They said February, but I don't expect it then, I'd say probably April or May.
You mean cuz of how they push stuff back all the time? February is a year later than originally expected. This might actually be the final "date" as they'll be done recording in 2 weeks.
Flagjacket
10-15-2005, 11:51 AM
Well, even if they're done in two weeks there's still a bunch of stuff to go through. If it comes out in February, cool, they proved me wrong, but I still think that it'll take longer. Actually, I think mid March is a better guess now that I think of it.

On AFI's store page they have a picture with the bat thing on it, and they simply call it "bat logo" so I am assuming it has nothing to do with a Nephilim.

When I first thought about that, I thought "There's no way in hell I would buy that peice of shi't from a band that was once good but just lost it."

Davey, cuz he spent so much time in the hardcore scene. He knows how to hold his own in a pit. I don't know how well Gerard can slap that could beat one of Davey's punches.
Oh, and someone cupped Davey at Independent Days in Bologna. He slapped their hand on first attempt, bonked their head with the mic on second, and threw a few punches when they actually did grab him.

Sing the Sorrowis a bit of a change from their old stuff...and by a bit i mean a huge change. Their old stuff is very good in my personal opinion. Yeah, Davey's really strong. He exercises like all the time. I know it looks like he's got boobs in certain pictures, but that's just cuz he's got muscles there that aren't being flexed. And in any picture where he's got the tape on his arms you can see how big his arm muscles are.
The way I see their changes is that they're basically covering every aspect of punk. I mean, they did the punk > hardcore > post-hardcore/melodic hardcore (w/e you wanna call it) and now they're jumping to a different branch of the punk tree...punk > post-punk > goth (by which I mean Cure-goth and in some cases Bauhaus-goth....Blaqk Audio will probably take care of the VNV Nation EBM sort of stuff)

I'm not a big fan of AFI at all. I have most of their cd's but I rarely listen to em'. I just am never in the mood I guess?
Anyway, with the argument of what is better (older or newer), in my opinion- I thought Sing The Sorrow was great. It had catchy song after catchy song and how can you not enjoy that? I listened to it quite a bit before getting a bit tired of it.
Their older cd's- I don't care for them much at all. There are good songs here and there, scattered among the songs of each album. I could maybe name 3 songs off of 4 of the others albums I have of theirs. My favorite song, which got me into them in the first place was Total Immortal...
Anyway, I prefer their newer sound compared to their early days. Too me, it just sounds a hell of a lot better.
daveys a ****in axe man, i wouldnt want to be messin with adam though. if you lok at his arms on the MTV live Hard Rock performance his arms a pretty big.:thumb:

Alright, don't bitch about me reading fanfiction. This was actually recommended (as was the X-Files one) as being really good. It's none of that yaoi bull****. The Adam Carson Project (http://afifanfiction.tripod.com/outsider/theadamcarsonproject1.htm) is a murder mystery-ish thing. I mean, we know Adam's the killer, but by part 3 it gets to the point where you wonder exactly what Adam has to do with the murders.

Those aren't too recent then. The stomache went away after he got sick like a year and a half ago. The boob thing is just muscles not being flexed. Didn't you ever see that tae-bo dude? He's got really big boobs, but it's actually muscles. Still looks nasty though.

Hey guys, I've browsed the forum for a while and finally decided to sign up.
AFI are my favourite band, I got into them at the sts release (up until that point I didn't really care for music). Since then I've got all their older albums, and all the easily obtainable eps. Sts is still my favourite though, i have a soft spot for it so sue me ;P.

my afforementioned Afi obsessed girlfriend is not signed up but would like to say:
Everyone has their preferences, and if you like their older albums better, fine, but that doesn't mean their new ones aren't musically good. They are developing their style true to themselves, if they went where the money or the fans were they would have stayed "East bay Hard Core" or whatever. But there is no point in remaking "Shut your mouth" every time they go into the studio. If the new album is industrial inflicted, pop punk or country and western, give it a chance. Don't write bands off for progressing.

The first song I ever heard by AFI was Fall Children when I was watching a paintball video on the net. I was about 14 or 15 at the time and the energy I got from that song felt like nothing I have ever felt before. I really like how they've progressed in their style of music. From "Very proud of ya" to "The Art of drowning," every cd in between has its own unique sound. Its almost like listening to a different band from album to album. Thats why I like AFI!

Funnily enough I bought my first A Perfect Circle CD on saturday (Thirteenth Step). I like it enough to want to get their other material.
So far I've just got Emotive. It's a bunch of covers of old protest songs plus two originals. Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums is one of the originals. It's really good. I like that cd a lot. The cover of People are People is really good too.

