Hey this is actually my first post in this forum (im a bass forumite)... anyways

I've been looking for a decent, cheap, portable digital multitrack recorder and i stumbled across the zoom ps-04 and it seemed pretty good. i could use the drum and bass machine alot, as well as the built in effects. and its at a good price. im pretty tempted to buy one

but first, is there anything i shoud know about them? or maybe some other users have them and would like to tell me about their good ro bad experiences with them??

thanks :thumb:

zoom aren't exactly known for reliability & longevity, but I've heard plenty a good thing about that little recorder. Don't use the built in mic of course, and be wary of the fact that it uses memory cards (moaner for more on that)

yes. if you're gonna get it, budget for the biggest flash card it'll take.

i use it for my recordings, pretty decent, except it doesnt have an USB port so the only way you can transfer the recordings onto ur computer is to record it throught line-in. it uses a Smart Media card, not Flash media card, which is a pain in the *** to find and the biggest ive seen available on the market is 128MB, which is only enough to record 5-6 songs. apart from that, its all good

you can transfer smart media onto computer via a smart media reader.

well i have a reader so thats all good.

and stoveismyname, ive heard theres software available for download that allows to you to take the data off the smart media card and convert it into wav and mp3 on your computer.

ive heard the built-in condensor is decent for acoustic guitar and vocals, but we'll see.

thanks guys.

Well it won't be great, but clearly not as bad as I thought. I've experienced similar size condensers and they were high quality (although more ideal for speech than music), but they were all in lavalier (clip-on) form. I don't know if this version being built-in would suffer in quality or not.

it'd be useable, but not great.
