I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to set up a garage band in a 10x10 space so that you dont lose your hearing. Any tips or hints are welcome. Also any cheap ideas on how to keep us and an old fender tube amp cool too would be helpful to. Thanks ladies and gentlemen!

I am in the same situation. I am in my basement and I have a wicked small space as well. For setup you probably know this, but obviously put the drums in the back since they are the loudest. Then work from there, ya know? Then the guitars and bass player come next and probably just put the amps in front of the drums so you can hear yourself and not just hear the drums, a problem we had in my band. If you want you could probably face the drums if you want so you can have an idea of what everyone's doing. Hopefully this helped a bit and not old imformation.

yeah my band has the same problem. My drummer has this 'bandhouse' which is a little house he built outside from his real house. It's about 2.5m x 6m. It get's pretty loud in there.

I'd say, just get earplugs and tough it out, unless you have a chat to your drummer and ask him to play softer :p

Earplugs are the way to go. You can get them for very cheap, too.

Additionally, every rehearshal space is a little different, so placing everything in the room is probably going to be a matter of experimentation. I do suggest that set things up so that everyone in the room can see everyone else as they play, however: that helps keep things moving during the actual playing.

10 meters or 10 foot???

Earplugs are great, get some hearos.

Have everyone put their amps in the corners, facing inwards and the drummer in the corner, that way you're not directly facing the amplifier that's closest to you, yours. Plus, you're able to keep eye contact and see what everyone else is doing.

Tip: To see a great rehersal setup, watch the Metallica - St Anger DVD.

Get a cheap fan for the amp.

Rock on dude.
