How many songs do you think you need for a gig. Me and my band are struggling getting these songs and our demo done. We are only 13 years old but we have 3 songs and a demo that we can record very soon. One problem is we have no time to do these things because our drummer and our singer are brothers and they have to babysit everyday in the summer on week days. And another reason we can't get anything done is because when we are talking and working things out our drummer just keeps on playing loudly and it's hard to get anything done with the drums alweays going. What do you think we should do?

First, get rid of the drummer if he can't be mature and serious about the band.

tell the drummer you can't work with him doing that all the time, record on weekends.

Who cares? He's immature and isn't focused on the band. He needs to go

Get a new lead singer too?
I mean, I had to quit a two man group called Honor Among Thieves becuase the drummer couldn't take anything seriously. He was a cool guy, and was good at the drums, but we would only practice about 20 minutes.
If they aren't devoted, you have to get rid of them.
Try to talk to the lead singer to maybe make him stay, even though his brother is gone, or try to have him talk to his brother. Something needs to change, regardless.

You need to just give up your silly dreams of being a rock star and quit acting like an idiot. GROW UP!

Link's don't matter. To hell with it if he's the guy's brother, the singer won't object unless he too is an idiot.

about the number of songs ... having 3 originals and doing a few covers is fine

the number of songs youll need depends on how long a set youre expected to play and how long your songs are.
as for the drummer, either tell him not to be an annoying fool, or get a new one.

yep...grow up. Part of that is also being mature enough to communicate whats bothering you. If you can't get this idea to your drummer...what do you expect later? Or tell his brother to tell him. Say it jokingly or something but you must let him know.
Songs for a gig...well depends on the gig length. If youre in a talent show or open mic night you might not need more than three....I would say have five or more. Hell just keep writing till it doesnt matter. It shouldnt take forever and a day to write new material.

My band has the exact same problem and we sacked the kid. We're just two people now but we have made 10 origional songs since the departure of our drummer (3 months ago) and have our eyes open for a new one.