Eh it makes Imagine sound rather dreary. I sort of interpret it, I guess, as the sad music is now and the lyrics are future, so I like it. But yes, get it. Or IM me inshdosgrownwngs.
And for the emo-core-thinking-dude....judging by the new site and the changes over the last 3 albums, and the article where they said it'd be more of a "cold pop" sound, I'd say they're heading toward post-punk. Cold pop sounds like it'd be similar to Cure Pop, especially when you consider that Davey and Jade love the Cure, Joy Division, etc. and are the primary songwriters. They've got inspiration from that, so it seems safe to assume that they'd have at least a hint of those bands in their new sound. And, as I said, the general direction of the music is heading that way.

Davey had vocal nodes and had surgery and wasn't allowed to talk or sing for quite a while. Once he could finally do that stuff again, they started writing. Then they played at MTV Icon: The Cure (they covered Just Like Heaven) last August (it aired in October in Europe only). Then they went back to writing. Then on May 23 of this year they went into the studio to record the new album. They would have finished recording a month ago, but they decided to add a new song so they're still in the studio. Jade figures they'll have a new single out within a month or two.

I'm not really into AFI, but the songs i've heard are cool. The older stuff and newer stuff are really different.
On the Fat Wreck comp, Short Music for Short People, there's an AFI song called "Hearts Frozen Soil Sod Once More by the Spring of Rape, Despaire, and H" (i'm guessing the title is even longer than windows media player tells me). I really really like this song, is it from one of their albums? If not, which album sounds most like this?

you need to start reading their blogs (http://blog.myspace.com/afi). Jade says new single probably within 2 months I think (which came out to by the end of the year...nothing yet though...so I guess January). Um, album is being pushed back (who'd'a guessed?) because they decided to record a new song. Um, yeah I forget what else.

There were some secret sites as part of the new mystery for the new album. Just like lyrics were hidden last time. This time, they've got a global theme. They had a menu from a vegan diner at weightofwords.com and then Mikey Rhino had some numbers in his myspace that got decoded to letters and they got some other site where the mummy thing was going on. Both sites are gone, now, by the way. And the name Hector was on the menu and then a guy named Hector (board name: invierno) starts posting but the account is way old, so it was in advance. And he keeps giving hints. On the menu was a phone number by the name Charlotte so then people started calling that (the number started with 337, what do you expect?) and they got nothing, then a message, then a different message, and now people that call started getting callbacks with a cryptic message. On the mummy site they decoded what Davey was saying to German numbers. I don't know where it went from there. I just know there've been lots of translating from other languages to continue the hunt.
Smith is Jade's brother. He's a roadie. He's way cool. There are Smith fans. And like, people write fanmail to Smith too. He's also the guy that will sometimes run out from backstage and jump off into the crowd to pull Davey out when he backflips into the pit and then gets mobbed.

Dude, they listen to post-punk all the time. Jade and Davey have Joy Divisian tattoos on them (Jade also has some Cure). Don't you think their musical tastes will be reflected a bit in their music? The kids that like post-punk like STS and will like the next one. Kids that only like oldschool punk and hardcore won't. Kids that like it all will be very campers.

Yes, only 5,000 were pressed (2 pressings of 2500). You can get them on eBay for $30-50. Despair Faction members were able to buy the few they found in a dark corner of the warehouse a few months ago, but those are all gone too now. So, yeah, eBay.

given that my record player needs a needle...no
given that it's a collectible picture-disc...yes...they're usually closer to the $30 end
and the DF'ers that bought them there paid $7, I think. I should have gotten one and sold it on eBay since I paid eBay prices for mine.

Maybe this has been asked, did some orchestra arrangement do AFI songs? If so, what was the name of it?

I really like AFI.
All Hallows EP is awsome even though its only a couple songs. Art of Drowning is awsome too. But Black Sails In The Sunset is my favourite album by them.

The Ya Ya Baby String Quartet covered a bunch of them. It the String Quartet Tribute to AFI. It's awesome, but the tracklisting is very wrong. Oh yeah, I have that too.
The reason I can still remember all of it is that I have it all in my recordnerd...otherwise, I don't think I could name all of it...I had to go look at the list for some of it.

Good stuff. I used to be really into them, i still love them though. And for the poeple that say their sell outs, grow up, the band did. I guarantee that youve gone through many "favorite" bands over the past year, so you think their gonna play the same exact music for 12 years? No, people grow up, mature, change, and so does their sound. And when another label gives you more freedom then before, a bigger budget for more time, better equipment, you take that. And if your fans cant understand that your doing it to better the music, then they werent a true fan in the 1st place.
My favorite 3 albums have to be
1) Black sails..
2)Art of....
3) Sing the sorrow

But you didn't get the gold one!
What songs are on it?

I already have the clear yellow one. The black one is a first-press. And it has the same songs as the AFI EP cd (3½, Over-Exposure, The Hanging Garden, Demonomania)
There are some other rarities I'm thinking about acquiring over the next few days. 2 are AFI, and 2 are ska.
"There are a few tracks that are really aggressive and have — dare I say — pretty heavy hardcore leanings," à la 1997's Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes, Havok said. "There are just a few — by no means is the record weighted in that direction. But there are definitely some hardcore moments on there."
