[EDIT: Updated new version of song to reflect suggestions given below. Have a listen. Let me know what you think.]

Hi there,

I just recorded a new song. It kind of has an acoustic mixed with heavy distortion electric guitar sound. It's called "Behind Lucid Windows".

I think it's pretty good, but of course it's my song so it's kind of hard to be objective.

I'd really appreciate it if you had a listen and gave me some feedback/constructive criticism. I played all the instruments myself, so don't be too harsh. ;)

Here's the link.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me out.

what were you using for precussion? Its not bad without that, i would use something lighter like a closed hat and rim clicks

Hey thanks for listening. Those are fake drum tracks. I kinda liked them. But yeah I see that they are sorta out there.

You're spot on man! :) That's is really the reason why I posted this. I wanted to see if the drum tracks were working. Now that I'm listening to it a day later, I totally agree with you. I'm going to record some real drums in an hour or so. I'll post it after I get it mixed again.

Thanks.

Good:
Singing (not bad actually using notes *gasp*)
Guitar (nice steady strumming and not pure crap alright)
Drums (pretty good fit for your song being that there fake)

Bad:
Levels (turn everything down abit espcially the drums ouch)
Distortion (turn it down too aim for a crunch sound then a heeavy sound)
Recording (ok but it could be better some spots were tone wasnt great)

Ugly:

The drums

They sounded really bad with the rest of your instruments and made the song bad as a whole you change or get rid of those drums and this could be a good song :thumb:

Hey guys! Thanks for your awesome help. I've recorded some real drums for it and I've remixed everything to reflect your suggestions. I think that right now it's really good.

Please, have another listen and let me know what you think.

Thanks again! :)

i thought it was really good, except the drums in the intro, once the singing started they were good, but before that, ehhh.

other than that, great job

Thanks!

And thanks for the suggestion. I might just take out the drums on the intro and just have the acoustic guitar track going during the intro.

This site is really very helpful! Keep it coming!

I'm sorry for this shameless bump in the pursuit of dirty, dirty self-promotion...

Anyone?

I really liked this song its really good both guitar and vocals. Im really digging the rhythm tooo!

The only thing that i can comment is about the overall recording, im no expert but the only thing i found a little bit strange is that the acoustic guitar is really high! and the voice tends to get behind the guitars most of the time.

I can barely hear the drums and i dont know if its a reverb sound on the drums but it makes the drums sound out of phase with the rest of the tune.

Anyway im diggin the song and really like that its an original tune so keep up the good work...hopefully ill be able to record some originals too once i manage to write lyrics.

Good job!

Hi there,

Thanks a lot for your positive feedback and crit.

The computer speakers that I was mixing it on had a really powerful bass output. So I guess that I may have overcompensated a bit on the acoustic track to get it over the bass and the bass on the drum track.

Big thanks to you guys! I'm remixing it some more using your suggestions and I am really pleased with it. You've been very helpful.

Thanks!
