ok, im trying to record drums for my band. we are using a sm57 on the snare, a beta52 on the bass drum, and 2 57s for stero overheads (meh, cant afford condensors). but anyway, I think we have a very good sound, on a fairly small budget, but the only thing I can't figure out is how to make it sound more like a studio recording rather then just my drummer playing in his basement. I think there is too much reverb/echo in his basement, it is finished, but the walls are still concrete. Do you think hanging blankets around the walls would help? I want a reverbery sound, just not so much the reverb the basement gives off. I'd rather be able to control the reverb....kinda like on the Master of Puppets cd. I love the way the drums sound on that cd

the floor is already carpeted though, the walls are the only things that are concrete, and therefore reverbery

yeah try isolating him , hang blankets wherever you can to try and make him surrounded. Like a square/rectangle around his kit.
