I love these guys, from the amazing screaming, lovely harmonies and heavy music. everything about them is great.

One of my favourite hardcore bands.

Favourite songs :

Pretty picture of a broken face
Patience and Prudence

I only have Cryonics but it's awesome.

Sorry, if there is another thread similair, but i've checked and haven't seen any.

So, thoughts on them ?

I'd say their first ep is their best.

a new set of lungs is amazing. to me the recording quality fits perfectly with the songs.

this is one of my favorite bands, and definitely my favorite of the genre. i have a new set of lungs, cryonics, and fair trades and farewells. i like the other two better than fair trades, but there isn't a song on any of them that i don't like. i couldn't even begin to pick a favorite song, but the song i listen to most is probably frozen by tragedy. when i am relaxing i can listen to that song over and over.

07-12-2005, 09:28 AM
"Fair Trades" is probably my favorite, the energy, intricacy, and heart are all foregrounded really niceley on it, while the other records seem a little muddled by comparison. A lot of bands don't hold up well against that degree of slickness, but Hot Cross is clearly competent enough that it suits them well.

I wonder if they will get another guitarist to stick with the duel guitars.

Electric Ocean
07-12-2005, 09:37 AM
Nah, they said on their website they're sticking as a four-piece and the new stuff only has one guitar in it.

syurix
07-12-2005, 09:38 AM
If the bass gets more manic and higher in the mix, they can probably get away with not finding a new second guitar, personally, I think the deuling guitars are part of what makes "fair trades" so compelling, cause it's visceral in a really intriguing way. If they just got for the gut with low bass and full chords, I don't think it'll be as intriguing.

Electric Ocean
07-12-2005, 09:40 AM
Yeah I hope their new stuff won't be too much different to Fair Trades. Apparently they are in the process of writing a new LP and EP for release in early '06.

love this band, recently got cyronics at last, can't stop playing it.fav songs are: figure 8, a tale for the ages, putting the past right off a new set of lungs and patience and prudence...but mostly everything they have done has no faults

conniption
07-13-2005, 07:43 PM
i have "cryonics" and a "new set of lungs", and "cryonics" is much better because there is more exposure of backup/secondary vocalists. Although "a new set of lungs" is still wicked good. My favorite songs are a tale for the ages and fortune teller. I still need to pick up "fair trades..."

Hardcore punk? They're emo, no question about it :p

They're seriously amazing. I started listening to them (Solanka was the first song I heard of them) because they sounded a bit like The Fall of Troy and it's what got me into emo.

I don't find Fair Trades to be as emotional as Cryonics. Billy doesn't really scream much either. Its still very good though. The riffs are faster and more progressive. I like Cryonics a lot better though.

Must revive this thread.

I haven't heard anything new for a while that's left me slack jawed and held my interest for so long. I like the vocal harmonies a lot; I think they could do better with both more guitar and vocal harmonizations. Fortune Teller is a badass song, along with "Pretty Picture of a Broken Face". "Fair Trades and Farewells" hasn't been as impressive as Cryonics for the moment and it sounds like they rehash a lot of the guitarwork throughout the EP. But minor flaws aside, both smashing releases.

Fairtrades doesn't beat Cryonics. Cryonics is def their best release. Check out their new songs at their myspace. I think the new album will come close to Cryonics, because the new stuff rules.

I've only heard a few songs, but they were good. I should get an album sometime.
