Well i've been trying to get a band together for a long time. The problem was finding people. I finally found some people a few weeks ago but its not working out. Why? The guys are not serious enough. I've asked everyone I know and some people I don't know and still no luck. So i put a post online and got contacted by a 28 year old. I'm 17. What I am afraid of is if I am not talented enough to work with him so I don't know what to do. Has anyone else run into this or have any advice?

I definately wouldn't work with a 28 year old.

Just keep looking.

its true.

rape/abduct/kidnap/love...

its just too big a difference, i think.

for a start, you're probably still in education, he's probably doing well for himself in a job by now.

to be honest, i would flip that around and say the 28 yr old shouldn't work with the 17 yr old. it's clear that the 28yr old would be far more open minded and seasoned (assuming he's been playing for a decent amount of time)

that's not true, there's this band around here called Eternal gray, and there are guys like 28 years old and guys 17-18 in it and they all respect each other as if they were the same age

that's as may be, but you can't deny that the influences will be far apart and generally speaking the youngsters will be the more narrow minded party.

well from his email he seemed ok with it, and i like a lot of music that was made before i was even born. I am uncomfortable with the big difference but I just can't seem to find any other people who are serious enough. for example, my current drummer can never make it to practice and the guitarist seems like he just wants to spend alone time with me  where else can i look??

I say give the old man a chance, If you feel intimidated by how good he is, just tell him to come to a few practices and you can judge by that.

and even if he is heaps good.... how is that bad??? the intimidation will leave after 1 or 2 practices :)

I just thought of this, but something has to be up with him. There has to be a reason he can't get into a band with people closer to his age.

My last band consists of 2 16 years old(Me), a 18 year old and a 26 year old. It worked better then i thought. Althought the age difference did give some problems. If you really can't find anyone else then go for him but i think you'd be better with someone more your own age.

He's a homosexual rapist. Watch out. By all means, still play with him :)

And thats where open mindedness leaves you... online with nothing better to do than make jokes about things that apparently the narrow minded youngsters can and will become confused about and with that being said if he is better than you learn off of him or vice versa...
