For a while I have been saving up for a computer. Tuesday I will have about $1000. I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a barebones set up that would be $1000-1300, good for both Gaming(Reason for not posting this in the pit :shifty: ), and recording music. I have came up with a few set ups myself, but I am not the brightest when it comes to hardware so I would like to see what you guys would recommend.

For games, you want more than 512 MB of RAM. Much more. Get a decent videocard, I know Nvidia just released a new one. Get Nvidia or ATI Radeon. The ATI Radeon 9800 Pro is the best ATI on the market right now I think. Get a decent soundcard and surround sound if you're into serious games, or just want your music to sound good. I have an Audigy Soundblaster made by Creativelabs EAX and 5 speaker surround sound and for games and music it's the shiznit. Get a 52x or faster CD Drive. Get a big-*** harddrive. Get at least a 19" monitor. That's what I have and the PC next to me is a 17 and it sucks. The 19 is amazing. You can set your resolution to 1600x1200 which makes everything uber small but it's crystal clear. Make sure you know how to install the hardware and the software for the hardware, or take it to the shop. When you get everything installed (all the hardware) get all the Windows Updates, Ad-Aware, and any Anti-virus and you'll be good to go.

Seagate 80 Gigabyte

Floppy Drive
You can get that for roughly 900 bucks. Some options you can tweak based on what you think you'll need. Bigger Harddrive, better videocard, Windows64, it's all up to you. Also the companies are all up to you, that is just what I recommend.

wtf are you talking about? 9800's are outdated; they're years old.
Go to Ibuypower.com. You can customize a PC for a price that destroys Dell/Alienware/rapeyourwalletPCcompany.
For gaming, have a gig of memory (1024 mb), a 6600GT videocard, and an A64 3000+, since your budget is ~$1000. 3000+ is good for just about anything; faster processors are good, but they're difficult to afford. It's mostly for the e-wang anyway.
160-gigabyte hard drives are a pretty good value. I'm bored with this post so I'll end it here.

Get Reiner's setup, except with an nForce4 chipset and a 6600GT. An Audigy ZS 2, too, if you can afford it.
