Stop being stupid.
Ahem. Sar-ca-sm.
good charlotte, people that follow trends.
*cough*badpost*cough*
just because you don't the music doesn't make them posers. if they like all their songs they're not posers. posers are people that like zeppelin because of stairway to heaven and that's the only song they like. or they like metallica because all they're heard was enter sandman. someone who is not a poser likes a lot of there music, likes similar styles/bands, etc.

I'd only call people like that posers if they claim to be big fans of the band. I almost never say "poser" anyway, because the word is mostly used as a form of elitistism(sp?).

Idk... the people that work at my cell phone company are posers... they come up and they're like "you out of minutes" and I'm all "but I just bought minutes" and they say "$1 a day and 25 cents to connect" and I'm like "you guys are posers" and then they start rapping... its quite ridiculous

ok I dont see why everybody is dissing on slipknot, they are probably my favorite band next to SoaD. Now I understand about people wearing slipknot shirts so look "goth", thats just plain retarded. but I have a couple of slipknot shirts that I wear once in a whil e but that shouldnt make me a poser just because I wear there shirts, Hell I have a Pink floyd shirt too that I wear and yes I listen to them. so basically what I'm saying( to all those people who didnt want to read the begginging of my post) is that yes you are a poser if you wear a shirt of a band and you dont even like them but if they are your fav. band it is alright. o yah i almost forgot, Yes punk does suck harcore
even though I am not a fan of slipknot, I almost agreed with you, but then I read the last line and was like "nah"
no genre sucks.

No offence fallenstar, but you have to be one of the worst posters I have ever seen on these boards. You offer nothing new to your own thread, and merely seem to come in to say "That band sucks, they are posers", funnily enough the bands you say this about are the ones that it is "cool to hate". Perhaps you should be looking closer to home for a definition of poser.
No offence of course...

i have some,
one is downloading music(if you don't get why i think that's being a poser, ask me)
two is saying you're a huge fan of a band because you like two songs/buying a shirt for that reason
three is worshipping someone that just died from a band when you never heard of them before. for example a bunch of people here in my city worship dimebag only becaues he died.
four is saying you're part of a specific culture. for example saying you're a metalhead, emo, goth, punk, ect. when you dont know anything about the culture or you think you are cool saying it.
those are my definitions, if you missunderstood something you can ask me. and if you dont get what i said, ask first before saying "..what you just said makes you the real definition of a poser" because you most likely understood something.

You're going to have to clarify. I download music to sample new bands and see if it's worth the nivestment of buying their albums.

In my point of view, posers are:
-People who simply download music, never buy any albums, and yet still claim to love a certain band.
-People who go into Hot Topic and buy a shirt of a band, yet not own any albums from that particular band.
-People who buy the latest album by a band that's been around for many years, but claim to have liked them for the longest time.
-People who go to a concert of a band they've simply heard of off of MTV, but not actually know any of their songs.
well put

what i mean is like, if you download music, thats saying "you recorded this for seven hours, i'm going to take it" as oppose to someone who acutally buys the album, which is saying "you spent nine hours recording this, i appriciate your time and effort, good job"
and also i know people who have itunes just to store their music, not to buy songs or albums, and have programs to download music for free. they dont go on itunes to just hear samples of songs, they just go straight to their download program and hear the song that way. if you still dont get what i mean, i can explain agian if you need me too

No I understand. In most cases, I wouldn't call getting freebie music like that being a poseur. I'd call it either douche-baggery, cheapskate-ness, or ignorant ****-face-ism.
As I said, myself and others download music through Limewire and the like as a way of checking out new artists. I pirated some tracks off of Blind Guardian's NIME and ANATO albums, and bought both because I liked what I heard.

yea i completely understand, i just meant people who do it because they are wayy lazy to just go out to but an album. if you do it just for a week or a little while because you are broke at the moment or something, i can understand
and i completely forget some other definitions i have for being a poser(i'll put it for some genres) the poser part is what posers would say they like to be apart of that culture, as oppose to real bands of that genre:
1. 'poser' metal: slipknot, korn, ect
real metal: Iron Maiden, DragonForce, ect
2. 'poser' punk: good charlotte
real punk: the ramones
3. 'poser' rock: simple plan, uh.. i dont know any other ex. cause i know what real rock is lol.
real rock: ac/dc, the beatles, queen, etc.

