description:

recording = terrible
influences = afi, slayer, metallica

our vocalist only got one take on singing and it is terribly out of time due to bad mixing.... we recorded one by one with 1 mic and its out of time lol...

It was a good song, badly produced, though that is hardly your fault. All the instruments are good.

06-05-2005, 05:08 PM
yes i do suck at mixing lol.... i actually did mix alot of **** to actually make it sound even acceptable for my own ears lol...

we changed one of the riffs... because after looking at slayer - reign of blood.... i noticed how close it actually was.... and the breakdown was changed (that thing was horrific)

you reckon the singing has some potenial?? if he practices it...

It's not bad, but I wouldn't call it great either. The singer has potential, but his voice really isn't mature enough. Get him on the whiskey.

wild turkey should do ey?? lol

yeh we are improving it this week... i hope... i really think a few of the parts lack.. and im not 100% happy with all of them...

good to see the singer has potential... hopefully he wont get hit by a truck so he can get a deeper voice...

we should go into the study in the next few months hopefully.. and make a good version of this song with alot better changes... thanks!

I listened to both songs (into the fire, and black hearts). I think it's pretty good (minus the recording quality). Into the fire was a bit repetetive but otherwise it sounds pretty good. As a suggestion, maybe add some solos or clean parts or something, just to give it a little more spice, if you know what I mean. Thats about all I can think of now. Oh yeah, when mixing try to make it stereo.

I thought it sounds like songs from St. Anger...with solos. the vocals are ok, but like ppl mentioned in the other post, the voice is not mature enough. maybe you should sing naturally for now, or use voice effects, cause this kind of singing may damange your vocal cord permently and you'll b stuffed later even if you dont get hit by a truck. i heard eating chili helps...

Listened to Black Hearts on purevolume. The attitude is awesome even though the recording quality sucks, you can hear the fire in the playing. It's true the vox need a lot of practice but that's okay, it's what music's all about. I couldn't play into the fire from the mp3.au site for some reason. You need to post it on purevolume and get some better recordings done cause you guys could be really cool.

FUBARGNV
06-12-2005, 05:27 AM
stoivenismyname: thanks man... i mite tell my vocalist to try that chilli lol

cockfight champion: thanks a ton man... we are trying hard to get some money together to try and get in a studio... but we are unsure on whether we want to wait for some better songs... becuase this being our 1st and 2nd songs we are improving every song... and i reckon we can keep improving...

thanks! ANY MORE constructive CRIT. very well apprecated!!!!!!!

imo its not worth it to record in a studio unless u can do it for free. get a multi-track recorder or something plug the instruments in and record track by track, you can get them from US for pretty cheap i think, and the quality is good.

Cannonball Jake
06-12-2005, 04:21 PM
Yeah hope you can get some better recordings done, have you tried any of the recording programs on computer or even a cheap 4-track? It's a lot of messing around compared to studio and you might have to invest in a mixer if you don't have one but if you check the Jam Session threads you should be able to hunt out some easy to use programs and get some decent demos done. Obviously there's a bit to learn but it's way cheaper than studio time and you don't have the pressure of the clock ticking.

Anyway I liked Black Hearts, especially the way the starting section is put together and the aggression is really good. I won't crit the singing coz it's all been said, he just needs to practice and should improve heaps.

I think you guys should try to put more melody into the singing (kinda like Dave mustaine - he's got that raspy almost voice but he sings with melody too).

This new song is a lot better than the old one... I know you guys like the get reviewed and I would to... But In my honest opinion, you guys need to work on the songs more... Most of the time when my band makes a song, after soo many practices we kinda change small parts of it, that make it just sound so much better... That and we are all on time with eachother... Sometimes the guitar would get off beat with the drums... And it may just be the recording quality. But some parts of the song just sound too "cluttered" I should say.

Besides that, compared to the last time I listened to you guys, you have gotten better.

06-13-2005, 02:28 AM
You asked me in my thread if i could do a rewiev, and of course i will.
I am listening to Black Hearts now, and the first ting i notice is your guitar sound, you should try to turn down the distortion a little bit, and the guitar would sound better. You sound pretty tight for a 14 year old band, and thats good! Maybe you should work a little bit with the arrangement of the song, but overall this was pretty good.. if you work with the vocals and guitar sound and record this with good quality it will be pretty good! Keep on rocking guys!

