View Full Version : SWR LA-12 Combo Amp

I went out and bought this amp because I was getting sick of the crappy tone of my other pratice amp (I have a Crate BX-25). So I went to a local music shop and I had to choose between a Fernandez 30watt amp or the SWR... Needless to say, I went with the SWR. :thumb:

Anyways, to my review...

I paid $180 for this amp at a local shop. They discounted the price because the amp was sitting in the shop for a few months and no one (obviously) bought it.
It sells for $249.99 on Musicians Friend.

Features: 9/10
This baby has 60 watts of power, a 12 inch speaker and the controls are really basic, volume, low, mid & high. Also it has tuner out, headphone jack, input and mix-in jack. It has two side handles (one on each side...) and weighs about 40lbs.

Sound Quality: 10/10
I played my Warwick Thumb through this amp and played with the eq a bit and was pleasantly suprised. First I bosted the mids and treble and slapped away and it had a great tone. I absolutly love the lows on this amp though. Makes my Warwick sound godly...
So far I haven't heard any distortion from the amp with it turned up 3/4s of the way like some of the other smaller amps I've played on.

Reliability: 8/10

I'll give it an 8 just because when I took it home it didn't break... Also, this amp seems pretty rugged, but only time will tell.

Looks: 9/10
It looks like an SWR. :thumb:
The cube shape with the gray grill on the front is appealing to me.

Overall Rating: 9
Considering it was pretty cheap for me to buy, it has an awesome sound and looks good I had to give it a 9. I would recommend this amp to everyone who is looking for a good pratice amp to mess around with.
