Aight, I know there have been threads about records, and whatnot, but this one will actually serve a purpose. It's for those who own records to, trade with other MX Punks. Just goto http://www.recordnerd.com and sign up and make your list of records, post the link, and trade with others or just discuss records ye or others own.

I don't buy vinyls just because I can't transform them into mp3, but I've seen some Crass and DK that I might buy, because there's any crass album on cd near here, and the DK ones are remastered and I've heard they suck.

As it has been said some albums or 7s are only on vinyl, and there's a lot of people who find it with more quality and a warmer sound.

It's opinion more than any other thing.

Could someone please explain the record collecting thing? I don't really understand how you could take any more pleasure in owning vinyl as opposse to cd's.

One reason, I guess is because a lot of older stuff was produced only on vinyl. Meaning even if they're transferred to a CD, the vinyl is the original and un tampered with version.

That's possibly why. Others probably just like the sound better. It's all preference.

True. I was thinking though, it could be because cd's are really impersonal, where as vinyl has more character, if you know what I mean.

Vinyl records are fun. I don't like buying CDs because I feel like I am getting ripped off. I actually spent $70 on a Melt-Banana record when I could have got the CD for $14 instead. It's a horrible finacial decision, I know, but I don't have any regrets. Tons of stuff is never released on CD so you /have/ to get it on vinyl if you want to own it. I'd gather 80% or more of the stuff I have isn't on CD.

Toe Rag
07-12-2005, 04:41 PM
Also, records are way more sturdy. My mother has records that are over 40 years old and they play just fine. Trying finding a CD that's over 10 years old and plays. You probably won't.

Dude, I love vinyls. I have two phonos hooked up on my stereo. Most of my collection is classic rock or folk. I have a lot of celtic/ traditional and old school country records also. A lot of my records came from my parents, but most of the classic rock records I have collected. I will do that recordnerd.com thing once I feel like listing my entire collection. I would much rather listen to a vinyl record than a cd. Many of the old folk records we have they just brought people in from the hills to record songs and sold the records. Theres no way you could get that on cd or tape.

Cd's are usually pressed indefinitely. Alot of vinyl releases are limited pressings, colored vinyl, individually numbered, or have exclusive tracks which make them appeal to collectors like myself. There is just something more enjoyable about owning an oop (out-of-print) record than a cd.

it's not really a split with new songs it's just a release with TSOL's old recordings of Abolish Government, Silent Majority, and Superficial Love, and than it has Slayer's versions of Abolish Government and Superficial Love from the Undisputed Attitude record they released with a bunch of Slayer-ified punk covers.

it's not that hard to get LPs on yer PC. one way i know is using a cable that ye can pick up at radioshack, which hooks up form yer record player to yer pc and ye can just record from the vinyl, how do ye think some vinyl-only albums are on slsk.
That suggests that we have record players that were made after the invention of the PC. Considering I have one that doesn't use the word "volume" but instead says "loudness," I really doubt it'll work on mine. I actually didn't know until last year that record players were still being made. A teacher wanted some stuff converted and one of the kids was like "Oh you just hook it up." I was like "Don't you need a microphone?" and he said "No there's a just a cable for the computer." I was like "If computers didn't exist back when record players were around, how did they know to make a jack for a computer cable?"

And I know the way some of AFI's vinyl-onlies get on there is because they put them on compilations instead of putting their regular songs on.

correction, it's an RCA-to-PC cable, that means it connects to the Aux connection on your record player/amplifier to your PC, the record player can be really old, but as long as it connects using RCA cables, it'll work.

mine's old enough that instead of plugging speakers into it, you plug it into the speakers. there is no place on the record player that anything can be plugged in. it's an all-male record player.

Well than for ye, ye got two options for dubbing vinyls, to my knowledge:
1) Resort to using a computer microphone set-up to record off of your vinyl, although the quality is gonna be ****, unless ye figure out a great set-up.

2) Ye buy a new stereo system which is capable of using the cable.

I'd recommend ye go with the second choice, unless ye honestly don't care, than just don't bother with the latter.

Hmmm, I'm not sure.
If nothing on my list interests ye, I'll buy it off ye, just lemme know how much.

Bah, I haven't had any money at all, as of late. Been wanting to mailorder some vinyl, but I guess that'll have to wait.

I'm pretty sure Blanks 77 never released an album called I Wanna be a Punk, less it was a single er something because I Wanna be a Punk is a track off of the Tanked and Pogoed LP. Linkage to any pictures of this record or sources showing it in their discography would be great.

Thought so, although ye should've just recommended the Tanked and Pogoed LP. Anyways, on with the record lists.

Like I said, once I have cash, I'll mailorder some stuff and update my list.

The only thing I buy on cd these days are promos or comps that you can't get on vinyl. I'm gonna start adding my vinyl but I have 250+ and they're all at my dad's house and I'm at my mum's so its gonna be from memory. Recently I got the snuff do do do ep and suicidal tendencies possessed to skate 12 white label. Mmm white label (drool)
