This is a Poll. It is by opinion

Voted Banks, but I think Peter Schmichael deserves to be one of the options.

They're all great keepers, I didn't realise you were deliberately only having 5 options. But I'd say he's better than Shilton.

Playing 4-4-2:

1. Schmeichel
2. Carlos Alberto
3. Maldini
4. Beckenbauer
5. Moore
6. Platini
7. Jarzinho (could he play on the right?)
8. Cruyff
9. Pele
10. Maradona
11. Puskas

Great team :thumb:

I always thought Maldini made a better centre back, than full back, but there's no doubting his quality.

Anyway, my team, again playing 4-4-2:

GK - Banks
RB - Carlos Alberto
LB - Maldini (I complain, but I can't think of anyone better :p )
CB - Beckenbauer
CB - Moore
RM - Jarzinho
LM - Finney
CM - Platini
CM - Pele
CF - Maradona
CF - Henry

I'd vote for Schmeichel, although from them it's Gordon Banks. I'd definitely put Schmeichel above Maier, Kahn and Shilton, anyway. Yashin and Banks definitely deserve to be on the poll, although as I never saw them play while they were actually still playing I don't know if I can really compare them.

/me picks best team for the hell of it.

1. Schmeichel
2. Carlos Alberto
3. Maldini
4. Beckenbauer
5. Moore
6. Platini
7. Jarzinho (could he play on the right?)
8. Cruyff
9. Pele
10. Maradona
11. Puskas

Just thought I may as well throw that out there.

Have you like seen half of these players play? Like, honestly?

Puskas was 50's style... Pele 70's.. Jairzinho 70's?

Have you just based this on reputation aye?

And I would have Zidane in place of Jarzinho or Platini for definite.

Are you saying that only people who play in today's style are good enough? And you're actually doubting Pele's class? Wow, you're the first person I've heard of to do that.

The reason these players have the type of reputation that they have is because they were great players. True the style of the game may have changed but those players he listed would still have been able to play in it. They played the way they did because it was the best way to beat the opposition.

Of course i'm questioning them.

Do you realise that Pelé scored like 8 goals in a game etc?? Defenders were a lot worse back then... A striker is lucky if he gets one goal a game nowadays.

I believe that today's game is far far far superior to what it was 30 years ago.. there has been so many advances in equiptment... styles... technique etc.

Tell me... have you ever saw a full match that Pele played in?? Well surely you can't just blindly believe the hype??

Voted for by the British public. Both young and old.
Notice the players in it. They span many decades and look who were the top 3.

Just because defender's were worse it doesn't necessarily follow that everyone who played in other position was worse too. And as for 'a striker is lucky if he gets one goal'... in most games strikers get plenty of opportunities to score. 'Luck' shouldn't play a part in whether they do score or not. Pele might have had 8 chances to score in the game you referred to and took them all.

I believe that today's game is far far far superior to what it was 30 years ago.. there has been so many advances in equiptment... styles... technique etc.

I'm not denying that there have been many advancements in the game. But some of them have made the game far easier to play. Have you tried kicking a football from the 70's compared to today? It's far harder to impart swerve and suchlike onto it, due to the fact that it's so much heavier. However, I do believe quite fervently that had the great players of the 60's, 70's and 80's been somehow transported to this day and age, then they would would still have dominated games like they did back in the day.

Tell me... have you ever saw a full match that Pele played in?? Well surely you can't just blindly believe the hype??

And, yes I have see Pele play. I've seen every match from the '66 and '70 World Cups. I know it's not a lot, but they're the only matches I've had the opportunity to watch. But, from those, I do believe the hype is justified.

Kahn is my (soccer) hero so I have to vote for him.
