Write about how you and your siblings always seem to fight, yet always seem to get things right in the end. (If you have siblings)
If you have no siblings, write about how you can jump off a cliff...now.

how about writing about how you need to come with your own ideas and not depend on other people in stupid threads. i like that one, definetly

The quickest route to inspiration: read. You heard me right. It depends on what sort of songs you want to write what you should read.
Do you want to make socio-political songs? Pick up a newspaper and go to some news sites.
Do you want to write about emotional tragedies? Read some Shakespeare and Greek plays.
Do you want to write fantasy-driven power metal anthems? Read some Robert Jordan, Tolkkien, Bradbury, etc.
You have to find a source that inspires you.
I like to tell stories. Usually about the darker side of human existence. For that, I tend to delve into all manner of esoteric non-fiction subjects and read similarly dark novels.

or if you want to write punk songs, just go out and have a good time with your friends, and write about it when you get home. I usually write lyrics just before i go to bed for some reason. Thats when im recapping my day and all the ideas flow to my head.

My point is that you can't rely on other people feeding you inspiration. You have to (gasp) actually go out there and let it find you. Reading about things you're interested in is one of the most effective ways to do that.

I cant remember who said it but someone once said something to the extent of i will write till the blood drips from my pen...now that could be translated a numbe rof different ways but for the purpose of this thread; just start writing, write whats on your mind first thing that pops in. and take it from there if you dont like it keep going. Its painful and boring but you will eventually come up with a line or two worth while and if you get a few pages full of that bull**** then you can take the lines you like and incorporate them into other works. If you really cant write, write about not being able to write: Ive been sitting at this desk for days, I long for an answer in so many ways...see look at that you just have to sit down and right if you dont like ryhming or dislike not ryhming try it. Find refuge in your discomfort- afterall most works are stemmed from discomfort. And if you right long enough you will learn from your discomfort.

The best inspiration is to write...
Write when you have writers block...
I mean really... what can break writers block better than writing..
write about anything write about writing..
write about not writing
write about anything

does that mean we can close the thread?
here's my addition to this little barrel of silly idea;
to be a good writer, of any kind, you need experience in life. i'm not saying that the best authors/lyricists are the older ones, that's bollocks, but the more you've experienced, the more inspiration and subject material you have, and the more you know about what you're writing. and read a lot too. read some Noam Chomsky, and read some Howard Zinn.
