitalfield, Gatsby's American Dream, Waking Ashland, and Action Action. It was the last day of the tour, and all the bands were great. Action Action came on last, and they played an awesome set. At the end of the last song, the band started to completely demolish the stage. The drummer kicked over the bass drum, and then began pounding on one of the shnares so hard that it fell over. Meanwhile, one of the keyboard players almost knocked his keyboard into the crowd. It was hilarious.
I heard Gatsby's American Dream were good live, I'm planning on seeing them next month.

Wow, it's been so long since I wrote a review in this thread. I've been to eight shows since that Marathon show.
Anyway, tonight I went to see Just Surrender with As Tall As Lions, David Melillo, and Transition. A couple locals played too, but they weren't much good, so I won't even waste time talking about them.
Transition
I'd never heard these guys before, but they were so good. Their music was really catchy, and they had a lot of energy, despite the fact that it was unusually hot today.
They even did a cover of "Story Of A Girl", by 9 Days. It was so awesome. I hadn't heard that song in years, but they did a great job with it. It was definitely the high point of a great night.
I'm seeing these guys again in a couple months with Reel Big Fish, MXPX, Streetlight Manifesto, and Whole Wheat Bread. I plan on buying their CD at that show. It's going to rule.
As Tall As Lions
These guys were pretty good. I enjoy their music, but they weren't that impressive live. They didn't have much energy, and they wasted a lot of time trying to get everything to be perfect*. They were still pretty good, but I thought their set could have been better.
*This wasn't entirely the band's fault, as the sound guy wasn't very good, but it still ended up causing them to have to cut their set short.
David Melillo
AMAZING. Every song he/they played was so awesome. He played three songs with the full band, and two songs alone, with just an acoustic guitar. The songs with the full band were really good, and the songs he played alone were even better.
I picked up a copy of his EP for 5 dollars. I was really impressed.
Just Surrender
I've seen these guys a bunch of times, and they never manage to draw much of a crowd, even though they are a really good band, and put on a great show. Tonight was no different. They were awesome as usual, and only about 50-75 people even botheredd to hang around and watch.
Either way it was an awesome night.

Man I would be at Just Surrender every single time they came through how can they not draw a big crowd? I love them, man sounds like a sweet night Brian.

So I was at Hyde Park at the weekend, and seen a fair amount of bands.
Juliette and the Licks
I never actually caught the beginning of this set, as I was still trying to get into the venue. I also have never heard any of theyre songs, but they were alright I guess, nothing special.
Angels and Airwaves
I felt like I was the only person there who appreciated this band. And theyre actually pretty good live, until the supermassive long intros got boring, and Tom started waffling on about how he changed the world. Overall pretty enjoyable.
Queens Of The Stone Age
I absolutely love this band, and they didn't disappoint, Josh Homme is still piling on the pounds, and has now gone for dying his hair black. The first band of the day to get a proper singalong from the crowd, Go With The Flow was one of my highlights of the day. So much better than I expected them to be.
Motorhead
I won't lie, I actually only know one of this band's songs, so I decided to go grab something to eat, and go to the toilet while they were on. This actually took the length of their set, as I guess around half of the crowd had the same idea as me. Ace of Spades was awesome though
Foo Fighters
The headliners of the day exceeded all expectations and put on the best gig I've ever been to. Dave had 85,000 people singing along to his every word, and they were amazing. Lemmy from Motorhead made a guest appearance on Vocals, and Brian May and Rodger Taylor from Queen joined the band in a rendition of a Queen song I didn't actually know :p
Overall, the whole thing was certainly worth the money.

Tonight I got to see Bayside, for free. It was my first free show, and my first day of work at the club.
Crash Romeo
Never heard these guys before, but they were pretty good. Nothing special, but not bad either,
The Sleeping
I've seen these guys a few times, and they always put on a good show. They had a lot of energy, and really got the crowd moving.
I Am The Avalanche
I've seen these guys a few times as well. They were pretty good, although they seemed to be having some sound problems.
The Loved Ones
This band is so awesome, but they really didn't fit the show. There were only about 20 people who knew their music, and they didn't seem real into it because of that.
At one point the lead singer announced that they would be back with Lifetime, which drew practically no response. He then asked if anyone knew who Lifetime was, and only a few people did. It was sad, really.
The lead singer also took the time to make fun of a young scenester girl. He was saying things like "Don't worry, in a few months you'll be getting your braces off", and "Having your bangs covering your eyes like that gives you an anti-social appearance". It was hilarious.
Bayside
It's hard to believe that I used to not like these guys. They put on an awesome show, and every one of their songs is awesome.
They were great tonight, as usual.

