This will go a lot like the All-NBA teams, obviously, but the difference is that we will carry:

Two catchers
Two first basemen
Two second basemen
Two shortstops
Two third basemen
Five outfielders
Five starting pitchers
Five relief pitchers

So here is part one: the catchers. Vote only for two.

why is Piazza on that list, he shouldn't be compared to Bench, Fisk and Berra

I voted fot Berra and Fisk

Look at his stats and tell me that Piazza shouldn't be compared with those catchers.

He's a career .313 hitter with 386 home runs, and 1192 RBI's. He's up there.

I voted for Fisk and Berra.

Yeah he can hit, but being best catcher, or at any position, isn't just hitting, its fielding also, and Piazza has the worst arm behind the plate, and is constantly injured

Still can't leave the best hitting catcher of all time off the list.

He has a below-average arm but has very good range and calls a good game, so he is a solid defensive catcher. And he is also, y'know, the best hitter in the history of the position.

I voted for Carlton Fisk and Mike Piazza.

I have a feeling a lot of people arent voting for Piazza because its "uncool" to like him. How can anyone say the best offensive catcher EVER doesnt deserve to be mentioned amongst the best at his position??

Same here, but it is really a shame that Bill Dickey didn't make that poll. This is not just the Yankee fanboy in me coming out, look at his numbers, he was very comparable to Mickey Cochrane.

Fisk and I-Rod

I was on the fence between Rodriguez and Piazza, Rodriguez's arm won it for him.

Rodriguez and Campanella are the best all-around catchers in the history of the game.

if this were an all-defensive team, i'd go henry blanco and mickey cochran.

all-offense: Piazza and Josh Gibson, with Bench and I-Rod just missing the boat.

And Piazza is an atrocious defensive catcher. Being able to call a decent game and having average range does not make you a solid defensive catcher. I've seen managers send pitchers on Piazza. Having a below-average arm is one thing, but his arm is and has always been a liability. If he had come up in an AL organization, he never would've caught a game outside of an emergency.

^ he would catch in a NL ballpark, and he dosen't have a below average arm, he has a completely awful arm behind the plate

that's what i said. read much?

i said his arm is worse than below average (aka a liability), i said that his arm is so bad, he never would've been a catcher if DHing had been an option.

There's much more of an argument for Johnny Bench rather than any other catcher up there.

14 Time All-Star
National League MVP in 70 and 72
Rookie of the Year in 68
10 Time Gold-Glove winner
'76 World Series MVP
389 Home Runs
.476 Overall Slugging Percentage

The man was all-around solid. I feel it's a no-brainer to vote for him.

No, Pudge Fisk is leading in votes. Then Yogi, then Ivan Rodriguez, then Piazza, and than Campy and Gibson with two apiece.

I can't believe the lack of love for Gibson...I know i'm going to be the only one voting for Oscar Charleston when the OF voting rolls around.

Wow, I misread the poll. My bad. Gibson isn't getting the votes because people don't know him, and let's face it, his power is pretty much a legend, there aren't any statistics that back him up. That doesn't hurt him in my eye, but a lot of people probably just don't know who he is. I might have voted him instead of Bench if I really thought about it, but I tend to vote on impulse. Piazza shouldn't be getting that many votes. Defensively he's a disgrace IMO. We won't start an arguement about this though, I've argued about Piazza with friends before and those arguements tend to get pretty heated. I still can't believe Bill Dickey didn't even get enough love to make the poll. How was the organized btw?

Well, you can only get 10 players in a poll. I think Illmatic did a good job considering the lack of available spots.

When will part two start?

It's too hard to vote for the best baseball players ever since baseball has been around so long.

So i'm not going to vote because I am too ignorant on this.
