ok guys
just thought id review my main axe
this is pretty much the top of the range dean edge, although some of the erb's cost more, the bartolini pickup model is only available in 4string, which i was disappointed at, as if a five string version was available id have had that instead
this retails at £500 in the uk, thats from the dean uk dealer bill lewington, i got mine shipped from america to the uk, new, from a music shop in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and after extortionate shipping and taxes it still only came to £400, :thumb: shopping around helps
right, basic specs;
Body; Quilt Maple top on bass wood body
Colour options; Tiger's eye is the only available colour with the bartolini model - it looks stunning
Pickups; 1x Bartolini neck soapbar, 1x Bartolini bridge soapbar
Controls; Volume, blend, 2 band eq (treble and bass)
active controls powered by single 9v battery
Fretboard; Ebony
Inlay; pearloid dots
34" Scale & 1-9/16" Nut
Neck;maple/walnut/bolt on 24 frets
Grover tuners, black hardware
Bassically, it looks stunning, although, i am considering replacing the black hardware with gold harware, the finish is outstanding, i let a friend use it for a gig the other day, 8 complete strangers came up to him and said how nice the bass looked
the bartolini pickups make a great sound, and i dont care what people say, basswood is fine for instruments, the controls can give you such a varied tone, and i find the pickup blend especially useful
the neck is quite a thin profile, which i much prefer to the chunky necks of fender p's and many other basses, it allows you to move so much quicker, stretch further and acheive better sound all round, very comfortable even for those with small hands
the ebony fingerboard is so nice to play, it gives a bright warm tone, and coupled with a quality neck, a good body and a great set of pickups it makes this a great second bass, especially seeing as its good value for money
i wouldnt recommend this to a beginner, as they probably would not appreciate how good this bass is, and a beginner's amp will not do this bass justice, if you play it through a 10w amp with 2 controls, it will not sound its best, it may even be a good way for a professional to downsize theyre gear as it is so versatile, but ideally it is suited to someone whos getiing a 2nd or 3rd bass, where youre not quite at the level of justifying buying the likes of a ritter or a sadowsky.
all in all a great bass
a load of fun
i would certainly recommend it above the other dean edges, but if you have to get an erb, then unfortunately, you miss out on the splendid features of this bass that dean only offers in a 4 string
