View Full Version : The case for steroids

So for those of you with HBO, this months edition of Real Sports has a story about steroids. But its not what think. It is a story including testimonials from doctors and long term users of steroids who claim there steroids, taken correctly by healthy adult males, are not as harmful as people think. Its actaully a rather interesting story. They say that absolutely no long term study has been conducted that connects steroids to severe illness or death. After going through case files, they have found only 12 links of death to steroids, and those show minimal evidence at best. They got a statement from football player Lyle Alzata's(sp?) doctor saying his brain cancer was not linked to steroids. After seeing the other side of this argument, I must say its rather convincing.
I'm usually quicker to go with the experts who go against the grain. I mean, they must truely feel there are no side effects to steroids to proclaim it on national tv, considering they would have more to lose. Its very easy for doctors to just go with the flow and preach the same old rhetoric, but these guys must really have a strong feeling on the subject to say these things.
So if anybody gets a chance to watch it, or finds any information on the case for steroids, I recommend checking it out, because its always good to get both sides of the issue, so you at least can make up your own mind. This is, btw, only applicable to healthy adult males. Not kids or women.

Let me use your logic for a second 402.
I believe people should not be able to take gatorade during a match if every other person is not taking it...
I'm not a massive fan of roids, yet I can see some sports allowing them in the future.

So all those those people who fukked up their body with steriods, and suffered greatly due to side affects, were just making it up? Or what?

The problem with roids is not that it kills people. It makes you much more susceptable to long term health problems. You become much more prone to injuries (think Juan Gonzalez and Jason Giambi who both have been on the DL for something different every week).
To play at the top level you shouldn't be forced to take a substance that will cause you to severely harm your short term and long term health.

Well, in a way, yes. People get sick all the time. If a person gets sick who happend to be on steroids, it doesn't mean its because of the steroids. A study was done giving adult males a large dosage of testosterone for an extended period of time, and the only side effects found was acne in some participants. And I am not even just talking about sports here. First of all, if they were legal, then it would not be cheating, because everybody has the opportunity to take them. If you want to take it that far, then you could say any athlete who has taken asprin to get them through a game is a cheater. Even if they aren't great for sports due to injuries, which I will admit i've seen it, they are good for people who just want to get bigger and work out.

Gatorade contains sugars. Your body uses sugars in your system during exercise. Gatorade gives more sugar to the depleted system of the body, therefore giving it more fuel. So gatorade does enhance performance.
And it hydrates and tastes good.

1, NOTHING hydrates better than water
2, your body should have more than sugar/fuel/ in already before you work unless your running a 72 hour marathon

123 i went to the gym the other day and there was a man that looked like arnold schwarzneggar (sp?) in his old days, and he struggled to lift 12 kg which is really weak, he was puffing and panting and moaning because he couldnt lift it, now thats what steroids do to your life, they destroy your body, your better off just being yourself, i mean why put yourself through it?
self consciousness is a big factor, but still just be yourself
