I could see it being a pain in the ***.. what about decent pre-amping that a condenser deserves?

Of course. I mean a pre-amp for good tone. You'd want a decent preamp to be able to make use of the good frequency response and sensitivity of a condenser.

yes i suppose you would... now a usb pre amp...that would be so sweet... in fact just make everything usb and fire wire...*drools over usb mouse and usb keyboard

because there would be loss - too many stages of conversion. It's better to keep it analogue until possible.

Yes. But do we want that? have you ever asked yourself why all the big studios still record to open-reel analogue tape instead of to a hard-drive?

sounds like a way to increase cost in a product.

At some point, you need to do an A/D conversion. Even bad converters can cost a lot of money.

I'd rather wait and see how this pans out rather than buy into something that might be a gimmick.

I'd rather go through a nice analogue 414 and into an avalon vacuum tube preamp to tape. Then I'll do all the disgusting a/d conversion :p
