i've never posted to this forum, but i need help so here goes. i'm a drummer who owns an electronic kit capable of MIDI output. basically what i want to do is use my e-drum kit to create drum tracks using midi recording/sequencing software and drum sample libraries. here's what i was thinking of doing:

- get some kind of midi recording/sequencing software
- get a drum sample library and import it into the software
- get a midi interface for my computer
- connect my drums to the computer with a midi cable
- play my e-drums and use the midi software to record the midi output of my kit
- use the software to assign different drum sample sounds to the different midi voices from my kit
- play the whole thing back using the software and hear the new drum sounds through my computer speakers.
- add other instruments and mix everything down to an MP3 file.

is this possible? if so, what would be a good program for doing this? i'm already looking at cakewalk home studio and fruity loops. could those relatively inexpensive programs do the trick? what do you guys think?

Thats crazy i was just getting ready to post a thread asking the same thing. i just got a yamaha dtxpress III special with midi out to host and was trying to do the same thing... I want to record into midi and use dfhs samples also. does anyone know if dfhs can record midi so i can also change the velocities of each hit since im not sure if the yamaha does that or not. Im thinking i might be able to use Cubase SX ill try and let you know.

Logic is what gives us mac users an edge in recording
though the audio enviroment is not as strong as say cubase or protools
the midi makes up for it HIGHLY!
plus the massive amount of plug ins

makes me proud to be a mac user

Bah the audio part is more than enough for me. I've tried pro tools free and I really don't like the interface.

Meh what would you guys recomend for PC as a good balance between audio and midi capabilities?

Cubase..? I tried some midi with it and it was satisfactory. I don't know about the audio side. But forget things like acid and FL.

Meh tbh im really not a mac fan. I hate OS X, the stupid bar that dissapears and if you miss the bar at the top you have to go and select the program again. its stupid. i like the fact that macs are generally more stable, and yes they do have a certain 'cool factor', but id much rather a PC

The dock can be made to not dissapear :thumb: everything makes so much more sense, the workflow, the architecture. And the fact that you don't have to reformat it two times a year to warrant a succesful startup.

And moaner, I'm talking about the current imacs/powermacs/books, I agree that the old turd-shaped emacs and old imacs are terrible.

I can really relate to that. I've been PC literate for a while, so 4-6 years ago i knew about the PC crashing.

But windows XP is yet to give me any real problem. I've had more issues with ieplorer than i have the OS. So they've clearly dealt with a lot of things.
