I read them when I was twelve and loved them. I don't really remember anything about it, except thinking "This would make a good movie".
hmmm... I don't really know any books that could be made into good movies because I don't read much. And when I do read, they're usually already a movie (Clockwork Orange, Fight Club, Catch 22)

So no, I don't want them to be made into a movie series. They'd cut too much out, and change too much, probably.

Stephen King's The Stand could've been made better. The miniseries didn't do it justice, in my opinion.

Now that I've seen the remake of War Of The Worlds, more H.G Wells novels would be interesting to adapt to the big screen. Unless there are some of his novels that already have been adapted in which case, I don't know about them.

I would like them to do a good Terry Pratchett film but I don't think it would be possible at all seeing as the majority of the humour relies on the fact that it's read and not spoken. You couldn'#t get even half of the jokes ans subtlties into dialogue alone.
The Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton would be amazing. There needs to be more films with vampires in who DON'T die at the end and aren't just evil. They should do Loust Souls? as well but they'd have to cast Zillah JUST right and I don't think they'd be able to get it right. That would make an an amazing film, just amazing.

Probably. The animated version of Wyrd Sisters was okay. I never got a chance to see Soul Music, and would now rather not - I love the book too much to watch someone else's interpretation of it. Problem with the Discworld books is they'd have to be made into a full series, cause half the jokes from the books are carried on throughout the rest of the books... Not many of them are entirely stand-alone.
Isn't the Bromeliad trilogy being made into a set of films? I heard something about that a while ago.

The Wheel of Time would be amazing, I was just thinking that myself. But the movies would be so long! That, plus there would be ten of them, so keeping audiences interested through ten movies, plus keeping the actors from getting gray hair, would be a real challenge. I'd watch all of them though. If they did do movies from the books, some serious editing would have to be done to edit out any parts not absolutly crucial to the plot. Which there are none.

It has to be a book that would be a good movie plot in itself. Any epic fantasy would either be **** or too long since any plot and/or character would take way too long to develop. Something like Lord of the Rings is probably the best you'll get, but even that was pretty mediocre.
Good versions of 1984 and Brave New World would be pretty neat.

The rights to Eragon have been picked up, apparently comes out next year.
I didn't really care for it, though. It seemed to borrow heavily from Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Plus, it straight up stole a speech from Hamlet.

Yeah probably. I read a screenplay that was pitched by some guys, I can't remember the names. It was approved by Gaiman but it was pretty much your predictable comic book to movie fare, a bit lame. Gaiman certainly couldn't do worse.
Speaking of the Sandman, the GK Chesterton novels I've read would probably translate nicely into kinda of pompously arty comedies. I like The Man Who Was Thursday and The Ball and the Cross.

Well it's like lord of the rings cause it has elfs and dwarves...but lot's of books involve these mythical creatures as well (sword of shanara series). And as far as harry potter goes, it was nothing like it except the said a word when they used magic. I thought the author did a good job (especially sense he had that whole ancient language written out.)
So you say that it's gonna be a movie? It'll be intersting to see what happens....

I just checked out that link (for the Eragon movie) and it looks horrible so far. It says that the author is going to be acting in the movie as well? That sounds really stupid especially if he has no acting skills or anything.
But anyway, I'd like to so the Artemis Fowl Series become movies. I know that its supposed to be filming right now, but they said its been filming for a long time, and theres not much information about it. I'm wondering if they decided not to do it at all?

It's like Harry Potter in that some unknown common person becomes the savior of the world (though this isn't the first time this plot design has been used) and the magic, and it's like Lord of the Rings basically because it's about this group, a fellowship if you will (that will grow in numbers as they go, with elves and dwarves), off to destroy this super evil ruler, and are even being chased by said ruler's own henchmen along the way, as in LotR. The kid's mentor is like Gandalf and/or Dumbledore too.
Not to mention the title character sounds suspiciously similar to Aragorn.
I give him credit for crafting such a world (however unoriginal) at his age, and for his ability to write a decent book. I look forward to the movie, just, his work seems heavily borrowed to me.

I heard recently about the new chronicles of narnia movie, it looks good, I hope they do movies for the other 6.
Well, I'm not sure anybody will have heard of this, because it's kind of a childish novel, it's called Montmorency. I thought it was really interesting when I read and think it would be made into a really good movie. It's about this guy named Montmorency, who is put into prison for getting caught in a robbery. When he was caught, he fell through a glass cieling or something like that and had to get stitched up. Anyways, he eventually gets let out, and starts as a dual identity. By day he plays a rich man, and by night he goes out and uses the sewers as transportation to places he steals from. Anyways, I thought it was a neat idea, that would be an interesting movie.

Mel Bay's Beginner Guitar books would all by amazing as movies.
BTW, the animated Hobbit movie is hilarious. I recommend it to anyone who wants to see a ridiculously stupid and funny movie.
And I'd like to see From th Corner of His Eye and The Taking, both by Dean Koontz made into good movies.
A Dean Koontz film would be good if he's the guy I'm thinking of. Intensity or Odd Thomas would be good for that.

Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas could have been better, IMO. the book just gave soooo much more detail. A good book into a movie? Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck. Harvey Keitel in the title role. it wont happen...ever.

I want to see Spawn re-done right.
I'd also like to see a movie where someone takes the same approach to 1984 as was taken to Salo, where the movie is in response to the book rather than a retelling of it.
Also, if someone could base a movie off of Watership Down but with people, that could be really amazing. Or really suck. Same with The Plague Dogs.

I would like to see a decent attempt made at something by Pratchett. Not a Discworld book necessarily (I think The Turtle Moves may have triggered that connection, thanks Broken Angels).
I am reading Good Omens by Pratchett & Gaiman right now. I think, if the correct ingredients were added in appropriate proportion, it could make a good film.
The Phantom Tollbooth done by Burton? Sounds like a perfect combination to me. But there is a Phantom Tollbooth film already, you know?

A screenplay is being drafted, as far as I know. I'd very much like to see it.
There's the Da Vinci Code movie coming along with Tom Hanks and Leon, which might be good.
James Frey's A Million Little Pieces looks like it will also be adapted to film. It's an excellent book. So vivid, perfect for cinema.

I don't think that Pratchett would translate well to film.
Some much of his work relies upon the interpretation in the reader that solidifying scenes and characters in a film would absolutely ruin it for so many people. That being said the animated screenplays that have been produced, Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters I think, weren't all that bad.
I just think that a Pratchett film would be far too limited, and you couldn't really deviate much from the script without making it too un-Pratchett so it would just be fleshing out images in the readers' minds, which as I already said would ruin it.
I also think that it would end up being something like the Film adaptation of The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galazy. Overall it wasn't exactly a bad film it just completely missed the Douglas Adams sense of humour.

Isn't that the problem with adapting any book to film?
I can imagine it working really well. Pretty much any Pratchett book you care to name features strong, thought provoking themes, well drawn characters, a hectic plot, drama, and frenetic action. I think there is a wealth of material offered by his books that could translate well. You'd want a creative director though. I wonder if that other Terry could pull it off? Perhaps.
