Our band has no singer, only because we have no sound system. We need a microphone setup, but I'm not exactly sure what to get. I'm thinking maybe a condensor mic for vocals, a powered mixer, a PA, and maybe another condensor mic for acoustic guitar.
What would you reccomend? This is basically only for practice, so it doesn't have to be top of the line.

I would go with one of the Package PA Systems (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=live/s=packaged/content/cb/index). Depending on what kind of quality you want, there is cheaper ones and more expensive ones. Most of them have a powered mixer in the setup.
As far as the mics, I would not get a condensor for vocals. Get a dynamic(SM58) (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/270101/). For the acoustic, I would just get a pickup for it!(For Example (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/307112/)) :D

main points:
--> Get a powered mixer and one or two passive speakers. The best way would be in a package, like isojoe said. The advantage of a powered mixer over powered speakers is you can power wat you want with it, and can upgrade and add speakers at any time.
--> If it's just for practice, don't get condensers. Get a pickup for the acoustic as said and get a dynamic for vocals.

Why is it your job to provide a singer with equipment? You don't really even need a PA or anything. Just get a mic and a small amp. This will do unless your a big band but since you have no singer im guessing your not. I've never been in a band that uses a PA for practise and it always seemed fine.

My band just got a Kustom packaged system with 3 mic packages as well. works great. though we needed to upgrade the speakers so that we could turn the PA up more to hear the vocals without blowing our speakers.
our current speakers can handle over twice what our mixer puts out haha

123.
A good singer will most likely already have a small amp and a mic too.

i would think the singer should at least have a mic and small amp.
you could hire a practice room. i dont know about where you are but there are some here, they come with a pa and cost about $10AUD an hour.
just an idea.

We aren't looking for a singer, the three of us are going to be singing. Does anyone know if the Kustom PA/Powered Mixer combos are good? Otherwise, I might get the $250 Behringer powered mixer, an SM58, and find a used PA cab somewhere.

Yes, I like them a lot. I own this (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/630542/) one. It's a decent PA for a decent price. I actually got it for only $370.00 at Woodwind and Brasswind when they had a deal on it. I use it in combination with 3 powered monitors and a powered sub.

"Our band has no singer, only because we have no sound system."
this is basically like a guitarist not having his own guitar and his/her own guitar amplifier. you wouldn't expect it from a guitarist, so why is a vocalist so different?

The vocal chords are the instrument, so it's like a guitarist not having his amplifier. Actually its not a fair analogy because a vocalist can practice fine without any amplification while a guitarist will need an amp to practice. Difference between acoustic and electric :thumb: And PA systems are an expensive commitment for an average vocalist.. having said that I would expect a vocalist to have their own mic and some foprm of amplification.