BROLY238:

we have changed a few parts of that song... ill list most of them if i can lol

1. changed the semi tone clashed to start outro to the cymbal chokes at the start of the first chorus

2. we changed the heavy first riff due to it sounding alot like slayer reign in blood.. and it sounds alot better

3. the breakdown was completely changed

4. a new entry to the solo was made, and the solo now has an actual format lol

5. double bass on drums is used.. although u kinda cant hear it

6. playing has gotten alot tighter...

thanks for the comments man! we are definately taking all this in as constructive criticism... we will try to keep improving so thank you! and hopefully for our next song you can review us again :)

ROBIN_OGN: thanks man... the distortion is will be turned down... its a line 6 uber metal pedal which is top of line and an ibanez rg 750 or seomthing.. both good stuff... we turned it up to loud and then when i tried to normalize it created buzzing etc.. we will definately learn from these mistakes!

yeh its a bit of a wierd song.. but i kinda like that in a way! ;) ill remember this for next time...

we will definately we working on the vocals... he is improving and he has never sung before and his definately finding the way to sing the song the best.. more practice will bring this!!!!!!

THANKS EVERYONE WHO REPLIED...

Just listened. I think it definately has potential, but as was already said and you said yourself, it was a bit out of time. But that would be due to producing and stuff. I don't know if it was just my computer but I could hardly hear any vocals at all... Maybe I'm just broken :confuse: but yeah, definate potential. Good work.

_bombsh3ll_
06-13-2005, 08:03 AM
thanks for the review..

yes! definately out of time... im not sure about the not hearing the vocals.. i thought they were the loudest of the instruments lol...

thanks... we changed alot of bits and will definately update this thread with a better version id say!

\m/RULE OF BLACK HEARTS BURNING\m/

Speedhorn666
06-15-2005, 06:40 AM
I like the stoppy-starty bits, maybe add a little flare to the drumming, a few fills here and there maybe. Some good riffs. It works but I also think it'd be better faster. It's lacking that noddability with that tempo I reckon. Anyways good work overall.

_bombsh3ll_
06-15-2005, 05:13 PM
yeh will do... my drumming on that song has definately improved... we know play to the vocals on p.a so its alot easier to put in fills when you know where the words are...

thanks... im guessing you listenened to "into the fire?"

try out "black hearts if you have time ;)"

bombshell...your band...is THE biggest piece of **** i have ever heard. that doesn't sound like anything. i think i heard 2 "notes" in the whole thing. it sounds as if you've literally had a vigorous male love session on top of a pile of instruments. stop playing, stop making cd's, and you might as well just stop living.

_bombsh3ll_
06-16-2005, 02:57 AM
hahaha... i laugh at you... because really... you are some little nerd who sits and home and probably plays his saxophone and is ****...

and becuase of this he gets enjoyment out of making other people look ****... you suck man, every post you have made has been ****ing mean ****...

you need to get a life man... what is your problem??

show us your band... and if you rock... ill take in what you said...

for the record... how do you know its the biggest **** in the world if you could hear what was playing??

obviously you are a faggot, a nerd, ugly bitch and a deaf cunt...

get a life....

i listened to black hearts, to be honest i wouldnt blame the mic situation. u guys are only 14 so its expected that your technical ability is not up to scratch. overall the songwriting has potential and i wouldnt give up quite yet but i also wouldnt go chasing that record contract until you can all play in time with each other. trust me its important you sound great live first before you start spending a ****load on recording.

Heyhey.

Well I listened to...Black Heart (I think that was the name, just closed it so I can't be sure!).

There are a few issues with it, but I think some of that is just down to age and how long you've been playing so I won't make too much of a thing of it. It's mainly just timing and phrasing (applies to everyone in the band). Once you work on that, everything else will fall into place.

Also, I'd say that you sound like alot of other 14+ year old bands doing "metal" - so ya know, there's lots of minor/chromatic stuff going on. So it sounds...unhappy ;) which is in the right direction I guess but ya know, don't be afraid to just do your own thing. Do some covers, just amongst yourselves and really take em apart, see what makes em sound the way they do. Then take what you get from that and use it to make something that is a sound of your own.

You have 3 pages of reviews.....Do you need anymore?

Well, props for getting a band together and everything. But if you want people on the forum to take you seriously don't advertise this thread if everyone elses thread. The stuffs not bad for a group of 14 year olds, the guitar is pretty original, but sometimes seems a bit out of time (could be due to the recording), but not to bad.

The guitars seem to be playing the same thing most of the time, just one day, have your two guitarists sit down and work on playing different things at the same time, try to make some harmonies possibly, and it'll be impressive for 14 year olds.
