Wow, that's unbelievably stupid.

Most bands don't even make enough to tour. Saying that opening bands don't deserve to make any money becuase they get publicity is complete nonsense.

Not really. The venue makes a good amount of that.

Yea...that's what I was wondering. What's the split. The venue had 4 concession ppl, 2 security, couple guys at the door, not sure how many back stage. 10 people at min/wage for 6 hours...thats about $500 alone. Then there was ads in the paper for 4 weeks. I guess ticketmaster is covered in the service charge. Seems to me a $10 a head show might buy the band a nice meal and not much more.

The cardinal rule is usually this:

Bands who can draw in big crowds make more than enough. Bands with decent fan bases make enough to live off of. Bands that are more underground barely make enough for gas and food.

just a note to RunAmokRampant: The format style I used to write my "Sonnet" is actually inspired from an ee cummings sonnet entitled "next to of course god america i"
where the rhyming scheme is abab cdcd efg efg and there isn't a set 10 syllables per line, and also the use of satire... Anyways. I'll be getting to the voting later. :)

i guess i just thought there was a different meaning to the song, but after this part, the song seemed to turn to a different topic. It had a different texture to it. (if youre following me)


yeh the song is not really ment to be about the poverty and their hard lives, its about the fights itself, they fight for a monopoly on drugs trade in their area.
actually to be really fair, what is there is just a rough idea. I'm touring through belgium and holland at the moment but there was no pen to be found on the bus so i just put it on the thread when i was in an internet cafe so i could go through it and improve bits everytime i managed to find an internet cafe. by the time i remembered to buy a pen and wrote everything down and finished it, the thread was closed and didn't get to put the final piece on.

Hey, I'm another noob (please don't hurt me) that wandered over from the guitar tabs page and thought this looked interesting. I've been making promises to myself to knuckle down and write some lyrics, and now that I have a glorious five months to myself, I might actually be able to do that. A song every week for five months is... well, a hell of a lot.

Just a question; it says that all participants have to vote, otherwise they can't participate in the next round. Does that go for n00bs like myself who weren't in the last round?

This is mainly to addicted_tochaos and anyone else who was a little confused about the line in my piece that mentioned Morella. Morella is a Poe story in which a man marries a woman named Morella who is obsessed with the principles of identity. Soon the main character falls out of love and even becomes afraid of Morella, hoping she will soon pass away. As he hoped, his wife dies in labor of a new baby girl. The main character tries his best to love the new baby girl (which he subconsciously names Morella as well), but as she gets older, he realizes she is more and more like her mother, until he decides that in his mind she is a reincarnated form of the first Morella. This drives him over the edge and he decides to murder the child, but when he opens up the mother's tomb to bury the child, her mother's remains are gone, perhaps stating that the child was indeed a reincarnated form of her mother?
