I was wondering about a fair way for a band to buy equipment. I would hate to throw 200 bucks into equipment then the band breaks up and i dont have anything to show for it. Might be a nasty way to look at things but you have to think about it. Any ideas or ways that have worked would be appreciated. Thanks guys and gals.

in my old band, we decided stuff would be split up, as equally in terms of value as possible. and shook on it.
I think that the band should buy things seperately.
If you're going to buy a PA, the guitarist should buy the mixer, Bassist the power amp, drummer a speaker, vocalist a speaker.
Then when you split up, you have no arguments on who owns what, and if you don't need the equipment you can sell it on.

Depends on what your doing, but i think it should be split according to what each member uses, like the drummer should buy drum mics, but the singer should pay for quite a bit of the PA maybe... us guitarists/bassists spend loads on amps and guitars, and drummers dont get off easily either. meh, but yes it should be split quite equally, but in accordance to what each member will get more use of... that probably doesnt make sense. its late. :upset:

I pretty much bought everything in my band PA wise because I'm gunna keep it all when the band ends. The Drummer just spends his money on drum stuff and the bassist does likewise

yeah, but all* vocalists are stingy bastards.
BAssists+ Guitarists + drummers usually end up having to give the same share as vocalists, its silly.

the pa should be split between the band i reckon... we paid $100 bucks each for our pa. if we break up the we will just sell the pa or one of use will buy it off the other memebers
