Howdy everyone.
I had a football (Aussie Rules) game this afternoon, and maybe in the third quarter, during play, I ended up on my knees and some sonofabitch rams into the back of me, pushing me down. This resulted in myself doing the splits, which resulted in some pain to the groin.
Well, the point of the thread is to talk about injuries. I have some queries:
1. If you suffer an injury, do you go see your GP or a physio? I've never been to a physio before.Usually, when I get hurt or injured, I just shrug it off and rest myself.
2. How do you know if your injury is serious or not?
That's all. Thanks to any replies.

If you think it's bad, I would get it checked, you really can't lose by getting it checked, with a ligament, the only way you can tell if its a pull or a tear is to get x-ray taken, my friend on my hockey team completely tore his ACL, but he was walking fine on it with only a little limp, but he needs surgury, so if I were in your position, I would get a x-ray taken and see whats wrong with it.

I don't know if the Aus system is like NZs but here you'd go to a GP first and he'll refer you to a physio. It's much cheaper that way because we're covered by ACC which subsidises treatment in the case of an accident.
I've never had a real bad leg injury but I got smacked in the ribs a couple of years ago and that sucked real bad. Couldn't even breath properly without pain.

Hmm..
I've broken my elbow playing football (nearly at the growth plate).
5 stitches from bashing my head on some bleachers while doing summer training.
Broken my foot twice playing soccer. I didn't know it was broken the first time, so I played an entire high school season on it (taped it up, took some Advil), then broke it badly 6 months later in a qualifying tournament while sliding to block a shot.

Last year in football I sprained my neck really badly. I couldn't even move my neck to the right side at all for about 4 or 5 days. Having huge neck spasm is worse than you can imagine. It was probably my wrost sports injury. I just went to the doctor, got some pain killers and a neck brace.

I haven't had any bad injuries, but I had 2 that hurt a lot, I was playing roller hockey in the league, and shoulder pads aren't mandatory, I was on a breakaway and the Goalie tried to poke-check the ball away from me and hit inbetween 2 of my wheels, I ended up hitting my shoulder on the concrete, It hurt.
and the other, I was playing a hockey game I went to block a shot and it hit me right in the ankle from a few inches away, then later in the shift, basicly the same play I got another slapshot to the ankle, that shot wasn't as hard but still after you've gotten a slapshot to the same spot a minute before its gonna hurt.

I dislocated my knee during a game last season.
I hobbled off the field and they popped it back in and gave me a brace at halftime and I kept playing.
Broke my nose at a collision at home plate, also broke my thumb when I was pitching from a comeback hit.

You can try to wear ankle supporters, or just try taping your ankle.

I actually saw a teammate of mine snap both his bones in his lower leg during a soccer match 2 years ago. He should've been backed off a full 10 yards from the free kick, which was from about 35 yards out, but he was on the side of the ball. The shooter took off at the ball, so did Eric. Eric slid out to basically block the shot, and instead tipped the ball away before the shooter could get to the ball, and took the full blast of this guy's foot straight to the shin, cracking his shinguards in two and both of the bones in his lower leg. The crazy thing is that he tried getting back up even after he looked down and saw his lower leg bent like an 'L.'

Jesus Titty ****ing Christ
My worst sports injuries are a variety of pulled muscles and getting hit in the face with a hockey puck.
Its not as bad as it sounds though. Me and a friend were messing around, someone skated in and took a shot anyways, even though my helmet had fallen off, and it hit right above my top lip and below my nose. All I got was a bloody nose and a few of my teeth were loosened up for a day or so.

So basically your entire knee is shot? I know people who have torn each of those separately and they are messed up. That would sukck. I don't know what a plantar fascitis is, but I know broken bones generally heal pretty well. But torn knee ligaments leave you messed up for a while.

plantar fascitis is nasty.
Yes it is...I always thought it sounded kinda wussy until I got it and found out what it was.
i am milk: plantar fascitis is an inflammation of the tissue in arch of the foot...it hurts like hell around the heel and makes it difficult to even walk.
So basically your entire knee is shot?
my knees are shot :\ ...I've torn ligaments in both of them.

Ah, That has to suck. What sports were the ones that shot your knees?
Or were they all Basketball?

I tore a ligament in my finger.
It hurt like hell, and everytime I bent or applied pressure to it, it would hurt more.
I play guitar so it sucked because I was unable to play.
It took over a year to fully heal, but I played through it. It happened in a football practice when my finger got caught in someone elses jersey and they ran off with my finger still caught which tore the ligament.

I'm fortunate to have never ever broken a single bone in my body.
And if when I do end up with injuries, I usually just ask my mom or my older sister first (they're both nurses). However if it is serious, I head to the doctor's. Even then, the worst "injury" I've gotten were shin splints from track & field last year.

Whoops, sorry about that.
Bruised a rib last night, fractured my radius on the growth plate. It is an interesting story so here it goes. It would be better for you if you know hockey. Pulled my shoulder really bad during a hockey game, and I still get pains if i throw something really hard, and that was last December. Almost broke my ankle blocking a shot right to the laces of my skate. And that is it for the painful injuries. I deal out quite a few.
So here is the story.
So I play defense, I went into the corner to go and get the puck, i picked up the puck near the door. I got hit instantly and flew into the boards with the other guy still pushing me. I flew into the door of the boards, the door moved back leaving the door frame. My glove slid straight into the frame full speed. Compression fracture.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I thought this thread had died a painful death along time ago.
Yeh, groin turned out all right (after visiting my GP).
BTW, I frequently roll my ankles; usually, it's just because I plant my foot in a ditch at an awkward angle but sometimes, I am just running along on a flat surface and I will just slip and roll my ankle. Is this a problem with my shoes (With my current shoes, I've rolled my ankles 8-10 times in last few months) or is it just because I am uncoordinated?
Doesn't taping ankles or wearing ankle supports really restrict movement of my feet?
Worst injury I ever dished out was when I was playing cricket. I was batting, and this jackass bowler rolled the ball to me. I decided to give it a good whack. Unfortunately, the wicketkeeper had come up behind me to retrieve the ball. I swung at the ball with all my might, and the bat swung round to hit the wicket keeper square on the chin.
I missed the ball in the end.

iv split my eye open a couple of times which is the best injury(if there is one) because its easy to get sympathy n you can go for further sympathy with a good story

to badtaste:
yes, taping and wearing ankle supporters do limit movement, but it shouldn't affect you that much. You'll still be able to do most of the motions in most sports.
