My friend and I have been doing music together for a few years now and we can't seem to find drummers. Several never came through with it. One went to college. And one became an alchoholic.
I was just wondering if you guys have any tips on really attracting drummers. Is putting an ad in the paper really going to do anything?
We have a pa system, equipment, covers learned, and material written and we still can't seem to attract any drummers.

Ridiculous situation :(
We're looking for one as well
It's really hard to find one
I can play drums pretty well, because I put in the hours (Not tooting my own horn I swear) but now in the band I'm leading (guitar / writing) we're having amazing difficulty finding one
So good luck dude :thumb:
Keep an eye out

These things seem to happen when you least suspect them. We were looking for almost a year, and then just gave up. After a few weeks stuff started happening, and we ended up getting a great drummer. My advice, colleges and music stores. Posting ads in the stores could find you a drummer. Scouting out music departments and asking teachers if they know anyone is another great idea. Putting an ad out in the paper didn't work for us, but try it anyways.

Good drummers are all around, you just have to scout 'em out. In your situation you shouldn't have a problem persuading a decent drummer to play for you.

Advertise at local music stores and on the internet.
Failing that, ask friends if they have friends who are drummers.
Failing that, find a local music school near you and hang out there asking everyone if they are a drummer or if they know one.
Failing that, smear yourself in vindaloo curry and lie motionless on the sidewalk outside your house. Drummers will think you are food and approach, whereupon they can be sedated and reprogrammed at your leisure.

if you have rehearsal rooms near you, or somethign similar, you should be able to put a notice up in there.
some drummer will see it, or someone who knows a drummer etc.
my band is also looking for a drummer, and thats one of the things we're going to do

Probably because they costs tens of thousands of dollars. Someone in my school plays double bass in the band, but thats it. Probably the only double bass player in the whole area.
We're thinking on working on the nonmotivated alchoholic who sucks at drums when she gets back from Europe.

Yeah, looking for a drummer (or bassist) can be tough sometimes. Ads will only go so far, in my opinion, word of mouth or internet works best. When my previous band couldn't find a drummer for almost 6 months straight, we almost called it quits. At that point I was asking every person I met if they were a drummer or if they knew one. One day at McDonalds I asked a girl "Are you a drummer?"
Her: "Yes."
Me: "Are you in a band? Want to join my band?"
Her: "I'm not good with a drum set, I'm more into marching band type stuff. But my brother is a drummer."
Haha, so we recruited him, and even though the band isn't together anymore... he's a great friend! :)

Maybe find a few drum teachers in your area, ask them for a few students who they think could cope with your band. Worth a shot.

My band couldn't find a drummer either, so we took a kid who had never had any musical lessons, gave him some sticks and told him to hit stuff. Hes not to bad. His feel needs work but he has a nice style.
