We live in a small town of like 3000 people, but we seem to have a fairly well kept and big park area. Around 50 years ago, the city had got together and spent money to build this gigantic open ampitheater band-shell type arena for the local highschool Jazz and Pep bands to play at. Well, I think that it maybe had got used like 5 times at the most. For the past 50 years its basically just sat there in the park, paint peeling away and stuff. They had taken the electricity out of it eventually as well. A buncha friends and I decided to get together and go to the city council, and basically, we're all fixing it up again and putting eletricity and lights back in it again. My band, another local band, and an acoustic solo artist are planning on playing up there in the latter part of July...the first time its ever truley gotten used for what it was built for. It amplifies the sound just right, plus theres gonna be a decent crowd for around here, maybe 400+ from the surrounding area. I haven't really seen a small arena like this before, is my town special, or do any of you guys know of any other such "band shells"? Just thought it was interesting...

that sounds really great. its greta for young people to be able to help the community and get a good name for themselves, and it sounds like a fantastic gig oppurtunity.
By "it amplifies the sound" do you mean the old PA system is still fitted?
Cause it'll be running jack input hi-z mics and 100v line speaker outputs, y'know.

my town has one, its not very far from me. Except its only a couple years old. Maybe my band should see about renting it out.

In Boston theres a huge one called the Hatch Shell. They have big shows there like the Boston Pops and stuff. I doubt a small badn could play there, but local bands like Big D and the Kids Table play there.

I think he means it's a good venue acoustically, the sound travels well...etc

ah.
I prefer my more humerous possibilty.
"Ok, the vocals aren't cutting through"
"plug another 2 mics in and gaffa tape them to the first"
"wtf lol"