"Edgefest" 2006
Okay, so today I went to "Edgefest". The show was held in a convention center, and the sound quality was quite poor, but it was still a good time.
Pryde
These guys were the first band to play. I wasn't really into them, so I walked around, and listened to them from a distance.
Speakerfire
These guys are a local rock band. They aren't really doing anything new, but I happen to enjoy them. They put on a decent show, but I think they're much better in a club setting.
Halifax
Good, as usual. They played the exact same set as they did when I saw them 4 days ago though.
Rock Kills Kid
It's been over a year since I first saw these guys, but I'm still impressed with them. Their music is really fun, and upbeat, and they're really enjoyable to listen to. I need to buy their CD one of these days.
Anberlin
I saw these guys 4 days ago, with Halifax, and, like Halifax, they played the exact same set. To be honest, I like these guys a lot better on record than I do live. They seem to throw in a lot of unnecessary screams during their live set, and they just don't work. The lead singer also isn't that great live.
Still an awesome band, but they've never been quite as good live as the first time I saw them (pre-Never Take Friendship Personal).
Hit The Lights
These guys were on the show with Halifax, Anberlin, and Hawthorne Heights as well, and like Anberlin and Halifax, they too played the exact same set. No big deal though, as, once again, they were great. Their music is so catchy, and they're really good live.
Thousand Foot Krutch
I watched these guys from a distance. From what I could tell, they were just pretty much a generic radio-friendly rock band. Meh.
The Subways
I watched these guys from a distance as well. They seemed pretty good, I guess. Their music was fairly catchy, and seemed like something I'd listen to on a rare occasion.
Matchbook Romance
These guys were a disappointment in that they only played one old song, to go along with 5 new ones. They were still really good, but I would have liked to have seen them mix it up a bit more.
Buckcherry
This band sucks. I half-listened to them from a distance, and their music was bland and obnoxious. Easily the worst band of the night.
30 Seconds To Mars
These guys were the first of four "headliners". Each headliner played about an hour, and had an elaborate stage/light set-up.
I kind of find their music to be boring and repetitive, but I do like them live. Like the last time I saw them, they had a lot of energy, and the crowd was really into it. They definitely got the best reception of any band that played.
Hawthorne Heights
This was my 8th time seeing these guys, and they were really good, as usual. They played more or less the same songs as they did when I saw them a few nights ago, but that didn't much matter, as they played pretty much everything.
Basically, every other song they play is off the new album. It works out well, because old and new fans alike will know at least half the set.
Yellowcard
I was actually pleasantly suprised by these guys. I like their music, but I expected them to play a lot of songs off the new album. They only played a couple new songs though, and filled the rest of their set with hits from other albums, which was cool, because I don't really know the new album. I'd say these guys were probably one of the top 3 or 4 bands of the night.
Taking Back Sunday
Awesome. I really like these guys, and they never fail to disappoint live. They played pretty much every song I wanted to hear, and had an awesome stage set up.
Overall, it was definitely worth the $30. The venue wasn't great, due to the incredibly poor osund quality, and the crowd sucked (a lot of people were drunk.), but it was still a really good show.
-
That also marks the end of seven straight nights at a concert, which in a way is a good thing, because I'm pretty much dead.

Storm In A Teacup
06-30-2006, 10:35 PM
I'll just write some quick reviews of bands I've seen.
30 Seconds To Mars
While Jared Leto may have had the energy of a racing horse the fact that the sound at this free concert was just way too bothersome. The band played for at least forty-minutes and other than the sound were really good. They opened up with the song "A Beautful Lie" and that pumped everyone up. At the end they left, but came back quickly for an encore and played a song from their first album and then the awesome song "The Kill". Overall it was good, besides the bad sound setup. 3/5
Senses Fail
Now this is a band you'd think would be horrible live, right? Wrong. The energy each member showed was amazing and the two guitarists kicked it in high gear. Buddy could be understood completely and the whole crowd was crazy. 4.5/5
The Early November
While I don't think too highly of the band the rest of the crowd at the concert definitely was. I was at the very front, but I felt like I was in the middle of the mosh pit. The whole audience was absolutely balistic for the whole set. I was swayed back and forth and everyone basically was falling everywhere. It was a miracle I managed to stay at the front for the set. The band themselves were actually really sweet. Ace' vocals were better than they are on recording and the sound was superb. 4/5
I'll post a couple concert reviews a day. :)

