What exactly is Mumia Abu-Jamal? I know he's a political prisoner or something and Anti-Flag used to sing about him. But what were you listening to?

He was a Philadelphia journalist who wrote some of the first stories of large-scale police corruption. He was convicted of shooting a police officer, even though there were a few witnesses claiming that it was not him (you can make your own decision regarding his guilt, but from what I've read, it seems as if there's more evidence to say that he was innocent). He was convicted in front of one of the most notoriously unfair judges ever, who had, at this time, served more death sentences than any other judge currently "in the business." He sat on death row for years and years, all the while with thousands of people protesting the case, and calling for his release. Eventually he was taken off death row and as it currently stands, is serving life in prison.

The F.O.P. (Fraternal Order of Police) placed a boycott on all of his writings, and Mumia's story is pretty much the basis of the Erik Petersen song "Boycott Me!"

Chilled out? Not nessisarily. In fact, the majority of my top ten over all I would have to say no.

What exactly do you mean by chilled out, though?

You will soon find out that for someone that really likes music, I am the all time worst person at describing the music I listen to.

Her top 10 aren't really "chill" music as such. I'd describe them like this.

Freak out rock/jazz/avant-garde: Frank Zappa, Plastic People of the Universe, The Residents and Uz Jsme Doma. This stuff isn't chilled out. I guess They Might Be Giants could go here too, they are pretty quirky but poppy at the same time.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are chill-like if you have the right albums.

XTC is making plans for Nigel.

Infact, looking at my top 50 I don't really see any bands that are consistantly chill. You might enjoy some Zappa or some Heavy Vegetable, but at the same time their stuff can be the complete opposite of what you're looking for. the most mellow things I listen to I guess would be Sigur Ros and Labradford.