Greg (Guitar) is a great guitarist, and his guitar lines fit perfectly with the singing and the basslines, just completing perfected music. They work hard to create their music, and it is extremely well written.
I can play every Mudvayne song ever written and I find them boring and unchallenging, and which one is making the money? It's a ****ed up world...
I don't nessecarilly think Mudvayne are posers, but they ARE a ****ty band.
As far as this whole thing about downloading music, I download music, but mostly because I hate getting a CD of a band i've never heard and finding out that they suck. Like Mortification, for example. I got EnVision EvAngeline thinking they were a good band, and it turned out to be the most atrocious attempt to make metal i've ever heard with maybe the exception of Betrayal.
Sometimes I download music just because I have opressive parents that think they have the right to not allow me to buy music of bands that aren't christian. So in turn, 90% of the black metal I like I only have on my computer and that's all i'll have it on until I get a job this fall...

1. 'poser' metal: slipknot, korn, ect
.
Alrighty then...time for me to rip you a new one. :)
Korn have been here since 1993 (or so). When they first came, they weren't trying to follow the stereotypes of the genre, or trying to fit in. They were ORIGINAL...no other band sounded like them at the time.
Course, after their first few albums, they plummeted off the deep end, but at the time, they were one of the most original bands out there today.
Slipknot...again, they were pretty original at the time. Even before their first widely released album, they were even more original...they experimented a lot more than other bands dared to. The masks? A marketing gimmick...plenty of bands have them. Take a look at black metal...a trademark of black metal today is corpse paint. Does this make the bands poser, just because they decide to wear heavy makeup? No. Is Slipknot poser because they wear masks? No. It may be a bit riduculous for some, but they have their own schtick, and they do it quite well.
Have a nice day. :) And do your research first.

In all fairness, that might be genuine ignorance, perpetrated at least in part by the media. I've seen bands like Green Day described as "punk legends" in magazines that really ought to know better. I'd say elements of being a "poser" only come in when you insist that you're right, ignoring people that actually know what they're talking about, and refusing to listen to people who are actually trying to help you.
ya, i used to think greenday and gc were punk, untill my friend jilly told me its not. and that changed my world forever, now i know that punk is bands like; the exploited, the casualties, and aus rotten. even though i just listen to a little bit of punk

If you like certain bands, no.
However, if you claim these bands are your favorite, and think you're oh so hardcore because of it, or claim they have the most talent and are the best band ever, even though you don't have a song by them to your name, then yes, you are a poser.

I just find Slipknot to be obnoxious garbage with nothing particularly musically interesting. I never really say them as anything groundbreaking or even special to begin with.
Not in relation to the music, but I also think their singer is a pretentious ***.
Anyway, that's just my stance. I feel that the American metal scene has watered down significantly since the explosive surfacing of the death metal scene in the late 80's. There are still good bands here, but they're getting harder and harder to find.

Please open up your mind and do not judge the band just because they had former Creed members in it.
Seriously, Tremorti (sp?) can bust out great solos, and they have great guitar riffs as well. The drums, while they could be better, aren't complete crap, and the singing is heartfelt and emotional.
Sounds like a decent band to me...guess it all depends on your taste.

Not quite inverted pentagrams, but I've seen similar things. Jesus jumping Christ on a crutch, how I hate that.

I don't know i'm into metal and the scene in my area is punk/indie so i rarely meet any metalheads and i don't know what a punk poser's like.
some one that wears all hot topic clothes listens to **** bands like b182 gc slipknot etc etc etc mainstream bands like that always bitching about something and acts like life is hell that is what i think a poser is

A lot of you are mistaking definitions. As stupid as you may think inverted crosses are, if they really are satanists or at least hate christianity, they aren't being posers. If they're doing it to be cool, they are.