went with a couple of lady friends to go see the dashboard confessional show in toronto today.
1st off, The Molson Ampitheatre sucks. The security guards there treated everyone like cattle, and screamed at them for no apparent reason.
But as for the show, I saw Dashboard, John Ralston and City/Colour. Say Anything were supposed to be there too (and were the main reason I went) but as Chris from dashboard oh so elegantly put it... "He has the streptococcus".
Anyway, as for the others. After being herded around like cattle for almost 2 hours through multiple ticket checks and lineups me and my friends finally got in and got a seat. Apparently pit tickets were more expensive (and apparentley the other general admission tickets didn't include the floor), but we got decent seats in the centre of the venue.
John Ralston comes on, and I personally think he was pretty good. He seemed fairly nervous and didn't say much to the audience except for thank-yous in between songs. I would have probably enjoyed him more if there weren't 4 pre-pubescent girls behind me whining about how he "sucked" and how they want dallas green to come on.
Then, after a 15 minute intermission (I.E, the roadies needed to re-arrange the stage) it was City and Colour time, in this case it was Dallas Green doing guitar/vocals, his cousin on keyboard, and some other friend of his (who's name escapes me) playing secondary guitar. First, I love his voice. Second. He is a very skilled guitar player. He also interacted alot more with the crowd, which was nice and he talked about a festival coming up in St.Cathrines soon that I might head out to aswell. Cut a story short, he was by far my favourite of the night.
Then dashboard. I was looking foreward to them the least, and after the confusion of "where the hell is say anything" I came to terms that I wouldn't be hearing any songs from SA. But back to dashboard, they're okay. I never liked them on record and although they are very energetic live chris seems to take himself too seriously. They had a really nice stage show though, with backdrops and such. And they covered Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees" which was interesting. They ended up playing for nearly 2 hours because they wanted to make up for say anything's absence which I thought was very cool.
Anyway, after that I went and bought City and Colour's album at the merch booth (which was unfortunately run by the venue, not the band's own merch guy, so all the shirts were 28$ and CDs were 15$) I was on my way home.

I've been to 4 paramore concerts already, they ALL kicked ***. Anyways they are going on their headlining tour with Hit The Lights, Cute Is What We Aim For and This Providence (all good bands) and presale tickets are still available. http://www.fueledbyramen.com/paramore/tour
Check and see if they are coming to a city near you in Aug/Sept. Also, if you buy 4 tickets you get a meet and greet with paramore, which is cool cuz they are a great bunch of kids...

I was offered a free ticket to Ozzfest, so I decided to go. I only caught 6 bands, but I'm definitely glad I went.
Black Label Society
I'd heard of this band, but never actually heard any of their music. They were actually quite good, though. They were really talented.
Ozzy Osbourne
When I saw that Ozzy was playing, my first thought was "oh god", but he actually ended up being really good. I don't know much of his music, but his set was pretty cool. His guitarist was awesome.
Dragonforce
These guys were pretty insane. Once again, I wasn't familiar with much of their music, but just watching these guys play their instruments was entertaining.
Lacuna Coil
I had actually never heard of this band before. I wasn't really impressed, but I'd like to hear them outside of the Ozzfest setting.
Hatebreed
So awesome. Definitely the highlight of the night.
WHAT I HAVE IN MY HEART
I'LL TAKE TO MY GRAVE
Avenged Sevenfold
Surprisingly good. I didn't know a lot of what they played, but they weren't bad at all. Their set seemed really short though.
I had to leave after A7X, because my ride was leaving. It wasn't a huge deal, although I would have liked to see System Of A Down. The only other band I missed was Disturbed, which is no great loss.

I have a busy couple weeks ahead of me as far as concerts go:
7/28 - And Then I Turned Seven
7/29 - Action Action
7/30 - Theory Of A Deadman (maybe...)
7/31 - Adolescents
8/1 - Warped Tour
8/2 - xTo This Dayx (maybe...)
8/3 - The Germs
8/4 - The Format
8/5 - Paramore
8/7 - Gorilla Biscuits
-
Oh, and on Wednesday, I saw Murder By Death, which was awesome.

