This Japanese freeware title is easily one of the best games I've played in ages. It's extremely polished and just generally has been designed perfectly - it seems more like a SNES classic than a 6 month old PC game.

I could draw comparisons to games like Metroid for the general nature of the game, Megaman for the bosses and pace, and various RPGs for the story and platformers for obvious reasons, but it's a really original game. There are loads of side-quests, and three endings including the obligatory "good" ending that is so so so much harder to get and easily warrants a second playthrough.

Download it, especially if you have a controller. I'm using a Gamecube pad and I still haven't managed to complete the final level of the "good" ending (edit: just did it now :D), and I can't imagine what it'd be like if I was using a keyboard.

So yeah, discuss or something.

Jesus, I just beat it.

It is nearly as entertaining as C:SOTN.

It doesn't play like SOTN, but it feels like it for some reason. It plays more like metroid.

Not quite. It isn't as long and not as many items, but its still fun as hell.

The english patched version of the game kept crashing so I had to save before the crash in the english version, load in the Japversion, pass the crash point in the jap version, and load in the english version. It wasn't too bad except one part where I had to miss some text and I had to consult a walkthrough.

I got the good ending without even trying.

Haha, glad you liked it. I haven't actually played Castlevania: SOTN, but seeing as you keep mentioning it and every review I can find says it's amazing, I'll keep a look out for it.

That crashing bug seems odd, no idea why it did that. It was fine for me.

Well done getting the good ending too, I'm trying to decide whether or not to bother doing a speedrun for hell (or whatever the last level is supposed to be called). I just saw a video of it being done in 2:17, albeit with a turbo controller, and it's scary.

It wasn't really a major problem. It always happened less than 15 seconds away from a save point.

If there hadn't been a walkthrough the one point may have kept me for a long while.
