ah i cant wait till the new album comes out. i need to see them live too! ahhh. i heard the album comes out in february too, but thats too far away
nope they decided to record another song so its not february anymore...that was a guesstimate before they recorded that other song....no new guesstimates yet

yay! im listening to Reiver's Music! I just put a new needle on my record player. I've never listened to any of my AFI records before. However, AFI wasn't the first thing I put on. I had to go "this is the song my band's covering!" and turn on the Specials.

That has to be fun.

For some reason, I can't get my record player to work.

son of sam is great. i only found out about them like 2 months ago but now they are one of my favorites, i think they should do another album too. and that sucks that the new album's not coming out in february. now i have to wait longer! its already been almost 3 years!

maco
01-23-2006, 11:28 AM
so apparently the AFI EP, even though it's a 7" is 33 RPM. it sounded really funny on 45

trimblio
01-24-2006, 09:52 PM
do vynils sound about the same as cd's? i honestly havent heard a record player or anything

DaveToopes
01-24-2006, 10:53 PM
Yes, they do. Some people say it's a warmer, crisper sound. I think that it's just personal preference though. I don't own any vinyl, so I haven't ever compared the two.

maco
01-25-2006, 02:12 PM
Vinyl is capable of holding twice as much bass as a cd. I will attest to the fact that I definitely hear more bass on my records than on my cds (the vinyls sound like when you turn on bass boost on a cd...a little better actually...it's great for learning basslines). As well, cds burnt from mp3s are muddier than vinyl (and than bought-cds) because the encoding the computer does is not 100% precise.

Aside from that, putting a 33 RPM record on at 45 RPM is always a good laugh. Davey makes a good chipmunk.

trimblio
01-25-2006, 03:18 PM
thats cool, i might start getting vinyls then. yeah davey probably would make a good chipmunk

maco
01-26-2006, 05:55 PM
That is this thread. And 336 is out of print. There were 2500 pressed in each of 2 batches (ie. there are 5000 in existence). They can be found on eBay for $30-50.

What kinda stuff are you into to? I can't really help you with punk, but I've been checking out these recently

Pain of Salvation (Prog, but not on the overly solo-ish kinda level as Dream Theater. Remedy Lane is an awesome album with some very emotional vocal work and generally good song-writing).

Stream of Passion (I guess this would be called prog. Only actually heard this band yesterday. Amazing female vocalist, very haunting.)

VNV Nation (Electronic stuff ... I only have a few tracks as I'm awaiting one of their albums from Amazon but I've been hooked on what I have. AFI seem to like them as well).

02-11-2006, 06:15 PM
A friend of mine who owns most of their cds let me borrow Black Sails In The Sunset, Answer That And Stay Fashionable, Hallows Eve EP, and Sing The Sorrow. I've pretty much fallen in love with them ever sense.

My favorite would have to be Answer That And Stay fashionable. I also love BSINTS, they take a more serious approach.

Their newer stuff like Sing The Sorrow, I didn't really like at first, but I'm slowly starting to get into it. It's pretty good, I don't see why everyone hates it.

It took me until March 2005 to buy STS. I had a burnt copy until then, but then I found a Japanese import and had to buy it. I couldn't stand listening to it until then either. I got burnt out on GNG early on.

no, they'll never be recorded, just disappear. then some lyrics will be released in the next issue of Under the Rose. the couple that get recorded but not on the album may be released at a later date as part of an ep or for a soundtrack or something (like how rabbits are roadkill is on the myspace comp)

and april-may would be spring....they now say early summer (hopefully)

I've just discovered AFI recently... until then I've just been a big ska fan.

The only cd i've bought was the compilation that Nitro put out, Which I only recently figured out was a sort of Greatest Hits type deal.
When I asked My friends which album they thought I should get, they said Sing The Sorrow was their best. But seeing as my friends Have terrible taste in music I thought I'd ask the actual fans.

I have a question about one of AFI's songs. I bought Sing The Sorrow (unfortunently) and the only song I really like is Dancing Through Sunday. I was wondering is it Davey singing the whole song or what? Cause I like the voice at the begining and everything, but then he comes in w/ his normal high pitched voice.

davey sings everything except for some backround vocals. dancing through sunday is probably the best song on sts too. i guess you do have to get used to his voice. when i first heard of them awhile ago, the vocals were the only thing that was hard to like. but after a while you grow to love them. now he's my favorite singer

and i also just read that they are doing warped tour for sure, and bamboozle too, and then will be doing a huge headlining tour as well, with some of the dates inbetween the warped tour dates. and they are just doing warped to reach cities that they wont be going to on the headlining tour. so if you live by the cities they are doing warped in, then you should go to warped, or else you will have to travel a while to see them on the headlining tour.

Oh I get it, cool thanks. Yeah I live a few miles from SF and there's Warped Tour there every year, so I'll probably be going to that. A lot of other bands I like are on it too.
Does AFI play a lot of their old stuff on tour?

maco
03-13-2006, 11:11 PM
nope, they almost never play anything from before black sails. sometimes they play cruise control for the hell of it, but pretty much nothing that's not from the current lineup. and god called in sick today is pretty much the standard encore. i havent seen them, but this question's been asked enough times on the OMB

in other news, the new AFI single, "Miss Murder" will be out on the radio April 24-25 according to FMQB (http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=16770). This has also been investigated by AFISeries and confirmed. Also, Davey says that most places they're stopping on Warped will be as replacements for headline shows. So, if they're coming to you on Warped, go! because they probably won't be coming back in support of this album (unless ya know, it's like a year from now or something...but no time soon)

yes, I love the specials. I have 2 LPs, 1 12" single, and 3 7" singles of the Specials. AFI's the only band for which I have more vinyl. AFI's the only band I like better than the whole genre of ska.