I plan to give the most hellah detailed review of Bullet For My Valentine you'll ever see. I'll probably submit it for the newsletter too.
In the meantime though:
Hawthorne Heights: Actually, Hawthorne Heights weren't as bad as I figured they would be, but they still weren't too great. The music itself is bland, but the members nailed it pretty much without too much in mistakes. Singer JT was like an android, both when he talked to the crowd and singing. His voice was twenty times worse than on disc and this is exactly the only thing he said to the crowd, "Hey, how's it going? I'm having fun". <He said that about five times. At the end they played "Ohio Is For Lovers" and I was among some of the people in the front who gathered into JT's mic and sung, but I'm not a traitor, I was thinking of shooting him the whole time. ;) Overall it was decent, except for JT: 6/10

I saw Oliver, Ozma, and The Rentals on Wednesday.
Oliver is a local pop rock band from Portland. Not half bad actually.
Ozma was awesome. They played Battlescars, and the Tetris Theme  That was probably the best part of their set.
The Rentals blew me away. I wasnt sure what their live show would be like, but they brought down the place. Tons of energy, kept it fun, and they sounded amazing on top of that. They played one Weezer song, "I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams"...that was my favorite part of the whole concert....Matt played bass for that song too.
Its definitely the best concert I've been to. I got to meet The Rentals, which means I got to meet Matt Sharp. I can die tomorrow and be happy.

Last night, I went to see the Reel Big Fish/MXPX tour. The show sold out, so the club was packed. Tickets were expensive ($20), but I get in free ,so it didn't matter.
American Black Lung
These guys were alright. They reminded me a lot of the Bronx. Not many people were into them, though, and about half the crowd was still waiting in line when they started.
Whole Wheat Bread
These guys always put on a fun show, no matter what. Last night was no different.
Streetlight Manifesto
I'd been waiting so long to see these guys, so my expectations were quite high. Anway, they completely blew me away. Their whole set was AMAZING. Almost everyone was singing along, which was surprising.
The third song they played was "Point/Counterpoint". About halfway through the song, they transistioned into "Keasbey Nights", and then returned to the end of "Point/Counterpoint". It was possibly the single best song I've ever seen performed live.
Basically, one of the best bands I've ever seen.
MXPX
I wasn't overly impressed with these guys, to be honest. I like their music, but their setlist was really strange. They played a couple covers, and when they asked for requests, people requested other covers. I think they ended up playing 3 or 4 covers, which was sort of disappointing.
They closed out their set with "Punk Rawk Show", which was cool.
Reel Big Fish
Really good. I've seen them before, and they've been great both times. They played a really long time (1 and a half hours, or so.), and played basically every song I wanted to hear. A lot of fun.

