For awhile now I've been wanting to get a midi controller of some sort, so that I may record music and edit it on my comp.

I've played with things like garageband and fruity loops, but I would like somethin closer along the lines of pro tools ( i believe). I want to record bass lines, and piano, be able to edit the tracks and move them, cut them, edit the sound, as I please. Putting together songs, and audio tracks, etc.

I was thinking of buying a simple M-Audio 25 key midi controller, or something along those lines. Would I be able to plug in my electric bass right to the controller and record onto the computer? ANd what would you recomend for a decent recording program to do what I'm trying to do.

Thank you for your help.

Logic beats Pro Tools for Midi sequencing, in my and many's opinion. Try it.

Logic seems like an awesome choice, but only reaosn I mentioned Pro Tools is because I'm gonna' be doing it on my PC. I've got a Mac but it's shared and everything I do, I do on this XP.
With the new Pro Tools though I'm not sure if it's still designed only for digidesign products or what. S any other recomendations that are pc compatible?

it's a special, stripped-down version of ProTools. Unlike the other versions, you buy it seperately from your interface. Also, it only works with select M-Audio interfaces.

For those who are interested, this is b/c Digidesign bought M-Audio. I bet a lot of you could guess just be reading the above.
