*shrug* that week of interest seems to be dying down. Is there a mod specifically for the Sports section? Wouldn't be a bad idea methinks.
Oh the draft. Yup. Thumbs up. Watched the whole thing unfold on TSN.ca and all over the place. Long day...

I played against the #6 pick, Gilbert Brule.
I owned him too. He didnt score any goals on me.
And yet here I am sitting at home on my computer, while he's about to become a multi-millionaire. So is life, I suppose.

I played with or against a lot of picks today. And there's a reason why I was on my couch today...
Did you play in the Dub? And hell, I wouldn't trade anything for the experience of playing hockey...and if I woulda made it as a pro, hey, that's a bonus and I hope every one of these guys makes it (even though I know that won't happen). What a great sport. It's nice to be able to be happy to be a fan again.

The Rangers picked Marc Staal first.
Man I wanna go pro, I think everyone does at what they play. How amazing was it playing in the minors?

It just bothered me that it should have been Sidney Crosby's day and there's Mario sticking his face in the cameras and talking about how he'll play another two years (at least) now. I feel sorry for Crosby, he's not going to be brought into the league slowly at all , it looks as though the Penguins will throw him out on the first line, and I'll be amazed if he isn't out indefinately with his second concussion by Christmas.
I'm glad the Leafs finally look like they've got their goalie of the future and I wonder if Jeff O'Neil has anything left in the tank. He only got a reported 1.5 million for each of the two years of his new contract with the Leafs.

Crosby probably wanted that, he's been top story in the NHL the last year.

Yeah it was probably nice to have the spotlight off of him for a few hours for once.
BTW it was in another thread somewhere asking how much Lemieux was gonna make:
Crosby will most likely make the rookie max, and for the last 3 seasons Mario has made 5.2 million US, and this year has said he'll most likely make around 3 million. Anyone know if he's made back the money Pittsburgh owed him when the owners sold him the team?
Who does everyone think has a good chance of making an opening night roster off of this draft other than Crosby?

I didnt play in the WHL. I got a tryout with the Portland Winterhawks, but I just never worked hard enough to make it. I played against Brule at the Global Scouting Camp up in the Vancouver area, probably 3 years ago.
I'm guessing you follow the WHL somewhat? How did Jason Reese do last year? He plays on the Vancouver Giants, and was supposed to win rookie of the year, but I dont think he did. I still expect him to go in the first two rounds in next years draft. I played with him for about 6 years, from peewee until midget.

I have alot more respect for you now that i know your a goalie. I have to say, I think its one of the toughest positions in sports.

I wish there was more coverage of minor league and overseas hockey. I dont even know who 95% of the draftees are.

Thats what you get with Hockey and Baseball in the US.

Zagrapan was picked much lower than he was rated I believe.
And yeah, the coverage sucks, but it's possible to follow by oging to games and using resources like hockeysfuture.com and stuff...what a great sport.

Cool I never knew that website. About the only draftees I ever know are if I actually knew them personally (like this year and maybe the next year or two), or if they play in the WHL.

It's a pretty cool site but you gotta admit it's a lot cooler to actually know a guy being drafted...and that in your case you shut him down!

Although I think their first pick was ok, the Sabres got screwed at 13th.

The Rangers had 16th pick, they did trade up, but for all the teams that had the best chances got bad picks, except Pittsburgh obviously.

San Jose drafted poorly -- they traded up 4 spots to get a guy at 8 that would have been there at 12 anyways (most likely).
Pittsburgh might actually be decent this year, not just because of Crosby but didnt they pick up a few others guys?