Here's a review of the concert I went to last night (you will +rep me for this 10 paragraph review by God!).
So I've had my ticket for the Forte, Cellador, and Bullet For My Valentine for a couple weeks and I'm pumped, okay? Well, the venue it's being held at I'd never been to before because most national bands go to a different place. Well, The Hive is known for how rowdy it can get; a man was shot to death there not too long ago. I get there and it's obvious it could be like that night again...I probably stuck out as an untr00 metalhead since I was wearing a beloved Coheed & Cambria shirt, but I put on the skin head routine anyway. :p
I'm inside the venue now after getting patted down. It's unusual that I was though as I figured security wouldn't be that good. Cain's (the main venue in Tulsa) has the worst security there. Sometimes I don't even get patted down. This patting down was nothing short of rape let me tell you. But that was made up for by the fact I didn't get the 'minor' stamp, meaning I could buy beer. So I'm chilling after seeing some fellows I know waiting for the show to start, and finally it does.
The first band, Forte, was alright. Kind of death metal at some points, and prog metal at others. The bassist stole the show however. He's very talented and moved all over the fret board extremely fast. He'd switch his hand from playing under handed to over handed which is always cool, but he did it like it was child's play. In typical bassist fashion he didn't have a shirt on and his hair was all shaved except for a pony tail located on top of his head that was braided in to multiple tails. For the whole concert he'd swing his head while playing and it would be like a helicopter's blades spinning around. That was niftly. He did back up vocals too and sounded like Geddy Lee of Rush. I thought it was cool, but apparently I was the only one because everyone else would laugh at him and the lead singer who's vocals were a mix of death and Geddy Lee style. It kind of pissed me off because even if you don't like a band you shouldn't laugh at them in concert. I don't think they noticed at least. All in all, Forte was good, but not enough to make me want to buy anything from them.
Next up is Cellador. I had no clue who these guys were before they played, but I was blown away. One of the lead guitarists looks like Claudio Sanchez and that is alright by me. :) So they start playing and I'm just stunned. For a minute I thought Cellador had been replaced by Dragonforce, they're basically a carbon-copy of them, but the difference is I like Cellador quite a bit. One of my main thoughts during this set was, "speed metal at its finest". The mosh pit finally started up for the first time that night, it was sad seeing the lead singer of Forte saying, "where's the ****ing pit", three times that night with the crowd having a dazed look of boredom over their faces. I didn't get involved however because I was behind only one person from being right at the front and the person was short so it was a perfect spot. Halfway through someone threw beer at me and this skinhead next to me and he was rarin' to fight whoever it was. He said, "I've got to drive home after this sh*t". I'd have understood him if he hadn't been drinking and would end up being pulled over and have to go through a test, but he was drinking before and smelled of alchohal already....oh well. Before Cellador's final song they said this was the final stop on their two-and-a-half week tour and to help make this last song special. I didn't know it was the last concert for the whole tour and I thought that was cool. Cellador ended their set magnificently and I knew I'd be stopping by their merch booth later on.
After over a half an hour of waiting Bullet For My Valentine finally got on to play. The recorded intro to their debut full-length album played while the members waved to the crowd and through water on us, thank God because it was very, very hot there. The band commented that it was the hottest concert they ever played several times. So after the intro finished the started off with "Her Voice Resides". It was awesome because every single person, including me, started semi-moshing to the music. I was punching and stuff, but managed to stay in the same place for the whole thing, mostly. Then after that they continued to go in order of the record with "4 Words
(To Choke Upon)". Bullet For My Valentine is a lot better live than I thought they would be.
The lead guitarist, Moose, was right in front of me the whole time and it was cool to see him play. He'd stick his tongue out at us from time to time and do various, funny things. The band would pause quite a bit, or Matt would signal us to sing along and that was pretty bad a.ss. After a while it was pretty hot and I, along with a couple other people, yelled at the "security" in front of us for water. Usually the people will pour water from bottles down our mouths at concerts and do it a lot at the main concert venue in Tulsa, but the guy nearest was sitting there drinking from a water bottle and shook his head no. That fu.cker. The Hive has the wost security. When people would crowd surf they wouldn't even catch them and when the fell out of the crowd at the front is the only time security would get off their as.ses. They wouldn't even ask if the people were alright and just throw them back into the top of the crowd, or take them to the side roughly and get them out of their way of sleeping. >:-[
A little more than halfway through frontman Matt said, "This next song is for the beautiful women of Tulsa. Come talk to me after this show if you want to fu.ck me. This is "Tears Don't Fall". Usually it's not surprising for the members of a band to talk to women after the show and that would lead on to whatever, but it was the first time I saw a guy do that. :p
Finally, the band got off the stage and dispensed with the usual thanks for having us and stuff. Everyone was yelling one more song and the tech for the band said they're way in the back watching playboy and we'd have to yell real loud to get them to come back. I'm still at the very front of course and I could see them waiting right behind the makeshift stage (btw, it was just a really large table set up with a short steel fence keeping us from the stage). They came back for two songs. I think both were cover songs though because I didn't recognize the songs from "The Poison". The songs were good and I decided this was the time to truely mosh.
The concert was top notch stuff. I only wish that BFMV had played "Room 409", I think it was their only song they didn't play and that the crowd was polite to Forte. My favorite song for the whole concert was definitely "All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)" from BFMV. It was an epic performance with the crowd singing every lyric from the song. It was awesome and the band made the song heavier than it is on the recorded version.
For the merch booth I only went to Cellador and guess what? I met all five members of the band. I bought a shirt and their CD, which all five signed the cover of the booklet. I thought of telling the lead guitarist I liked his hair and it reminded me of Claudio Sanchez, but I decided not to. Then I went outside and waited for my ride. I actually waited besides the bus BFMV were using and lo and behold, Matt, the frontman is on the bus with, I thought, every member of the band, with a group of women. I got tired of waiting and spying through the window on them and went back inside. There I saw the lead guitarist of BFMV. I was surprised at first because I figured he'd be in the bus, but he was talking to fans instead and signing autographs at the merch booth. I didn't have anything for him to sign though and lost my ticket earlier so I gave him my shoe to sign. haha. Now I know why he wasn't on the bus because I looked at the liner notes and he's married.
All in all...4/5 concert. Forte was a 3/5 Cellador was a 4.5/5 and BFMV were a 4.5/5 as well. Very cool night.

Meh, only two bands? That sucks; they probably played a longer set, although since BFMV only has one record that's hard to imagine. Ah well, they are both the top two of the three bands anyway, obviously.

I think they may have let Cellador play longer than they usually would. They played about 40 minutes.
