I've decided that if I really would like to further my skills as a musician in general, I should look into getting a teacher. But, alas, I live in the middle of nowhere, and even though I'm willing to drive a bit, how can I find a music teacher?
I mainly have my eyes set on getting a vocal teacher; I had one last year when I was in the Detroit area, but she was an older lady. I would like a rock-oriented vocalist, or at least a vocalist who has variety and can teach all styles...
I wouldn't mind finding a very, very technical guitar teacher as well, or a teacher who knows alot about jazz and theory (I know nothing about jazz, although I really want to...).
Or a flute teacher. I have one but I can't really play it. :upset:
So.. yeah. How can I find music teachers? I live in northern Michigan...

lmfao you must be rich...
thats a fortune worth of training
do what i did...
GET A BOOK!
thats how i learned by exotic Jazz scales... slide guitar, blues .rock etc...
as for the vocals good teachers are hard to come by
i suggest looking in for vocal coaches,
probably the yellow pages
I'd suggest a book as well, but some people just don't have the talent to learn on their own and train their own voice
but the way i learned how to train my voise was by a book
called "Vocal Technique" by muscians institute

Well, I suppose I could learn more theory by resorting to books, that's how I've gotten this far. :thumb:
But if I was to get a guitar teacher, he (she? :naughty: ) would have to be extremely advanced... just to help improve my speed, accuracy, song writing, and advanced theory. Think jazz and progressive rock..
As for a vocal teacher, I've taken vocal lessons before and I've learned ALOT from these forums, especially from Merkaba. But, I would like to improve my pitch here and there, my vibrato, and just become more versatile... I would also like to learn how to do inward screams and whistle notes, those are the only things I really don't understand how to do as of yet.
I guess I just don't know where to look, or how to find someone like that.

Phone directory, ads/asking in music shops, asking anyone you know that is even slightly musical (this includes friends, school music teachers - even if you don't go there any more, they can still be of a lot of use. With ex. music students gone music teachers and all that jazz, school music teachers can quite often have a lot of contacts), ... even Google can be useful...
By the way, if you haven't seen it, here are some good speed & accuracy exercises (sorry, I just saw you mention it earlier) http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=308621. Hope they're of use to you :).

I'm down in Detroit. Wish I had some ideas, but I really don't know that chunk of the state at all.
You could look up nearby colleges, find some grad students who are looking to get money by giving lessons. That's all I've got.

Make sure the teacher you want for whatever you need will ask you what it is you want to acomplish while your taking lessons with them...just a reminder incase you didn't know that because a music teacher is sh1t if they dont do that. It seemed this old lady didn't work
